Eve of Destruction

Zurg was studying plans for the improvement of the Empire. First off he must create a police force and system of law to crack down on crime. Second would be constuction of more factories after he had enough clones to work in them. He turned from his computer thinking what would happen if the Vonians did not agree to a treaty. The Human Empire would fall and his enemies would clinch victory. No, he would not let that happen. The only way to ensure victory would be to contact other nations. He got up and put on his silver cloak. As he moved down the hall 2D55 apeared. "I will be gone for several days, tell Scam Travis to take charge of the Empire while I am gone here are some papers detailing how cloning plans should proceed." Ten minutes later he arrived at the hangar where his silver scoutship waited. He climbed into the cocpit and activated the start sequence. The engines roared and the ship launched out the bay doors.

South Tip Conclave
Scattered Feathers

The surface above Deep Isle was an apparently natural plateau, albeit it an apparently natural plateau located in the centre of a vast blue-green ocean. Most of the time, this plateau was barren of Kayan or Strandless life, with the occupants and visitors spending their time in the actual complex that stretched out below.

It was one such exception of this. Perched on the edge of the plateau, a steep fall just ahead, a lone figure squatted, watching the light reflected off the ocean glimmer and twinkle, and watching the stars above. The sky was clear. The stars were clear. One star seemed all too clear. A bright star in the northern sky. Of course, what was only now being seen to the inhabitants of Kayia was that star fifteen years ago, but this mattered not to the Strandless that watched it out of the corner of his eye.

“You need your sleep, Taikaenor,” a light voice came from behind him. The Strandless turned his head slightly, revealing wearied eyes. “Strandless may be able to stay awake for three days running with ease, but they practically hybernate for a day after that. And besides... you’ve been up seven days now.”

Taikaenor turned back to the star. It was some time before he spoke, and when he did, his voice was quietened, wearied. “I have been unable to sleep as of late.”

“Liar,” the voice replied. Soft footsteps carried the voice to Taikaenor’s side, where a flame-haired Kayan sat. “Do not tell me you could not sleep, for I know that you would not.”

“What does it matter?” Taikaenor replied harshly. “I cannot allow this attack to fail.” He looked at the star again. So bright...

“You have done all that you can do. Being awake for the battle will do you no more good now, my dear.”

“I cannot sleep now...”

“You can. And you will,” came the reply, firm and insistent. Taikaenor paid it no more heed than the cold. He continued staring off into the sky, his eyes burning, his senses nulled. He hardly noticed when the tranquilising needle sank into his arm, and he drifted off. “It’s out of your hands now,” she murmured.

The Mavs star system was home to one of the largest and most powerful renegade bases in the known galaxy, arguably surpassed only by the fortress of The Rock in DSN-2131, in the North Tip. Histiri Station was defended heavily by a renegade fleet of sixteen Crescent warships, fourty eight Aradas and thirty two Crescent fighters, along with fourty eight naval Crescent fighters. Of those ships, eighteen Crescent fighters, three Crescent warships and six Aradas were patrolling the system on medium alert. In addition, five independant pirate Crescent warships were in the system, moving about on their regular business.

All semblance of regularity, however, was broken by ninety two hyperspacial energy waves, which all ships in the system, and the station, picked up close to instantly. And then, milliseconds later, ninety two sensor dots appeared. Visual scans were drawn, but nothing was seen. Later, a closer inspection from the station’s sensors would reveal irregularities in space, the disappearance of stars briefly, and a visible shield bubble outline when damaged was received. It was not a cloak; that much was apparent quickly. Sensors were able to target the ships, but they registered only as shield grids, and nothing else.

There was a moment of confusion, and in the opening of the battle, only a moment was needed. The attackers, comprised of fifty four Crescent fighters and thirty two Aradas, quickly divided up into seperate groups. Nine Crescent fighters - or so they appeared, from their shape - split off, and moved to attack one of the independant pirate warships. They dived, strafed, evaded SAD fire, and weaved intertwining circles around the ship, as if they were in unison with each other. The skills of those pilots was undeniable from the very beginning, and the bewildered ship fell, its weapons not even ready. The hunter-killer group moved on to their next target, a knot of three Aradas, deftly avoiding dispersal rockets.

Meanwhile, the remaining Crescent fighters split off into two groups, and began to engage the vessels in the system en masse, attempting to keep the renegade vessels from being able to group - in which case they would be much more dangerous. Sixteen Aradas hung back, delivering back-up fire for the two more numerous groups of fighters. By the time the system defenders were able to organise themselves, they had taken some considerable losses. The hunter-killer group had eliminated the knot of Aradas, and two more pirate warships. The other two fighter squadrons, between them, had obliterated nine Crescent fighters, three Aradas and two Crescent warships. The Arada group had taken down the third renegade warship in-system and another pirate warship, along with five more Crescent fighters. Four Crescent fighters - none from the hunter-killer group - and an Arada were lost on the attackers side.

It was the fifth division of the attackers, streaks that were shield grids, unidentifiable and unrecognisable, that made the most daring strike. Sixteen Aradas dived straight for Histiri Station upon entering the system. Two of them fell to enemy fire, but they wasted no time in cutting their path. Upon closing in on the station, schematics of the station’s outline were loaded into the ships’ computers, and dispersal rockets were fired towards the star docks. The ships threw themselves at the station, causing as much damage as they could, tearing hangar after hangar to shreds, and eliminating the defenceless renegade ships within them.

