Audio recording question...

I've found an excellent music clip I want to use for "The Dreden War" plugin, but I have no idea how to record it into my computer! I know my G3 is enabled to do just that, but what software do I need, and how do I do it? Any advice and answers would be greatly appreciated!

Is it from a CD or something? SoundApp might be able to do it, hold on while I look for the URL for its site.

What's the music clip from? A CD? A Video? An Audio Tape?

It doesn't look like SoundApp has the ability to make sound files off of CDs. But thats just from looking over its menu.

It can, however, convert MP3s to system sound files. although you'll need to adjust it's sample rate. I use (url="http://"http://www.riccisoft.com/soundeffects/")SoundEffects(/url) for this. Sound app can do it to, but you get extras with soundeffects. and you can directly copy/paste it into resedit (not that thats an issue)

He'll have to rip the tracks using iTunes or something. That is, if it is a CD he's trying to get the music from. I guess we'll just have to play around in this topic by ourselves until Captain Skyblade comes back to check it.

How about iTunes. I think that can rip music from CDs.

If it's off a CD, use either Toast (if you have it) or Quicktime. That's right! With Quicktime 3 or later, just go into the Movie Player, choose "Import..." and select the track you want! You can then Export it to a variety of formats. I'm not sure if you can copy and paste into EVO from Qtime, use (url="http://"http://www.riccisoft.com/soundeffects/")SoundEffects(/url) for this (after exporting to AIFF). Note to everyone: SoundEffects is the single most useful sound tool. EVER. If you don't have it, get it. If all else fails, here's a sure fire way to get any sound that can play through your computer's speakers into your own SoundEffects file (which you can then copy and paste into ResEdit for use with EVO) - simply take an 1/8th inch stero cord (the kind of plug you plug into the mic or speaker jack, only this is a cord with a jack on both ends) and plug one end into the mic plug, one into the speaker plug. Fire up SoundEffects, choose record, hit the record button, start playing whatever you want, and bing! There you have it. Well, hope I didn't completely confunse anyone there.

To answer all your questions, I need to rip 27 seconds of music off a compact disk. I'll look into trying out some of these programs you all have talked about. Thanks for the help so far! I'll post here again if I have anymore problems...

Hey Meowx, I tried what you said by using QuickTime. I think I have version 3, but I can't seem to find the "import" option. Can you tell me where to find it? If it doesn't work out, I'll try using Toast. Thanks!

There's another way with Quicktime.
Open the track you wanted. Then click on saves as or export (I'm not sure)
Then make it self containing.
There ya go...
A 3 minute file would be (I'm guessing) around 30 MB
I always convert it to mp3 and then edit it, then convert it to system sound (with SoundApp), open it with Res Edit and put it in my plug.
🙂

You probably need Quicktime Pro. I think. And actually, try just using the "open" command, like BB said. That should work, too.

Do import movie, it should work. Also QT Pro is a must buy. I mean it is really nice, with its edit movies/sounds, etc features. Plus it has nice, easy export features. And really, with all the stuff you and your family has (I am basing this on your posts and references to $1,000 keyboards, ISDN, cool computers, ect.), it seems like you need it.
