I can't find the last Paaran station mission either, and I have been all over the place. OTher than that, EVN: override is playing well.
Never mind, realised I have to do a different mission. Now I have a question about combat ratings, I was looking at some upcoming missions, and wondering about my combat rating. I need either an above average, or a compatent rating. My question is, is "fair" above, or below the ratings I need?
I ask in this thread, because if I do have the correct combat ratings, then the port deffinetly has some bugs to be worked out with the mission system. If fair is below "above average" or compatent ratings" then the port is still playing perfactly.

How are people faring with the EVN port?
It takes a quick second to get used to the new ship stats as reported in ship info (speed x2, shields and armor x10), but it behaves relatively the same. No more lame monty pythoning with the same weaponry as your opponent, though you can still attempt this if your weapons are longer range. I'm currently piloting a cargo transporter leading an escort of freighters in attempts to raise money for a nicer ship.
Looks good so far.... ----------------------------
The people who worked on it have done a great job, however it needs a little more fine tuning.
It's much easier to play than the original EVO on Mac OS 8 or 9 ... eg for the first time ever, I've been able to do the 'Miser's Run' and the 'Leaves Run' in a fairly standard shuttle.
The ported game is a LOT slower in OS 10.2.6 or 9.2.2 when compared to the original EVO 1.0.2 when run on the same computer using Mac OS 9.2.2.
The weapons don't fire as fast or as far as they should, and the needles can be avoided and outrun in a standard shuttle. The Blaze cannon is supposed to have one of the fastest firing rates, yet it seems to fire at the same rate as the Phase cannon. The needles need to be much faster and a lot more accurate. They are supposed to be a deadly and feared Renegade weapon, as in the original version.
Come on guys, make it even more challenging than the original EVO Override 1.0.2.
Show the new PC users how great a game it really is!

You're missing one important thing here: EV Override, unlike EV Nova, does not automatically scale itself to the speed of your computer, and computers have gotten a ~lot~ faster since it was released. Therefore, when you play EV Override (or the original Escape Velocity) on a modern machine (such as one capable of running Mac OS X), you're playing it ~way~ faster than it was originally intended to be played. The ports, on the other hand, use EV Nova's automatic scaling to always play at the intended speeds.

Well, personally, I've never before played EVO as fast as this port plays it. Okay, this may have something to do with the fact that I've only ever played it on an LCIII and under emulation on a PIII 450MHz, but either way, I find the extra speed now to be a bit of a pain. Battles are over far quicker and are not so fulfilling, it seems - in fact this was one of the things that made EV Nova very hard to enjoy.. you just don't get much time fighting!
Anyway, I've also noticed that some of the secondary weapons don't function quite as they should, and that there are no deliveries available to places that have the potential to change, i.e. New Calcutta, Paaren, Verril Prime, and for the FE missions, only those to Outpost Alpha are available. I assume those can be fixed without too much trouble :). Otherwise it's just a shame that the initial briefing couldn't be done in the original style with drum beat, and that the new map features weren't incorporated - although I really do like having the inset minimap working. Just one more thing - the jettison cargo button doesn't display any text, at least for me.
It's still a pretty cool scenario, but I think I've exhausted the replayability of it over the years - what a surprise :).
I think it is soooooo AWESOME. I love EV:O but I couldn't find the needed $25 (i'm so lame). Once I got the money, EV:Nova was out. This gives me a way to play both and only pay once. (i'm really kind of cheap). THANKS AMBROSIA! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Alright, so far all the missions have worked fine for me, and I thought they wouldent start, but that was because of my own incompatence. Now I believe I am in the right, for some reason, I can't start the Destroy Voinian Fleet mission, and I have met all the prerequisites. Doesnt really matter though, because the mission isnt part of a mission string, it just plays well.
On another not, has the bug that disalsows missions to areas that will be changed fixed yet? if so, can someone link me to a patch? or do i need to redownload the files?

its absolutly great, just like the original Override, but, thats no exactly a good thing to me. i was disapointed that there were no ship engine glows or flares, but then again, i image that the makers of the EVO TC were trying to completly recreate it, so engine glows were not in the idea. shame though, there are some really great ships in EVO that would look so beutiful with a engine glow. shame, but understandable.
p.s. i am not didsing the TC in anyway, it is perfect and absolute in the sense they were trying to recreate.

