Absolute Rubbish

What a load of tosh EV Overide is. After playing EV for a couple of months I can't believe EV Overide. I find it really slow & boring. Taking only a couple of hours to try it out, when some bloody parrot come and steals 75000 off me warning me to register. I personally wouldn't pay 20 cents for this game. Its off my computer.

One pissed off Limey.

Get over it. Nova's worse, you can't even plunder ships.

That's amusing, Martin, because I've had EVO for more than four times the allowed preregistration time (not counting the fact that I have a fresh copy on another comp), and I still think it's great.

Maybe it's about time I spent the money and registered it?

If I weren't so cheap, I'd say it's well worth it.

btw, how do I quote a message from a previous post, like you did, tehgreen?
and come back to the bar for a sec.

It's the little "Reply" button above each post.

And I did.

That just too bad. Personally I would have paid trice the amount.

If all the world's a stage, why'd I get the part of the psycho?

Okay, first of all, EVO is my favourite of the three EV titles. The variety, the sheer alienesque qualities and the reasonably well thought out weapons and great fun and varied mission strings would be the main reasons ... along with the balance between reading and fighting, which just got turfed completely with Nova, which was more a novel than a game.

Anyway, all this complaining about losing money to a parrot: if you don't mind going back to the last planet you took off from, just force quit (cmd-opt-esc) the game when the dialog comes up telling you you've been done over! The pilot file doesn't save until you take off, and that dialog comes before you take off! If your only problem is the registration type copy protection, then you have no problem!

You could just buy EV:N for $30 and get the EV:C/O plugs for free. Keep in mind that $20 or $30 is half of what most games retail for.

so did I. 🙂

actually the simplist thing to do is make a plug that has three missions, one for 10000, one for 100000, and one for a million that have you take off and land. Make them availible everywhere and then when hector robs you you can get your money back, plus a little bit more. 😉

of course, then you are tempted to cheat when you see that really sweet Creasant Warship. 🙂

Martinfl, Ok, you didn't like the game. It is made quite clear to you that if you don't like it you can delete if from your harddrive happily. But you didn't need to proclaim it here of all places!

Cmon people, the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=20&SUBMIT;=Go")Chronicles(/url) are worth looking at.
I love Frigates, as is easily seen:(url="http://"http://www.dabie.k-ow.net/~glasskids/EV_Frigates_page.html")EV Frigates(/url).

Ok. A mixed bag of opinions, I expected as much. $20 or $30's is not really the issue. What I found dislikeable about the game was the poor shipyards, the lousy outfitters, the sound of the guns, to me they sounded awful, unlike the solid sound of a Rebel Cruiser say. The story line as far as I could make out was to send me into a area with a small craft which I couldn't protect with good armour plating of any discription and totally underarmed to deliver a package running a blockade. Maybe I should give it another try, maybe I will. But, I do think one has the right to voice an opinion on the boards no matter what the the subject matter might be as long as it is related to the Game. Surely.

Thanks for your input

Martin

Admit it, that first post was alot ruder than your last.

EVO is hard to get into at times, but once you do there are more major strings than in nova, albeit shorter. Most of them offer new technology. I bet you havent discovered the strands yet. 😉

Also, the humans do not have many ships, at least not availible to civilians. On knox you can find the freight courier which is a good mixture of freighter and warship. On any independant planet with a shipyard you can find the helian, which is an exelant ship in my opion. It is cheap, and has room for plenty of upgrades including a pair of turrets. It can also do most any cargo mission. If you land on a renegade planet you can get a Turncoat Light Frigate, which is a good choice as a first warship. Then, if you explore out of human space the shipyard will begin to look alot more promising. 😉

I agree that some weapon sounds are horrible, but I can get over it. And no game is 100% perfect.

Once you start the UE string you can get access to the UE fighter after the second mission which is fairly easy. Farther along you can get a UE destroyer, which is probably the best warship you can get early on. Doing the voinian string offers you Voinian cruisers and Frigates, don't do it, they're horrible. Deep into voinian space you can find the Emalgha. Don't buy their ships though.

There are more ships availible from missions, but I won't say anything. Exept this, there are twice as many ships in EVO as in EVC.

Rude. Not rude. Blunt and to the point is how I would have put it. 50 years of calling a spade a spade has seen to that. At this time I don't share the same passion for the game that other players do. Having said that your views were interesting, I did reach a certain level with the game. I finished up with 360K in credits with a fighter ship that was allowed because of its large cargo hold also. But, I couldn't arm it very well, which you have explained, Earth being poor and all.

I venture out into space upgrading the map where I could, but found nothng of interest except the shortage of fuel problem, thank god for the ramscope. Then the parrot affair did it for me. It was then that I thought this is second rate to EVC.

The copy of EVO that I have came on the CD that came with registration for EVC. I notice that there is another upgrade available to 1.8 I think, am I missing something with the 1.7 version. Game speed settings, perhaps

I will leave it there for now. I must complete EVC, just Luna, Earth an the Alfa Starbase to overcome. Then I will look at EVO again

------------------

As for the game version, EVO only ever got up to 1.0.2. EV: Nova is currently at 1.0.8 but that doesn't apply here. You should be able to download EVO 1.0.2 from Ambrosia reasonably easily - it's less than 10MB.

Anyway, yeah it always was a bit of a gamble trying to explore further out in EVO the first time, having no idea what was out there, and which way to go to get to it. But when you get far enough out you'll find it is well worth it - you're concerns about ships and lack of armaments should be addressed.

Actually come to think about it, a lot of the game would be hard to get to if you didn't ever go a certain way....