One Arada seperated from that group, and its target was quite different.

“Azemir, are you sure you know what you’re doing?” came the concerned comm. link from Nhada, over-lieutenant of the attacking forces.

“Positive,” the veteran Strandless responded over the link. “Just cover my back.”

“My squadron is cutting a path through to the station. Their in-system defenders are all but dealt with,” Nhada said. “I’ll be there.”

Azemir sighed. Don’t ruin this mission just to keep me alive , he thought to himself, but he did not speak it. Instead, he closed the comm. link. He didn’t intend to survive.

The Arada - the Ascendant Flare - turned away from the others, and made a blind race across the station. Meanwhile, renegade fighters and Aradas began to launch, and Histiri Station’s own fixed defences became the next goal of the thirteen remaining Aradas. Two renegade Crescent fighters quickly fixed onto the Ascendant Flare , which boosted its engines with raw hyperspace fuel, moving it further and faster, but slowly, the interceptors began to gain on it.

Histiri Station’s command dome came into sight, a heavily armoured and defended sphere near the core of the station. No warships had launched from the station yet: the captains and their crew would be located somewhere in the command dome, yet. Some would already have made the way to the hangars, but hopefully, most would not have.

Phase pulses tore at the shields of the Ascendant Flare , and Azemir was unable to escape the fire. Two more renegade fighters swept before his ship, streaks of light nearly piercing the shields of the ship, forcing him to move in a different direction, hopelessly.

A visual wraith - present on sensors - opened its fury upon one of the enemy fighters, dancing out of the way of enemy fire deftly. Nhada’s ship, the Vigilante , and at its flank another Crescent fighter, one of the hunter-killer group, whose pilot was Lysaeun.

And then Azemir’s saviours were hurled back into the fighting, and another renegade ship, an Arada, locked onto the Ascendant Flare.

The command dome dominated the view from Azemir’s Arada, close ahead, but there was no time now to open fire. The Arada behind launched a dispersal rockets, imploding in close proximity with his ship, reducing his shields to 7% of maximum. If the shields fell, the renegades would be able to scan the Ascendant Flare , and they would know the origin of the attacking fleet. That could not happen.

Drowned in the organised chaos of warfare, what appeared to be the shield grid of an Arada dived into the command dome on Histiri Station, overloading the shield grid half a second too late for any renegade ship to scan it. The dome exploded in a cloud of plasma, taking with it the captain and crew of seven Crescent warships.

Both sides had now commited all their ships to the fight. While the attackers had at first held a decisive advantage over the surprised and outnumbered in-system defenders, the renegade forces now launched, comprised of six Crescent warships (another seven had no crew to pilot them), thirty Aradas and ten Crescent fighters, were proving a formidable opponent for the light attackers. Losses were now roughly equal on both sides.

Azemir’s force had been annihilated down to the last ship, thirteen Aradas torn to shreds by the renegade defenders. The squadrons Nhada and Jenra commanded were now unable to pick off lone renegade targets - the remaining defenders had bunched into a three-dimensional phalanx. At that point, the remaining attacking forces - Nhada and Jenra’s squadrons, Karatis’ Arada wing, and the hunter-killer group moved together. Nhada, as over-lieutenant of the attack, sent a masked message to the renegade ships as the two fleets stared each other out for a brief moment.

(- Source: Identity Masked, Location 3529:1043:5025 Sector ZA Mavs -)

Our attack is in the name of justice and vengeance, renegades. Know that now you shall pay for your crimes against countless life, numerous species. Now, is the time to price the price. There shall be no quarter, there shall be no surrender, and there shall be no escape from us. Prepare to meet your doom.

(- end transmission -)

“All ships,” Nhada spoke into the comm. link to the Conclave fleet. He paused, his eyes glancing at the sensor map, that told him that the two forces were evenly numbered - sixty four and sixty two - but that the enemy had warships, and more Aradas. But the sensor map told him something else as well. Nowhere in the system was the Ascendant Flare , Azemir’s Arada.

“Nhada?” Jenra’s voice came over the comm. link. “Attack?”

“Attack,” Nhada muttered bitterly. “Let us end this tale.”

The Vehement Fury , an upgraded Crescent fighter piloted by Lysaeun d’Maenir, performed a U-turn, shaking off two renegade fighters at its tail. Another two fighters - Conclave ones - engaged them, eliminating them without slowly down and turning to follow Lysaeun’s ship. They were the Warrior Savant , and the Eudaemon , and both upgraded as much as the Vehement Fury.

The three fighters strafed an enemy Crescent warship, the returning phase fire proving too inaccurate and underpowered to stand against those three ships. The Eudaemon barrel rolled off to the side, dancing a deadly short dance with an enemy Arada, out-turning it and tearing its hull to shreds by wildfire bursts of concentrated light. The other two ships made one last strafe against the warship, transcending it and its occupants to the ethereal, majestic world of nothingness, the intense plasmatic nebula that was its own personal Hell.

“Nice work,” a voice - the Eudaemon’s pilot - said over the comm. link. “Not bad at all.”

“Easy work,” Lysaeun responded. “Next target?”

“That would be... nothing, actually,” answered the pilot of the Warrior Savant. “We appeared to have a battle-over situation on our hands here...”