The reason why Frontier Express missions only go to one place is because EVO set up the 3 FE missions to have a random UE Frontier spob as the destination.
When Nova is selecting a destination at random, it does not allow itself to pick a changable spob. This is to avoid having people get cargo that can only be delivered at locations that rarely exist. This wasn't a problem in EVO, however.
There are just a few other minor things like this that need to be taken care of, so maybe Ambrosia will consider doing an update in the future
Regarding the above post, yes, the goal of the ports were to be as close to the original as possible. There was a strong desire to modify this and change that... taken advantage of a Nova feature here and there... but, instead, we kept it nostalgic. There was one exception, the Find button (on the map). That wasn't in the original

Yeah, score! Out of interest, how does that cope with the two Kelmaon systems :)? Anyway, it would be cool if more time was available to them for updating the ports.

The phase weaponry firing at the same time is an interesting change (not sure I recall that from the original.)
So far, the toughest aspect of the game is the change from regenerating armor in EVO to non-regenerating armor in EVN. You can still stack your ship with Dospect and Bronev, but once it's gone in an extended firefight, you'll have to wait until you land for repairs to get it back again. I'm currently piloting an Arada with Dospect armor on it, and I have to be much more careful in Crescent battles as my shields go down very quickly, and all I have is that limited supply of armor to get myself through the fight.

Thanks for the explanation.
I saw exactly what you meant, when I started up my old (and still much loved) PowerMac 5500 (OS 8)and played the original EVO on it, and then compared it to the game, when running on the new G4 PowerMac MDD (OS 9).
However the old PM 5500, using OS 8.6, does play EVO faster than the ported version running on the new G4 tower. The 5500, as you know, was not exactly a super fast machine, even when new in 1998. It was the base model at that time.
I came across a problem when I purchased an RCS upgrade for my Lazira. The turn rate still states 90 after the upgrade and there is definitely no noticable change when turning.
Please don't take offence at my comments. I believe this has been a tremendous port. EVO is one of my favourite games - it's still one of my top 3. I've probably spent hundreds of hours playing EVO over the last few years - an EV and EVO addict.

The RCS thing is a bug. Please post your thoughts and opinion though, no one is being offended
Also noticed that the thrust upgrade boosts top speed by 75. If we were going from the straight EVO->EVN (x2 factor) shipyard stats, wouldn't this boost it by 150? Though, I could see this change as a balance alteration, which would give a nicer advantage to already faster ships, which I can appreciate.

Yea, I noticed that too. Hopefully that'll be fixed
Although I've heard some positive reviews about this plug-in from this post, you think someday, someone will create a real Nova-version of this plug? I think I read a topic long ago somwhere. The Nova version would add lots of features like many variants of a particular ship, and missions that will be expanded to include more details and stuff like that, and Nova-quality graphics and animation where UE fighters can bank left and right.

I was playing the Voinian storyline, and when I could I purchased a Voinian Crusier. While it comes with 4 Heavy Fighters, it apparently doesn't come with a bay that allows you to launch the fighters. Am I just missing something entirely here, or is this a bug?
Also, further on in the Voinian string, where you get sent to destroy the colony on Verril, I remember when I used to play Override so long ago, UE Cruisers were helping protect the colony, but in this version they didn't show up at all. (despite the mission briefing text a mission or too before saying something along the lines of "with the appearance of the new UE Cruiser")

Yes, it is a bug. A Mac version of the Voinian Cruiser comes with a bay. I have many times succesfully launched the 3 fighters the ship comes with.

I'm happy with it, but I'm really suffering without Outfit MODS and lightning jump. Any ideas in how to convert them to EVN?

I've come up with a really funky bug in the windows version. I've completed parts of the Needle Jammer string, all of the paaren, some of the miranu string, and started the UE military string. When I accept the mission to go investigate a new type of Voinian ship, whenever I try to reload the file it says something on the order of "this pilot file has data from an uninstalled plugin", which never happened before. I want to do this string so I can get a UE cruiser or whatever it's called, but apparently I can't. Is there any way to fix this?

Sad stuff, and I dont know a fix, but you dont need to do the Dreadnought string to get a UE Cruiser. You need to do the Anna Balishova string to get it. To get full details, visit Shayons EVO site. (url="http://"http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/users/~dghosh/")www.andrew.cmu.edu/users/~dghosh/(/url).
