ok i've made my most killer graphic ( (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Bridge/6896")http://www.geocities...are/Bridge/6896(/url) ) and i put it in my plug-in, but when it ev loads up it looks like cow dung... i've trade changing it to 256 colors, and it changes drastically, but not much better...anyone know how to fix this?
btw. that graphic isn't finished yet, i'm going to add a few more ships to it, a space station, and a moon.
ps. tell me what you think of the graphic
thanks

Looks good, theres different techniques for changing pictures from millions to 256 colors, such as dithering, and things like that, try them all to find the best one.

Well, your website doesn't show any startup-graphics but the other picts are nice (I just don't like the golden series very much).
OK, your question was about the startup-splash-screen, right? IIRC this pict uses a special clut (color-resource). So you have to change the colors in the clut, or use the special colors for your pict. I think a few programs can import cluts (Photoshop, GraphicConverter?).
(I guess you already know that EV only displays 8 bit colors.)

oops, wrong addy for the pic (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Bridge/6896/universe.jpg")http://www.geocities...96/universe.jpg(/url)
could someone maybe download the pic, change it to whatever and then send it to me to where it would work? thanks.
Hmmm, nice picture but due to the smooth colors it's difficult to make it look good in 8 bit.
I tried to change the colors, but it's not much better. I recommend to re-render the whole pict and try to get more contrasts. What about less reflectivity and a smaller korona of the sun? The planet looks good with full colors, but for 8 bit it's better to choose some colors which aren't "blue" and "really_close_to_blue".

I had the same problem a while back, and it does involve CLUT resources. Someone (I forgot their name, whoever it was, thanx) pointed me to download.com for a freeware program called "Pict2Clut" Point it to the pict, and it spits out a resedit-pastable CLUT resource.
Yes, Pict2Clut is very useful for this sort of thing. I almost went insane trying to prepare the startup pict for Secession 1.5 (now in alpha testing, plugplugplug!) before I found the nifty little utility. Once you have the pict and the CLUT, the rest is trivial. Go for it!