Lysaeun blinked, and checked his sensor map. Indeed, the battle was all but over. The last few renegade ships were falling, and already hyperspacial anomalies marked the entrance of non-military ships carrying forces to attack and take the station. He quickly scanned the system for one ship he had lost in the fighting; the Vigilante. He found Nhada’s ship among the survivors, along with lieutenant Jenra. Azemir’s ship was gone, and all that remained of Karatis’ Relentless was its escape pod. Beyond that, of the ninety two ships that had engaged in the battle, fourty two remained, mostly battered wrecks. Of the nine pilots - including Lysaeun and his two comrades - who had formed the hunter-killer group, Lysaeun was almost surprised to see that all remained, and not in too bad of a state.

“Pretty good fight. Close...” murmured the pilot of the Eudaemon.

“Indeed,” Lysaeun said. It could have been closer, but it will be some time before the Conclave’s fleets can fight again.

Over the next three days, Histiri Station was captured and repaired to its former status. Its resource stockpiles were put to use, and its shipyards activated as soon as possible to restore the damaged fleets. When news of the victory reached Hrinix, and the Conclave were able to send an official emissary there, the system’s government was quick to accept a unification with the Conclave. Decades of war and strife in this region were over. Light years away, on Obutes, the Federal Directorate began to feel the pressure of its own citizens. Now that the war was over, and not by the Directorate’s ships, the Directorate began to suffer the consequences of its tyranny. Soon, the planet would have to be liberated from its previous dictators.

Conclave Shipyards

4 Crescent fighters constructed, 2 Aradas constructed. (4/12/02 construction)

Histiri Station had a production of one Crescent warship, three Aradas, and two Crescent fighters per day. The shipyards weren’t directly hit - just the hangars - so they are unaffected. The station’s production is restated as shown below:

1 Crescent Warship, 3 Aradas and 2 Crescent Fighter /day becomes -->
2 Laziras, 3 Aradas and 4 Crescent Fighters /day

The Arada count remains the same, while two of the fighters that would have been included in the warship go to the fighter production, and the rest of the resources that would have made the Crescent Warship are used to produce two Laziras.

The shipyards in the Hrinix system will provide 2 Crescent fighters in additional production.

Effective as of tomorrow, my production is: 2 Laziras, 5 Aradas and 10 Crescent fighters.

23 Crescent fighters, 22 Aradas destroyed in Mavs, fighting South Tip Renegades

Fleet Status: 39 Crescent fighters, 14 Aradas in total. 25 Crescent fighters and 7 Aradas in Mavs on patrol, standby or in for repairs. 10 Crescent fighters and 5 Aradas en route to Bakoom. 4 Crescent fighters and 2 Aradas on patrol or standby in Bakoom.

Battle Status: Battle against the South Tip Renegades (Histiri Station, Mavs.) Battle ended in victory for the South Tip Conclave. Histiri Station has been captured, and is now a Conclave base. Hrinix has unified with the Conclave as a result.

Mindule was mad to hear about Mordus, but was also excited. What a perfect time to test the new Berserker Torpedo. With 10 I. Moderation: Revoked. Unless I'm greatly mistaken, this production rate is far too fast considering your size. It's 2-3 times as fast as the Conclave's construction rate, and we have 5 stellar objects to your 2. Suggesting 1 Crescent Warship, 2 Aradas and 5 Crescent fighters. Please note that you construct this many every day. Treating construction like something you just do now and then will not mean you can construct more than you would normally.

I know in some ways, it's more logical to produce ships in batches rather than constantly, but this is the way it is done. Please note in every future post of yours your ship production, but note...

..if you miss a day, then you can say what you produced on that day as well as the day of the post. If you post twice, you don't get another day's construction. And finally, you can't say you constructed ships on days long past (i.e., if you didn't construct ships on Saturday, and it's now Wednesday, too long ago, mate.)

Zurg and disco: if you are NOT regularly reading "New Life", please do so. It is the official OOC topic for this topic, and there are notes and moderations located there which effect at least one of you. If you ignore them... boom.

Saga of the Guild: Chapter 11

Mira

"This session of the Miranu High Council will come to order," annouced Trademaster Dah quietly. All conversation among the High Councilors abrubtly ceased. The trademaster smiled, then readjusted his communicator and continued. "Researcher Somm is once again absent from our meeting, but the lack of his presence is excused due to the negotiations he is now conducting with the Zidagar. We will thus speak openly of a new message received from the South Tip Conclave."

Muttering ensued among the High Councilors. Trademaster Dah noted how Councilor Marig seemed most interested in the knowledge that the Conclave had defeated a renegade enclave. He did not fail to notice how Councilor Imir suddenly grew attentive as the mention of the Proxima Nebula occurred. She immediately posed the question to the councilors whether or not the Miranu could one day explore this southern Nebula as well when the NPD was finished. Many of them simply clasped their hands, the Miranu gesture of uncertainty regarding a question with too many unknown variables. Imir sighed. Corzun Dah chuckled to himself how easily discouraged the young High Councilor was. He struck the gavel several times to restore order.

"As you can see from the message, the Conclave has assured us that they are now ready to accept our token of friendship. High Councilor Imir, as you represent the main Trade Directorate, the Miranu Trading Conglomerate will be in charge of the shipment of two full complements of starship construction parts. Detach two heavy freighters to fulfill this task, and," the Trademaster paused for a moment, "Councilor Neve Ashak, you are to accompany the freighters in a negotiation courier and speak with the leaders of the Conclave. It is always in our best interest to know our allies as well as our enemies, and it will show the Conclave that we are taking to heart their warning of caution."

