Golden Horizon - Part IV

A massive group of ships suddenly left the Innirain system, about 25,000. All fighter attack was devoted to all capital ships, the capitals tok on the fighters. A command was sent and all Edien fighters, to group up 20 fighters to a warship and launch a barrage of missiles, and that they did. The fighers suddenly swerved under all remaining enemy capitals and attacked the backside at now 30 fighters to a capital. And on it went, adding 10 or so fighers to the groups until there were only a few hundred capitals left. All fighers averted thier fury to the enemy fighters taking them one on one with lasers (they had very little missiles left.)
-------
In Threefrog, the ships that left Innirain came out weapons blazing. The same menuver as before was preformed except that help of the fighters attack other fighters.

"Are you sure the powers off?"

However, the 13th fleet (composed of 25,000 vessels) and the 17th Fleet from Notil (10,000 ships) were ready for the Ediens. They charged back with ferocity, catching the Ediens off guard and slaughtering hundreds of them. The Ediens recovered, but were being blasted back by Federation forces. The 13th Fleet fought with extreme ferocity after the raid on Gadzair which had beat them up badly.

Meanwhile, the 7th Fleet was having little difficulty in dealing with the Ediens. With 25,000 ships gone, leaving only 35,000 ships (10,000 more reinforcements had arrived), the 95,000 Federation ships purely slaughtered the Ediens. Once the fleet was almost dealt with, Scorcher sent a message to the 15,000 ships from the 13th, ordering them back to Threefrog.

The last Ediens fought to thier death. At last they were all killed. Back in Threefrog, the Ediens had just managed to get about 1000 ships out alive. The
ediens began to stock up forces in Agrazi, ready to spring into action. By this the fleet was named the Ared'meers. In the Edien language it ment "Bringers of Death". Among this fleet was the Dreadnaught itself.
---------
At the northernmost part of the Milky Way, all ships had come down to attack the Miranu rebiulding. It was only a matter of a few days before the fleet had over 100,000 ships...

------------------
"Are you sure the powers off?"

SilverDragon had left the battlefield, leaving the IGNA to Sans Lavore to control. Meanwhile, upgrade convoys moved to Ikrahd, with the designs for the new SAI modules. With easily twice the range and a minor upgrade on strength, bringing them to par with SAV modules, they were one of the premier long range weapons in the refugee galaxy.

Emperor SilverDragon handed in his official resignation at the Gateway, making one last speech. Then, totally in secret, he prepared a small fleet of Stargliders and near-ancient Miranu couriers and made his way carefully, untraced, to the warpgate that led back to refugee's home - the battlefield where the Federation and Voinians were locked in combat with the Ediens.

Looking down on the project planner before him, SilverDragon frowned. The plans were perfect, even to his eye, but it would be difficult, and it might be the last time he saw his people.

The Igadzra Xenobiological Defence Research Project, the IXD.

The only question now was - would the Federation help fund it?

--------------------------------------

NSI-8211 was abandoned, almost totally. A few Akrahd destroyers patrolled the system - no more than usual uninhabited Akrahd patrol fleets. When two magnificent golden battlecruisers - the Templar and the Defender - leap into the system, there was no question of the victory.

The destroyers were swallowed under a barrage of newly prepared SAI modules. They fired faster, more accurately, and more importantly, at an astonishing range. The destroyers were incinerated then by the battlecruiser's weapon's fire. Signals to Akrahd commands were impossible, there was not enough time.

The system's stellars were wiped, and at Sans' orders, were made impossible to colonise in the future by huge amounts of weapon's fire, venting of gas believed poisonous to the Akrahd, and so on.

When they were done, the Templar and Defender made their way back to Ikrahd, the IGNA training base.

Meanwhile, thirty IGNA vessels were securing a similar victory in the Skrahd system.

The major battle, for now, however, took place in Akrahd Minor.

---------------------

Five new Igazras came in with the weapon's convoy carrying new SAI modules and the upgrade specs for the launchers, meeting with the eighty or so ships that had not gone out to Skrahd and NSI-8211.

Those ships moved to Akrahd Minor, where reports suggested only fifty ships were defending.

The eighty five Igadzra vessels struck quickly with surprise, numerically superiority, and technological superiority. There would be little contest, but it was still a fairly major battle.

However, the barrage of SAIs wiped out half the Akrahd fleet effortlessly.

