Hi, my first post here
I'm not new to this game, but recently got Basilisk II working, and now I'm back to the game after a few years' pause...
So, I'm now on the situation that I've completed the UE secondary missions (Huron, Anna, Needle Jammer), I have an UE Destroyer, and ~8M credits.
So now it's time to think about a new ship.
So I'm now wondering which one would be better, the UE Cruiser, or the Crescent Warship?
My purposes are completing first the Voinian main missions, and then heading to the Crescent..
Which one would be better?
------------------
I would go with the UE Cruiser. The best weapon against the Voinians is the UE Fighter. The Cruiser has 5 and the Warship has none.
------------------ Why are there no maroon ships?
If you're going to go against the Voinians, go for the UE Cruiser. Blaze is much more effective against armor than phase, and your fighters have comparable weaponry. Although, it could be argued that you're losing too much maneuverability with the Cruiser, and that the Warship would be better for that...I'd still go for the cruiser if you're going to go against the Voinians. You might have to change when you go the Crescent, or you might not, depending on how you outfit it.
Welcome to the boards!
Regards, Solel

It Depends if you want to go into battle of not if you get a UE Cruiser make sure you get extras upgrade from the Mirau (however you spell it ) they have great upgrades! BOOMING!
If you want firepower, get a UE Cruiser or Igazra, Igazra is somewhat faster, UE Cruiser has more expansion space and a good fighter squadron. If you want to flit around like a madman and be nigh invulnerable to anything short of concentrated fire from multiple ships, get an Azdara. The Crescent Warship isn't a "best ship" under any circumstances, just a good ship overall. Oh, and if you're going to use it you ought to dump the Crescent Fighter bay, its a waste of 80 tons IMHO.

Guess AI Azdaras are dumber. When I fired my Igazras 5 Phase Turrets on a single Azdara, it died. Yeah, the CWs expanision space is bad without dumping the Crescent Fighter bay. I guess it could be limitedly useful though- I dont know because I havent tried.
------------------ I am eager to try to ansver mission questions
Thanks for the replies.
Now I'm sure I'll get the Cruiser. It looks cooler too
Too bad I'm not so good with the fighters.. I like more going into the fray myself a bit more...
You're praising the Azdara. Is it really that good? I have found fighters very good (at least equipped with Swivel Phasies or just Blazies) but I've never done the Azdgari string, and if I did, I probably won't have bought the little Azdara..
Gotta try that someday too..

UE Cruiser really is better than the CW. The CW has MUCH less armor, and a bit less shields. Plus, it can't hold as many guns. Another advantage of the UE Cruiser is that, if you ever go to fight in the Crescent, it's large amount of armor will help.

Yes it is. With Dospect Armor, it armor regenerates faster than it can be taken away. I tested this by parking in front of a Voinian Frigate with 4 Blaze Cannons. The little armor I lost was instantly regenerated. I lost shields quick enough to Neutron fire, but my armor never went down. Its even better with a Shield Generator, and nigh on invincibile with the Experiemental Shield Generator, which makes regeneration insanely fast. If it is hit by a Rocket, it is pushed far away to regenerate fast. You can dodge even SAEs with a turning of 240/sec. But if you dont, your shields will drop to 15%. I dunno about about Pursuit Missiles though, which are said in description to be specially designed to hit fighters. I didnt do the the string with the little Azdara either, but then I didnt know how good it could be with armor. I had a Crescent Warship with extra Phase Turret and speed upgrades, and extra armor. It was tough taking a Zidara down even with it. I lost over 50% shields.
I think its a flaw in the game balance myself, the idea was supposed to be the Azdara only had 19 points of shielding, but regenerated really fast. However, with the 20 ton Dospect (which will just barely fit on the Azdara) your defenses are more than tripled. Between insane regeneration and moderate total protection, I can't think of any sort of weapon the AI can throw at you that would kill you. Note that an AI Azdara only has its shields, which makes it little more than a nuisance, rather understating its potential.
You can do similar arrangements with the Crescent Fighter and the Voinian Heavy Fighter, buying Dospect, doing the Azdgari string to get the experimental generator, and then being nearly invincible. I believe the only ship that can kill you is the Disco Bison.
Woo, Disco Bison.
I bought the UE Cruiser, but then I saw a lovely Igazra flying about, I disabled it and captured it.
Igazra is the best capital ship, isn't it?
Originally posted by Gus: **Woo, Disco Bison. Igazra is the best capital ship, isn't it?
Disco Bison is indeed scary. I can tell you its stats if you want. Igazra is one of the best, but Voinian Cruiser is even better, awesome in the Crescent because its almost indestructable there. Properly upgraded (read: both armors, speed upgrades and 3 turrets), it can take on a UE Carrier with no problems. UE Cruiser is really good too for its abundant space.
There is one thing an Igazra can't do well though: Capture other ships. Igazras have a huge armament by default, so I think that makes them the best escorts, but to capture some you'd be better off in a UE or Voinian Cruiser, since they can both take the beating needed to disable it and have the crewpower to take it. I wouldn't capture an Igazra and use it as my own ship until I had at least 5 of them as escorts.

Yeah, they have crappy crew. Only downside. They do have a huge armament... which other ship can take a Crescent Warship with only primaries and only lose 50% shields? But getting 5 of them as escorts would be difficult because you had to exactly know when to stop the fast murderous action to get more than two. They also have 3 SAE launchers, which are dead weight after 30 modules are used. Which is bad, and somebody should make a plug.
Hi General Cade Smart, you're from Finland too!
Anyways, yes, the Igazra has very little crew.
I actually once bought a Turncoat for some reason, probably just to try it out, got damn bored of it, bought a few Phase Turrets and Monty Pythoned (yes, shame on me) an Igazra dead.
Then I successfully captured it.
I don't like using escorts, I'm more into the solo business, so capturing ships doesn't matter that much.
And about the Disco Bison: I once made a Plug In where there was a special UE Fighter with the Disco Machine Gun. It was insane. But insane ships aren't fun, I learnt that from my early days of Plug-inning..
Now I have the Igazra with Neutron Turrets, tried Emalgha turrets too as they do more damage but they had hopeless range and accuracy. I'm doing ok now.
A question about the Voinian Mission String: How do I get to continue it? I've destroyed the Dreadnought and delivered the Emalgha message to Earth, and the Ambassador back to Emalgha, and I have frequently checked both Emalgha and Gurado bars, but no success..
My combat rating is deadly, I guess. Do I need to improve it, or my favor with the Emalgha, or just try more?
(sorry for a long post ^_^)
The string is continued in the bar of one of Emalghion's moons, perhaps you need to keep trying, but getting that Ultimate rating couldn't hurt.

Gurado. I guess he has just bad luck; Noteworthy should be enough. Probably he needs a Upstanding Citizen rating? You can get that by doing Defend Emalghion missions.