Councilor Ashak nodded his head once to demonstrate his understanding. Satisfied, the trademaster continued. "High Councilor Marig, as Zeldair has a large complement of Engineers, I will ask you as to the progress of our outfitting our fleets with the new singularity warp shielding." Trademaster Dah waved his hand to acknowledge Marig.

"The upgrade is complete, honorable Trademaster. The final refits were finished mere hours ago, according to Chief Engineer Aenig. He assures us that all the gunships and carriers produced in the future will be equipped with them. Engineer Aenig has informed me that several Pilots are in orbit around Station Pybin testing the new shielding. So far results have been quite promising," concluded High Councilor Marig.

With this and the Device, we will be able to discover untold secrets of the universe within the Ji Nebula. I'll be required to inform the public of our grand endeavor soon, thought Trademaster Dah. He promised to himself to write the speech tonight.

Station Pybin Orbit

Several dark gold shapes fired their engines and arrayed themselves in a vanguard formation. The Miranu Freighters then did something never before seen in the Star League: they jettisoned cargo. High explosive shells brought out from deep storage within the station, the cargo drifted towards each separate freighter, in agreement with the calculations made earlier to such an end by Engineer Aenig. When the bombs approached within four hundred meters of one of the freighters, the stars behind it were blocked out by a swirling circle of pure, deepest black. The swirling mass was observed to pull in small amounts of space dust circling the system, and the explosive shells were altering course to enter the hole. They were not altering course by direction. Gravity was pulling them in. Within moments the entire shell was engulfed by the singularity and fell into the small black hole, crushed into uselessness by the intense gravitational fields of the singularity; in a few more seconds all the cargo was gone from the system. The freighters converged back on the station, their comms alive with excited chatter. Several couriers could be seen coming out of hyperspace and docking with the station as well. One item was definite.

The singularity warp shielding was a complete success.

Station Pybin

The Pilots of the scout couriers brought their nimble craft to a comfortable hover in the docking bay of Station Pybin, and were both surprised and pleased to find a Zidara there as well. The Pilots walked a magnetotram terminal and keyed it to take them to Conference Chamber 12.

There they found Scientist Loeugith waiting for them. He looked rather disheveled, having worked forty-nine hours without rest on the Nebula Penetration Device. He looked up, and the exhaustion instantly disappeared from his features.

"You have completed your scouting mission?" The Pilots nodded. "And you have the maps?" Affirmatives. "Excellent. Upload them over there into the main database," instructed Loeugith with a wave in the direction of a network terminal. "Design of this device is proving more difficult than I had anticipated, but the sensor arrays we had in stock seem to be adequate to the task," the Scientist muttered. "Your work here in mapping the entrances into the Ji Nebula will not go unrewarded," promised the scientist. "The four of you will be the first to test the NPD when it is completed."

The Pilots looked up from their work at the terminal, eyes gleaming with eagerness. One of them looked directly at the Scientist and into the pupils of his eyes. "You'd better keep working then, friend. We are ever ready to venture into the unknown, and we Pilots are seldom known for our patience." He held the Scientist's gaze a while longer, then the entire room erupted in friendly laughter. Loeugith took the point though, and soon ushered the Pilots out of his work area and continued to tinker with his sensor arrays.

Myrx thought about the proposal of a new zidagar class arada. He had seen many times in battle against the Azdgari and Igadzra using their modified aradas with tremendous power. Now that that power could also become theirs, or better yet a stronger power as to their new firepower they would use that have not been used by either of the other strands. He then had a slight grin filled with content.
"I accept your generous proposal of the designs of a new Zidagar class arada. Now I would like this next question answered if possible," Myrx stopped, as though thinking of how he would state his question, then started again, "When are you planning the offensive against the North Tip Renegades? I have stationed an extra task force, about the size of mine, on Qerid. I also had another depart to the northern Miranu space to aid the Zachit in case of attack from the renegades. I could also have more ships sent within the next week if the need of more fighters comes about." There was a long pause, Lelos Somm was evidently thinking hard on the answer. An attack is not just a spur of the moment decision to be made, especially by the peaceful Miranu traders/scientists/etc.

High Councilor Somm paced the room once, tapping his left temple fiercely in time with the swirling of the robes of his position. He almost knocked over a valuablel Zidagar vase in his haste to come to a benign decision, but luckily an aide caught it and Lelos Somm promptly apologized. The Zidagar implied it was nothing, and that he continue to give his attention to their question. Finally, the temple-tapping ceased, and Researcher Somm resumed his seat.

"We will commence our battle plans in four galactic standard weeks. It will yet be some time before we are fully prepared, but with this missile that you have so graciously given us construction plans for will no doubt aid us in our assault. Supreme Admiral Sunrunner will contact you when the time is right," assured the Miranu negotiator. He flicked a hand in the direction of an aid, and instructed him using the Miranu hand language to compose a treaty on the docuscribe. Within minutes, the document was ready, and the Zidagar formally pledged to share the missile designs, and the Miranu signed their decree to design the missile arada.

As the Zidagar Commander and High Councilor Lelos Somm filed out of the room with their entourages, Somm turned to face the Commander. "We will begin work on the prototype design as soon as the teams developing the Ra and Sokar starships finish. One of them will be directed to develop the missile arada. Be assured, it will not be long before we communicate the plans to you over the most highly encrypted wavelengths. On behalf of the Miranu Star League, I thank you for your generous contribution to our scientific community."