The battle would be short, and marked.

And Akrahd Minor was to become a new strike base.

IGNA Projects
Turbophase, Dreadnought construction, SAI --- completed.

Beginning new project...

#1
Construction of the Citadel, a defensive station to be ported to Akrahd once complete. Will be the centre of IGNA operations in the area. Armed with 25 turbophase turrets and a number of exclusively SAI silos, it will be easily capable of defending itself and supporting the IGNA armada.

Time until it will be ready to port to Akrahd: 10 posts

#2

Zidagar uprising...logistics suggests moving in and annexing their space after they have fought their main battle. Logistics suggests the capturing of their phased beam technologies and upgrading with turbophase capabilities to make the "Turbo Phasebeam", to replace existing thoron beams.

Cannot begin

-Message to Sladerei-
-From Horoth Union-
The major problem at the moment appears to be getting enough power to get the wormhole to reach between galaxies, as well as staying open and supporting enough mass to go through. In our capital system, we would have the power to supply, we do not recomend traveling their. Instead we suggest sending a single ship through first, one with the ability to absorb large amounts of damage. We have not seen those who call themselves the Horosk for a long time, and if they have been besieged by the Ediens, we expect they will not be welcoming initially. Our first response to the arrival of other races to our current home was one of hiding away, since our only other contact for many years had been with the Akrahd, who are not friendly. The Horosk are in the same situation, albiet worse due to the Ediens.

A single ship should be sent through, with the wormhole to open at the same place shortly after, allowing it to return. The power requirments would be far less, as well as ensuring that your ship, the Saviour is safe.
-Message Ends-

OOC:Carnotaur suggested this was the best way, so ahead we go
--------
In RA space, Horoth minelayers continued to lay their fields, weaving a web around RA space, ensuring the Pirates would not get through.

The Horoth fleet, because of the plite of the RA, has begun a sweep of the space north of its space. While the chances of finding Pirate bases are slim, the Pirates will be vunerable in space. Mines would also be dropped into hyperspace links, causing trouble for any Pirates to follow. No toher gov would be in this part of space, and in any case, they would be warned.

OOC: Oops. And this. šŸ™‚

(From Emperor Tasina, Adzgari High Command)
(To SilverDragon, Igadzra Command)

The Zidagar Isolationists have begun to attack other Zidagar colonies. We must act to stop them. While you have few ships, you have superb technology, and I believe you would be a great asset in an assault on the Isolationists. If you wish to talk, we can set up a videoconference. I have also sent a message to Rima of the Miranu, and await your response.

The message was finally answered by the Council of the IAC.

(From the Council, IAC, Igadzra)
(To Emperor Tasina, Azdgari)

IGNA is busy in part of Operation Proving Grounds, against the core of the Akrahd itself. For now, they cannot make any action against the Zidagar rogue factions. However, you are easily capable of covering that.

However , the ITA are organising some diplomatic actions in that area. Please hold, being redirected...

(President Heraphar of the Igadzra Trading Authority)

We are organising a large convoy of supplies, escorted at the moment by ten Stargliders armed with Igadzra military technology. Please rendevous with this convoy in the NSI-838 system - we need some extra protective forces.

We'll take care of the situation, thank you.

(end message)

And the ITA were indeed doing that, and the convoy was almost prepared. No-one knew what was on the freighters, though.

Word from IAC funding showed that funds were seriously low, especially with IGNA constructing a station. The ITA put in a note to the IAC, suggesting that after the IGNA's two project agenda, the ITA be given heavy funding for colonisation.

Nobody had responded. We'll just have to do this alone, thought Emperor Tasina. He was at a Council meeting, deciding what to do about the Zidagar Civil War.

He spoke: "We will begin assembling an armada to put down the fighting in Titan. We can also recapture Bokac and Kedan fairly easily, and maybe should do that first. Get to work!"

As the battle raged for Titan, the Isolationist forces (which occupied approximately 1/3 of Titan Prime) dug in and prepared for the possible Rebel invasion...

Meanwhile, the Loyalists were gaining strength. Though militarily weak, they could recover quickly using their superior industrial skills. To combat this, the Isolationist sent 45 ships to the Omahr system to try and capture it. It was a moderate sized industrial port and had some shipyards the Isolationists needed.

