The number of the day is...

...infinity!

That's how many bastard Zidaras you're expected to kill in order to take over Zidagar, because apparently that's the best way to make planet domination in this game as unenjoyable as humanly possible. Seriously though, does anyone have a list of planetary defense forces so I know what places to avoid? I'm thinking of Zidagar, Tumni, Council Station and Earth in particular.

I won't give you a list, but I can give you some general rules of thumb. Here goes:

  • Don't dominate any capital worlds.

  • Don't dominate any homeworlds.

  • Don't dominate Council Station.

  • Don't dominate any planet in a system with more than 8 ships on average.

  • Don't dominate any planet in a system with more than 4 military ships average.

  • Don't dominate pirate worlds.

  • Don't dominate Voinian worlds. (except Outpost Topel)

  • Don't dominate any planets in the same system as a capital world/homeworld.

  • Don't dominate any planet you go to more than once in a mission string.

That should about cover it. If a planet makes it through that checklist, you should be safe to attempt domination. Or you could ignore most of the list and just not dominate capital worlds and homeworlds, nor planets in the same system. Those are really the tough ones you should avoid.

That's funny because I was able to breeze through the entire Azdgari empire without so much as a challenge, including the homeworld. You'd think that they would bother to use their warships to actually defend one of their territories, but instead they just those weakling fighters.

Besides, my main strategy is to fly around in a Crescent Fighter while my escorts mow down the enemies, so I doubt anything the Voinians use would be much of a problem.

EDIT: Ended up capturing The Rock (Renegade base) today... took a rough count, I believe there was about 275 ships before they finally surrendered. You'd think with that kind of army they could take over half of the Crescent.

Hehe, those Azdgari fighters are pretty crazy. It's a wonder they're able to hold any territory at all.

If you’re playing the Nova port, take the data files and run them through ConText parsing spöb resources. Open in a spreadsheet and check the column for DefCount. If you’re playing the original EVO, best bet is probably to run the data through SpacePort then ConText, but I expect the results should be the same.

Anyway, Council Station is the hardest, with 2275 Crescent Warships. Zidagar has 720 ships, The Rock has 400, and Earth has 210.

There’s only two ways I know of to dominate Council Station in any kind of reasonable timeframe. And I believe only one of them would be effective in the Nova port.

Method 1: Get a fleet consisting of one Enhanced Arada (for yourself) and 6 Voinian Dreadnoughts (for escorts). Also obtain for yourself 1 Plasma Siphon, 2 Fuel Scoops, 2 External Fuel Tanks, and 1 UE Cloaking Device. Demand tribute, then cloak. Anytime you get low on fuel go board a disabled Voinian Interceptor and steal its fuel. When there are none, land on Gadzair. Also land on Gadzair occasionally anyway, because your Dreadnoughts will sustain damage from their own Heavy Rocket explosions, and may eventually die if you don’t land.

Method 2: Get whatever you want, preferably with a lot of weapon space. Get 8 Defense Pod Launchers and as many Defense Pods as you can carry. Sit on top of Council Station and fire one salvo. Demand tribute. If the ships that launch don’t die instantly, fire another salvo. When the first wave of 5 Crescent Warships finishes exploding, land on Gadzair. Repeat.