The Zidagar Commander returned the farewell, and was soon seen boarding his vessel.

============

"The chair recognizes Supreme Admiral Shek Sunrunner." Today a meeting with the Miranu fleet commander had been scheduled. The Supreme Admiral surprised the High Council by arriving several hours early to peruse the databases of Miranu High Council meeting summaries. Now, he stood to give his report.

"Honorable representatives of the Miranu Star League, I bring with me a summary of our current fleets and their positions across our space. They are here for you to peruse as you wish. I eagerly await the completion of Station Pybin's current research projects. That is all I have to say for the present."

The High Council was stunned. Rarely was it seen that such a short speech could cover all the information the Supreme Admiral had been called upon to present. The session thus ended far earlier than usual, as the High Council had planned for the conference with the Supreme Admiral to take over a galactic standard hour.

Trademaster Corzun Dah thus took the time to compose a short message to the Miranu's Zachit allies and to read the fleet positions data.

After a good-bye to the Miranu, Myrx led his crew to the ships. Leaving behind their scientists to aid in any way they possibly can with research, the crew boarded and prepped their ships. Myrx followed the other ships as they shot backwards through the hangar. All was quiet in the void of space. The only movement besides the purple task force was a Miranu H. freighter exiting the system. The jump computers calculated their destination, making sure space was clear of debris, other ships, and anything else that could be in their path. In a few moments the computer beeped an affirmitive, and the destination course flashed on the screen. Within seconds there was a quick flash of orange on purple, and the ships entered light speed. Then silence prevailed.

Internal Development Report
With the completion of the box launcher, and the testing being carried out in fleet actions, work has turned towards a similar item for the dispersal rocket. Work is expected to be quicker on this item due to experience with the pursuit missile version. Projections show it weighing 15 tons and carrying 10 Rockets.

DSN-6107
The Renagades had known the League was coming, their forces in Groned having been wiped out. Their sensors knew the League would arrive soon. They just didnt know exactly when the Leage would arrive.

And now the League arrived, and struck.

Within seconds of the fleets arrival, Alpha Wing had neared the planet, and within range of their weapons. Opening fire with their new pursuit missile box launchers, they aimed for the Renagade tunnel openings. The swarm of pursuit missiles smashed into the Renagades surface, sealing much of the Renagade fleet into the planet.

L.N.S. Renekar
Admiral Ilither smiled as the sensor readings of the Renagade fleet came in. It looked like 2 of the CWs had been trapped on the planet, along with 8 of the Laziras, and 3 of the Aradas. that left just 3 CW, 12 Laziras, and 2 Aradas to fight. The Renagade fleet had never been designed for major fleet action in the first place, but raiding other people. The rise of a strong strandless force changed the force equation.

The League Fleet, freshly outfitted with box launchers charged into the Renagade ships. The first volley of fire between the Leagues Aradas and Renagade Aradas was decisive, the pursuit missiles wiping the R.Aradas from space, the numbers being too much in favour of the League.

For the Leagues Laziras, the battle was slightly more even, but the volley of the pursuit missiles wiped several of the Renagade Laziras from space, and the weakened Renaagde forces where now outnumbered. And the League struck

As for the Crescent Warships, they where outnumbered and outgunned.

---

Admiral Ilithat looked over the damage report from the fleet with a grimace. He of all people hadnt expected the Renagades to ram the Leagues forces, it was against everything in the Renagades character. As it was, the League had lost a CW, another one was heavily damaged, and 3 Laziras had been wiped out. Luckily it looked like the Renagade forces trapped on the planet might be captured. With terms offered to the Renagades left, DSN-6107 would soon be the Leagues.

----

Internal Development Report
Work is proceeding well with the dispersal rocket box launcher, although a fw problems have appeared. test runs show that attempting to fire more than 4 of the rockets at once tends to result in rocket fratricide, and heavily damage the firing ship. Unfortunately, it is not expected this problem can be solved without inceasing the size of the launcher, and that is currently not an option.

As Kirk went back to his normal house, he was thinking over the news that he got this morning.

~FlashBack~

Kirk woke up that morning, and was expecting another normal day of meetings, and talks, he was alarmed by the beeping of a HIGH-Priority Message. Kirk walked briskly to the comm. panel and said. “Yes?”

Rian said, “Um, sir, there is a high-priority coded message from the MTC.”

Kirk said, “Very well. I will take the message.” He walked to his chair and sat down and punched in the code, “<Classified>”.

A picture of Corzun Zah popped up and said, “We will attack <Classified> in four weeks. Give us some aids while keeping the space defended.” He shut down the message and thought to himself, “After all of those years, we are now attacking with our allies. This is a battle that I will personally see.”

He snapped out of his thoughts and leaned over to the comm. panel and said, “Rian, send an encoded message replying that Kirk will personally see that the battle is done with 5 Zachit Aradas, 5 Zachit Fighters, and my personal CW.”

Rian said, “Yes, sir, but sir, what about our shipyard?”

Kirk said, “Tell the engineers at Tmidran to go full pace for the next 4 weeks, and also tell them that something you all hate will be falling.”

Rian said, “Yes, sir!”

Kirk leaned back in his chair and said, “This is a battle that we will win” and smiled happily.

End FlashBack

Kirk went to his meeting room where he have called for another meeting of the scientists.

