Calculating velocities

I would love to continue the public builds... I felt that they were a great way to test feature sets and bug test code at the same time. Most companies have rather large internal SW development teams that provide essentially the same function that you guys were doing for me. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your position) it is no longer my place to offer public builds anymore. The project has become a great deal more serious... So although there are no more public builds, be assured that progress is being made at a very aggresive pace.

------------------

Glad to hear it's going well. If you aren't going to have any more public builds, could you at least tell the new features you put in?

BTW: When are you planning on talking with ASW about this? or have you already or are you not going to?

Could you be more specific on the situation?(Could you elaborate??)

In an Einsteinian system, it is much the same at small speeds, but as you get close to the speed of light, you're mass increases thus making it harder to accelerate. although, any force in a frictionless enviroment can move any amount of mass so you do still accelerate just not as fast...

Ah, I see the issue. I did not adequately explain myself. What I meant by Einsteinian propulsion system was something that does not directly impart acceleration to the ship, but directly imparts motion. Such would be a system utilizing, for example, overlapping warp fields, or something that would move the universe relative to your ship. Now read my comments in that light.

Not really, I have to be quite careful about what I say... Sorry.

Almost sounds like you already talked about this project with Ambrosia?!? Just speculation, but if that's the case, then EV:MP is seriously possible, or you just quit work and won't tell us. Sorry for the criticism.

I thought he said something about that like 'it doen't use EV's graphics'. Do you think that could me a different game apart from EV. That could mean that he's working with a different place beside Ambrosia.....

When are you going to have your original site up again??
not that it will matter much... 😛

I'm just mad because I found this board the day after kberg took down his site and I got all excited reading about all the new features in what sounded like was turning into a great game, and now I can't try it out! And we don't even get to read anything new about it any more...

Congratulations and good luck. I'm looking forward to it. I guess the legal question is resolved?

By the way, are you taking suggestions? I realize this is a thread concerned with technical issues and programming techniques, but I'll add a request for a feature anyway. Allow people to use their own spins for their ships in multiplayer. I'm not suggesting that people be able to edit the game itself, only their personal graphic. The more people can personalize their experience with the game, the longer they'll stay with it.

Bubbles

I'd look like a pretty big idiot if I gave up now, wouldn't I... 😉

Yes, by all means keep the feature requests coming. I'll seriously consider everything posted here.

About having custom spins, won't work... It would conflict with other (very COOL!!) already implemented features. Ships will be very customisable though.

------------------

You ARE going to keep us posted about the progress, right?

I'm not sure how it's going anymore and i can't grasp the idea so i can't think
of any new ideas. Couldn't just tell us a little about what it's going to be like??

With custom ship colors, didn't you say once that the ships were going to be vectors (I think), and that there would be 2 or 3 colors that could be chaged infinitely to the player's choice? If you didn't, I'm saying it now.

Sorry for suggesting you gave up or something, just trying to provoke at least some responce from the stone wall currently guarding your project.

Also, if anyone wishes to recieve a copy of the last public build (build 12, very nice), e-mail me, and I'll send you one. If kberg so wishes, I will stop offering this, but there are many people who I know would want a copy of this (very outdated, missing new, cool features (as you say)) build.

I haven't got any problems with you distributing old builds... If it helps to gather support for the eventual release date (or even just for beta tests) then even better! 😉

I'll play around with the custom colors and see what I can do. I'm already getting a bit tight in the performance area right now. I've been optimising things like crazy over the past couple of days and it's gotten a lot better, but if tinting sprites causes little to no overhead then I'll include it.

How many builds do you have now? last time i heard you had up to build 16(which was not a public build-none after 12 i believe).

Well, here's two feature requests for you!

1. Make it cross-platform/OS. (Is this even possible...?)

2. Add a "match speed" button and/or an "Orbit" button.

Also: You're going to inform us of when a beta (or maybe another alpha?) is going to be released, are you not?

Yup, I'll post here as soon as I can release anything public again... Might take a while though.

Cross Platform.. Nope. A LOT of the code is mac only. Unfortunately we are dealing with a game here, and two major things that ANSI C++ doesn't supply are graphics and sound (and networking)... It's because of this that cross platform game developement is such a *****. So, my position has to be the same as Ambrosia's. I'd have to pick which platform to develop for, and since I prefer the mac I picked it (and since I've already completed so much, I'm not going to change...)

------------------

Well, going by my laws of motion, the second method would be correct, as when in a frictionless, balanced force situation such as when in space, an object continues to accellerate when an unbalanced force applies, and will remain at a constant speed until a force in the opposite direction is applied.

This would also bring a problem to the EV style ships having a maximum (terminal) velocity, as in a balanced force situation, the ship would continue to accelerate when the engines were being fired ( the up arrow being pressed).

Newton.
