I've been working on several plugs for a while now. So far, the only user-friendly program I could get my hands on was EV-Edit. Although it's probably the easiest to use, it's a killer app(as in 'It destroys my plugs'). Now, I know I should be using resedit, but the program just doesn't seem to be nearly as good as what I get in EV-Edit (even though its a bit of poison).
Is there any other resource editor out there that I could use? Or maybe an editor for just EVO? PLEASE! ANYTHING!
P.S. Are we all in the east coast when I see "Last Post: 2:30 A.M"?
Sincerely, Zeta

The problem is that there is no editor specifically for EVO. EV-Edit was designed (as the name suggests) for EV only, which is partly why it trashes EVO plugs so regularly. There is another editor, Schmelta-V, which is supposed to be more stable (despite, again, being an EV app), but I think it only edits missions - I could be wrong there though. All in all, ResEdit is the only stable resource editor suitable for use with all aspects of EVO plugs ATM.
On the dim and distant horizon though, Pipeline is working on an EVO app called misnEdit (or similar) which should be stable and user-friendly.

Well, resourcer is a $200 resource editor, but I see nothing better than ResEdit besides that it aparently has better template capabilities. You can use Schmelta-V with EVO plugs, using a "special" EV Data file that you can find at my EVO site (basicly an EV Data file w/EVO data). EEEV or something like that was never completed, but if you know C, you can download the source and mess around with it.

Mathemaesthetics main selling point for Resourcerer is that it is up-to-date, works as a proper Mac app, and uses the correct toolbox calls for accessing resources. ResEdit doesn't.
Heck, even Apple uses Resourcerer as opposed to ResEdit!
MďssionEdit isn't that far away; I've had some really good runs with my most recent feature-test builds.

Where would I find the source?
Is EVO simple enough to write an editor for in C++ or C?
Why would it cost 200$? Where could I find it?
P.S. Thanks for the tip, I'm still a bit lost though.

Untrue, EV-Edit trashes EV plug-ins just as thoroughly. Until two years ago, EV-Edit was in a developer's arsenal exclusivly for its Map editing abilities, which sucked in their own right about as much as the rest of the program but had the benefit of being the only one out there. Until, that is, the semi-diety named Pontus saved us all with his Developer's Map.
Side note: Am I the only one who has been royally screwed over with some odd board update? The link from ev.com no longer works, I can't acess the webpage with only the EV topics on it, the frames REALLY piss me off, and worst of all, I can't see green buttons for new posts anymore or have the browser remember my username and password (even though I've got that set in the UBB prefs, and have javascript turned on). Goddammit, how do I fix this stuff?

Oh? I never heard of Pontus' Developer's Map. I looked on the EVO site but couldn't find it. Where do I go to download it?
BTW, I know this has most likely been covered before but...
How do I get a screen shot of EVO? Cmd-shiftt-3 doesn't seem to work.while playing.

Get Snapz Pro 2.

You guys have to try out my templates, EVO Annotated Templates. They use advantage of a lot of Resorcerer's features. They're annotated so you don't need the Bible (EV or otherwise), and they make it pretty darn easy if you're good at keeping track of resources. (They're available at the Lightning Bolt web site.)

I checked out the Resourcer web page. THOSE GUYS ARE NUTS! (synonims: loco, ludicrous, stupid, idiot, zip intelligence).
Ok. Ok. So it's a much expanded type of Resedit out there, Better than anything else I've seen. But 265 DOLLARS!!!?!!!
Can't I just go to some garage sale and pick a copy up? Isn't (by now) six to eight years old so that I can just call in "cheapo.com" and say 'Hey. Got another one of those for you closeout 4.00$?'
I really don't wont to step on anybody's toes or hurt their feelings. It's just that, I really don't have that kind of money (as if anybody did).
Are there any freebies?
bah, resourcerer is a must for EV plugin authoring
With the ambrosia templates it works with almost EV-edit like editing interface, nice popup menus etc, with builtin help.
but then, not everyone can afford, just use rez (a MPW resource compiler) if you like a challenge, eg:
resource dësc 128 { dwrd "my description ;)" }

Go here (url="http://"http://blackholes.virtualave.net/utils/")http://blackholes.vi...lave.net/utils/(/url)
There are some other goodies by Pontus there also; 'Formula Calc' is extremely useful.

For editing Flags I suggest you download Flagmaker from (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/Slargate/7044/index.htm")Zarquon's Site(/url). It's a utility which allows you to compose EV & EVO Flags without having to handle the EV Bible.

One other problem (and I'm sure you're all laughing at me for this).
I couldn't find out how in the world to use ResEdit (or resourcer (I have the demo :))) to edit the files for ev plugs. I don't see the templates. I don't see the "setVal" or any of that stuff for the EVO plugs with the Resouce editors. I simply get the code (nothing as complex as programming code), just simple resource code. I just can't seem to edit the plug-ins as easily as I did with EV. That's probably the main reason why I started using EVO-Edit, even though it crashes.
If it helps, I switch from using a Performa 475 to the faster models. But most of it is done on the 68040.
P.S. They change the subtitles to the banners! (the grammar was wrong before).

The templates are provided with the EV/EVO Bibles. You must either open the template resource before you open a plug file you want to work on, or copy the template into the file you want to work on, or copy the templates into your editor's preferences.
There is an excellent goude to using ResEdit for editing EV/EVO plugs in the EV archives: the "Resedit Beginners' Guide"
I used EV-Edit until I figured ResEdit out enough to use it. Now I just use EV Edit for ships & weapons & the like since I don't have to keep checking back with the EVO bible.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere how I know what the-heck the ID number for a spďn resource that I intend to use with a ship or weapon should be. These guides tell you everything EXCEPT what ID # to make a spďn.
That's not entirely true of course, they tell you how to figure certain select ones, but never the ones you need to know.
Anyway I use EV-Edit for ships & weapons so I can get the spďn in and working, then I go into it with ResEdit and fix all the pict IDs.
I also can't figure out how to do the spöb flags.

Well, the EV/EVO Bibles tell you in general terms how to get 'spin' numbers, and give the ranges. And of course ship spins are no problem, they use the same ID number as the ship resource. For more detailed info, 'EV Objects Formulas' from DYNA Systemes gives you formulas for calculating ID#s for all resources. And of course Pontus Ilbring's 'EV Formula Calc' wil do the calculations for you.

Not true of the tools mentioned above.