Kirk sat down and said, :”Any suggestions?” One researcher said, “There is a new way. If I’m right, this technology mustn’t fall into the renegades hand.”

Kirk smiled deviously and said, “Don’t worry about it, researcher. Continue.

The researcher said., “What if we should contact the Emalgha? We know they have decent <classified> and we are going to need those in the battle, because right now, it is anyone’s game.”

Kirk leaned back and sid, “Hmmm....we will wait until Emalgha emerges and then we will contact him.

I’m not sure what my shipyard’s supposed to be right now. So, I would like to be informed.”

I will build 5 Zachit Aradas and 7 Zachit fighters from today until Tuesday.

------------------

The Igadzran fleet arrived in Mordus and opened fire without a seconds notice. As SAEs flashed through space, a few Igazras and I. Aradas launched what looked like a large, deep blue SAE. The Berserker missiles flew past the SAEs with ease, and went strait for the capital ships. The first Berserker hit a A. Warship, and caused the whole ship to shudder. The Berserker was just stuck there, but the Warships shields were slowly draining. More Berserkers slammed into the ship, and were stuck onto it. The shields were going rapidly now, and were almost gone. As the last shields dissipated, the Berserkers traveled the tiny distance from where the shields were to the hull, and detonated. with at least 4 missiles stuck on the ship, the explosions engulfed it in fire. When they cleared, all that remained was a burnt out hulk, that was quickly torn to shreds by an SAE. Another Berserker hit a fighter that was protecting the Warships as they retreated, and its shields drained quickly. Then, the fighter was gone in a ball of light and energy. As more Berserker were launched, the Igadzran's launchers quickly ran out of Berserker ammo, and there was no time to reload. It was not expected to be used to quickly. Reverting back to SAEs, the Igadzrans managed to take out another few Warships and serveral more fighters before the I. Aradas reached point blank range, firing their own Berserker torps and laying waste to the fighters. Then the I. Aradas sped past the fighters at top speeds, trying to avoid incoming projectiles and lasers. They reached the Warships and started to wreck as much havok as possible.

Igadzra shipcount in Mordus:
17 Igazras
36 I. Aradas

Azdgari shipcount in Mordus:
5 A. Warships, one badly dammaged and in critical condition
24 A. Aradas
46 Azdaras
------
The Igadzras had minimal losses, due to the distance between the Azdgari ships and the Igadzra ships, and also because Berserker missiles still travel pretty fast. All Azdgari forces are chased out of the system, and the station was begining to be repaired. New Berserker missile installments will take place in all stations, along with a few phase cannon installments. This will take approx 2 days. The Igadzra fleet now heads for Duidir. Will arrive in 1 day.
----------
All ships have by now been reoutfitted with Berserker weaponry.
Absorbancy Shielding Generator project Cancelled. A new upgrade to the Berserker missiles will take it's place.
Upgrade:
Improved guidance systems, and a major change, a tractor beam installment. One beam is on the Berserker missile launcher, and it grabs the Berserker missile, which has a special reciever. This will make recievers more costly, but ships with a Berserker on them will barely be able to move and will not be able to jump to hyperspace. ETA: 5 days.
----------
A tiny fleet of 1 Igadzra and 7 I. Aradas heads for Himgrow. Will be there in two days.
----------
Another fleet of 2 Igadzra and 10 I. Aradas heads for Thoso to investigate the "ue". Will be there in 3 days.

Everything was quiet in the Molar system. The Azdgari fleet in the system was currently in the middle of the graveyard shift, but Drelan Ipvicus was still awake in his quarters. He was currently distracting himself by going over the weapon specifications for the new Phase Burst modifications that had been made to all of the ships in his fleet. With the new modifications his fleet's firepower would be greatly increased, especially when against Zidagar and Renegade fighters. With a small yawn Ipvicus put down the report and walked over to his suite's small bar and poured himself a cup of some spicy herbal tea native to one of Molar's warmer equatorial islands.

After a short time Ipvicus began to stare out his window at the atmosphere of Molar below him. As his eyes wandered, his mind turned to the offensive against the Zidagar that would be beginning in the next few days. Many brave Azdgari would die, and many Zidagar along with them, and he could only hope that this would not end in the bitter stalemate that had consumed his people for centuries.

Shaking himself out of this reverie, Ipvicus returned to his data terminal and pulled up another report on ship movements...

Two Days Later... Fluron System

Three sleek Zidaras with their fighter escorts were on patrol at the edge of the Fluron system as the Azdgari raiding group came out of hyperspace. As soon as they had their bearings the 6 Azdgari Warships in the Task Force began to launch fighters, while the 30 Aradas split into groups of five and each took up defensive positions around a Warship. In a matter of moments the Zidagar patrol was sending urgent messages back to their Naval HQ.

"Red Alert! We have an Azdgari attack fleet out here that just jumped out of hyperspace, we're moving to intercept but there are too many of them... request you send immediate backup!"

While the Zidagar ships arrayed themselves in a last ditch defensive posture, the Azdgari ships accelerated straight for them looking like a hive of demonic insects. The two opposing fleets met in a hail of Phase bursts and Dispersal rockets, the Zidagar lost 3 fighters and all three Zidaras suffered minor damage, while the Azdgari only suffered the loss of an Arada and some minor damage to a Warship. Insted of staying to wipe out the rest of the Zidagar ships, all but two of the Warships and their escorts broke and made for the planet. The battle had pretty much come down to cannons and phased beams by this point, and while the Zidaras were doing well, it was obvious that even with most of their enemy leaving... the superior number of opponents still fighting were eventually going to win the day.

Meanwhile, the majority of the Azdgari ships were going about making a raid on the Flour itself. Two more Azdgari Warships, their fighters, and 10 Azdgari Aradas took up protective positions in orbit in order to intercept whatever ships tried to launch from the planet below, while the rest of the ships entered the atmosphere to achieve their main mission objective: Destroy the chemical plants of Flour.

Most of the planet's industrial strength was centered around the Flour Spaceport, and this is where the Azdgari made their strike. While the Aradas and Azdaras were off blowing up factories, the two Warships landed at the spaceport the Spaceport and disembarked commando units to secure as much Industrial Goods as possible for the raiders. After only 20 minutes they had accomplished what they had come for... not only was over 80% of Flour's chemical industry in smoking ruins, the Raiders had made off with over 100 tons of industrial goods.

By this time the situation around the Flouron system was getting a bit too hot for the comfort of the Azdgari. While the first patrol had been wiped out by now, other patrols from around the system had wound their way through the sparse asteroids and were converging on the 4 Warships and assorted escorts that had not participated in the main raid. By this time a group of 7 Zidaras and 26 Zidagar fighters had managed to interpose themselves along the shortest route of escape for the Azdgari.

Forming up in a loose three dimensional Phalanx the Azdgari ships charged straight for the Zidagar. All 22 remaining Aradas launched volleys of Dispersal Rockets at the Zidagar formation, not targeting any specific ships. When both of the battlegroups got within primary weapons range of each other the Aradas focused on the Zidagar fighters, while the Azdaras and Warships blasted the Zidaras. The Zidagar, however, weren't just going to go along mildly with the Azdgari plans. Launching volleys of Dispersal rockets themselves, the Zidagar concentrated their fire on two warships, destroying one, while the fighters concentrated on individual Aradas using their superior maneuverability and strong firepower to obliterate several in the first two minutes of the clash. After only 5 minutes, however, the Zidagar weren't able to keep the quick Azdgari in one place any longer. Breaking away from the fighting, 4 of the remaining 5 Warships formed a defensive formation around one of their heavily damaged brethren and began retrieving fighters, while the Aradas used their rear cannons to cover the retreat. Their mission complete, the Azdgari raiding party jumped out of the system.

Phase Burst Cannon/Turret
Description: Basic modification to the emitter matrix that fires a quick burst equaling about 3 times the normal rate of fire for a phase cannon, then recharges for an equal amount of time before it can fire again. When multiple cannons are used in conjunction they cover each other's recharge periods. (Note, this results in about +1.5 times standard rate of fire, unless I am mistaken)

The Warships all shot into hyperspace, three more exploding in the jump. All fighters turned and got out of the system as fast as the Warships.

OOC: While, I did state that I was going to retreat, I'd like to post that retreat myself. I appreciate you being courtious enough to give me the option of changing the end of your post. Don't get too mad at me for what I am about to do, I did give you a little bit of warning, although it was in code (remember that vauge mention of "Beta Directorate").

Moran Kal'hek was grim as he looked at the tactical display defore him. This weapon that the Igadzrans were deploying had devastated 3 of his Warships, and caught him completly by suprise. With a mournful sigh he turned to his communications officer, "Lieutenant, order all of our ships to retreat... then initiate Beta Directorate." At that several coded messages went out to the Azdgari ships and they began to move out of the system. Just before they jumped out, another coded message went out to the abandoned Station Realion.

The message was recieved by a concealed reception antennae where it immediatly set in motion a series of events that would end in one of the most devastating military actions in the history of the Strand Wars.

Seconds after the message was recieved, deep in the bowls of Station Realion, a cascading power feedback loop began within it's massive main reactor. Minutes later it was spiraling completly out of control, just as was intended by the Azdgari sabotours that had rigged the station only days before. Exactly 9 minutes after the Azdgari left the system, Station Realion exploded in a huge explosion that plunged the space around it into a firey hell. The Igadzran fleet, which had been moving back towards the station was caught completly by suprise as a massive nova like shockwave washed over them, followed quickly by cruiser sized pieces of the destroyed station. Almost every Igadzran fleet in the system was shredded in a matter of seconds by the energy released by the explosion combined with an entire space station of shrapnel. After the shockwaves had passed, only 1 Igazra and 2 Igadzran Aradas had survived, of these ships, only the Igazra survived the jump to hyperspace, the Aradas hulls too damaged to withstand the speed required to make the jump.

Battle Results
Station Realion is destroyed, along with all of the Igadzran fleet but one Igazra.

SRL News Service
Today marked the opening of Station Lekater, the station marking its activation by firing its weapons across Tibidats atmosphere, creating a spectacular show for the League citizens.

With the annihilation of the Renagade forces that once plagued the area, the fleet has been recalled to Station Lekater for repair and refit. Admiral Ilither, Naval Chief, announced that the Navy would not sit idle for longer than was needed, but would ensure all strandless in the south tip were safe from harm.

----

Internal R &D; Report
With the completion of the dispersal rocket box launcher, naval advisers have mentioned a serious lack of long range weaponry, the pursuit missile being good only at short range. While the SAD is availible for use, tacticians have advised that it is serously lacking, and that perhaps new methods should be looked into.

Taking this into advisement, work has begun on a new delivery system which should provide a short term replacement, and give the Leagues scientists a better background in the needed technology.

Zidagar Homeworld Naval HQ
Nivad had been thinking of an attack of the <classified> strand for a while now. Having met with other leaders of the Zidagar, they formulated an assault against <classified>. Right before they were to send the attack party, the protocol droid walked into the meeting room.
"I'm afraid I have bad news," started the droid in its mechanical, expressionless voice, "We have news of a raid in the Fluron system. 80% of the chemical industrial plants have been all but destroyed. A large amount of industrial goods were stolen as well."
Nivad knew at once who was behind the attack. Azdgari. While the losses suffered were pretty bad, the attack on <classified> must not be postponed or canceled.
"While these losses have been disastrous, I say we not forget all the planning we have gone through on this attack. I say we still commence the attack. All in favor: stand."
All but one of them stood.
"Motion for the attack stands. We will now call in the forces for attack."
They put together the assault force, and sent it off to the <classified> system. That night Nivad had thought of an idea that could help raise the defense/offense of the zidaras. He would have the fighter bay in the zidara enlarged to hold five z fighters, instead of just two. This would help on any future attacks, and increase the defense of regional space. He called in the head scientist and engineer, and told them of his plans. They said it would be possible to do. They gave him the date it would be completed, and that all zidaras after the upgrade would be standard with that bay.

Saga of the Guild: Chapter 13

Station Pybin

The Grand Meeting Chamber was filled with all the top personnel of the Miranu science community. Sitting at the head of the conference table was Researcher Lelos Somm, who would be returning shortly to resume his administrative duties back on Mira. But first, he had much more pressing and exciting business to attend to.

"The prototypes of the Ra -class Gunship and the Sokar -class Carrier have been completed. Engineer Aenig, give us a rundown on the future of our production facilities," suggested High Councilor Somm.

"Researcher, the Supreme Admiral has assured me that the fleet has already acquired permission from the High Council to set aside adequate resources to begin mass producing these warships. As we speak, our main shipyards are busily making the first battlegroup of the Miranu Defense Fleet."

Cheers and applause erupted across the room. All the room's occupants' efforts had finally paid off. Soon they would be dismissed, and they would take a short reprieve in the local bar before returning to their new assignments.

"Scientist Loeugith, I have been told you have a new idea for our research efforts to be directed towards. Our other two steering committees are already occupied with designin the Zidagar Missile Arada and the Lightninghammer missile for our own fleets' usage," the Researcher reminded the Scientist. He then gestured in his direction to denote his permission to speak.

"I believe that we should investigate the uses of a starship stealth field. I will fill you in on the details later, Researcher, as the main plans are still in my office," Scientist Loeugith admitted with some embarrassment. Rarely was he caught unprepared at a meeting such as this. Polite chuckles were scattered across the room.

"Very good, Scientist. I deem this goal sound. Now, let us rejoice on our accomplishments, then return to our respective duties. The Star League still requires our devotion," added Researcher Lelos Somm as he filed out with his colleagues.

===========

Mira Orbit

All around the pristine Miranu homeworld, the normally peaceful freighter-making shipyards were now busily constructing strange new starship superstructure designs. One of them rang strongly of a Miranu courier chassis, while the other looked deceptively like a Miranu heavy freighter at first glance. In fact, they were being built in conjunction with freighters and heavy freighters as well, and this pattern was repeated across the Star League as the Miranu Defence Fleet was born.

Supreme Admiral Shek Sunrunner turned to his great friend and loyal soldier, General Shokk. "Tell me General," said the Admiral amiably, "what do you think of our new freighters?" The Admiral laughed loudly at his own joke, and General Shokk politely joined in. The Admiral noticed the brief hesitation in his friend. "Oh come off it Shokk," he ordered. "Can't you ever have a sense of humor?"

"I am incapable of laughter while our enemies remain strong and unopposed, Supreme Admiral," stated Shokk simply.

Ah well, thought Shek Sunrunner, perhaps the old soldier is right.

"Very well, General Shokk. You will help me lead the first battlegroup to remedy that deplorable situation in four galactic standard weeks."

"Aye sir."

Station Pybin Research Directorate:

Research: NPD ( Complete ) (OOC: I will post later today to explain the beginnings of its usage.)

Research: Miranu Cloaking Device: The MCD works on the principle of a one-way cloak. Namely, the Miranu cannot be seen nor detected by enemy vessels and sensors, but the Miranu still have the ability to use sensors to see outside the cloak. Extensive research will allow weapons to be fired from the ship while it is under cloak. The downside is that the cloak drains fuel, and once all of a vessel's fuel is consumed, the cloak suddenly deactivates. (Begun: 12/6/02) (End: 12/13/02)

Project: Zidagar Missile Arada design
Standard Arada Chassis
Weaponry:
2 Pursuit Missile Launchers: 15 Pursuit Missiles
3 Phase Cannons
(Begun: 12/6/02) (End: 12/9/02)

Project: Lightninghammer Missile: Utilizing the recently acquired plans from the Zidagar, the missile will be based on the following design. A pursuit missile chassis will be equipped with the Miranu-modified warhead, keeping the same speed and accuracy as the original missile at the cost of increased mass. It can still be fired from the standard pursuit missile launcher. It will weigh 2 tons and causes both moderate shield and armor damage. (Begun: 12/6/02) (End: 12/9/02)