The initial battle went bad for the forces of Arcturus. They were beaten back, but regrouped. However, by the time they charged again, the Loyalists had retreated, and left a smoldering Omahr in their wake.

The Loyalist ships retreated to Yori, which was one of the strongpoints the Loyalists were trying to hold, along with Ruvar and Makatee. Coya was having extreme riot problems, and thus was pretty much abandoned by the Loyalists, leaving it to a Rebel patrol fleet which stumbled upon it.

"Attack Pattern Zulu 5; NOW!!"

The line of Isolationists charged at the Rebel fleet. Then, they launched several large, grey objects at the rebels, then headed back the other way. The objects were fearsome weapons; space mines. The Zidagar had very few, only 50 of them, and all were stored on Bokac never to be used again. In fact, the Zidagar never had ANY until the Voinians gave them some to help run from the Ediens.

The space mines (10 of them) floated through space and detonated in the middle of the Rebel fleet, taking down many a Rebel ship as well as some Isolationist vessels that got too close. Though the maneuver had not turned the tide of the battle majorly, at least it had given the Isolationists time to regroup and charge an already weakened enemy...

**

However, ten space mines against the chaotic mass of the Rebels, mingled, seperated, did little damage. If they had formed ranks, it would have been chaotic to those ranks, but as it was, it was little danger.

The Rebel Zidagar ships charged back, but not in a line. Organised artillery fire couldn't hit a moving reef like that very well, so the Isolationists were better off moving into a similar reef and taking out targets individually.

end message sequence.

Helena then studied the ships charts, They were now building more Miranu Warships. Soon the fleet would be comprised of equal parts, from the heavy warships, to the sleek fighters. She nodded her head. Soon they would be ready, soon they would be ready to fight.

The Isolationists, realizing that they had to retreat, decide to try and retreat. While about 1/3 of the fleet remained to keep the Rebels busy, the rest of the fleet just turned around and ran. Once they were far enough away from the planet, they engaged hyperspace engages, and zoomed out. The rest of the fleet did what it could to escape, but it took severe damage and not many ships escaped.

However, their forces on Titan were well entrenched, and because of a certain kind of radiation found on Titan Prime, orbital bombardment was out of the question due to extreme innaccuracy. The Rebels would have to come in and do the bloody job with land troops instead...

Meanwhile, Lars was continuing to gain power. His secret army was amassing somewhere within his own personal Pirate kingdom. Where they would strike, no one knew...

Research continued on both the Federation Juggernaught and the new wormhole generator for the Sladerei and Horoth. Carnotaur, before his return to Mira, had also authorized the beginning of work on a new, devastating type of weapon; shockwave missiles.

The battles for Threefrog and Innirian had been costly, but the Federation had still won, and achieved a major victory, for now all of Igadzra space was now; liberated.

If you like the economy report and just dislike the way it works, please state how you think that it could be fixed.

--------------

Now that Innirian and Threefrog were in Federation control, Carnotaur was hoping to soon capture the Gadzair system. Gadzair would be a vital step-off point for invasions into both Azdgari and Zidagar space.

Carnotaur, Scorcher and Johnson all knew that it would be a hard fight. Gadzair would be heavily fortified and ready for an attack. To combat this, the Federation would be throwing an EMENSE amount of ships into the effort. The fleets that would engage would be; the 7th - lead by Scorcher, the 13th - lead by Admiral Johnson, the 29th - lead by Firebird, and the 101st - lead by Firestorm (Firebirds brother).

As preparations continued, work on Mira progressed slowly but steadily. The Federation and Voinians had set up a massive defense line around Mira, to protect against Edien incursions which were growing in size and strength.

Meanwhile, on Mira itself, the time had come and everyone was evacuated from the surface. Once everything was ready, the Voinians and Federation commenced the operation. Firing special torpedoes and warheads into the atmosphere, and then detonating them all at one exact moment, the Federation started a special thermolitic chain reaction in the atmosphere. About half an hour later, the reaction was complete, and over 1/3 of Mira's atmosphere was cleaned up.

The next day, after 3 more thermolitic reactions, people were let back on Mira. Now, almost seven years after Mira was devastated, sun show through the blackened clouds once more...

Of course, the job was not over yet. As Carnotaur and Rima continued to work on Kenra, the Federation was working closely with the Kayans on their new water filtering technologies. And, although sun could shine down onto the surface of Mira, a total of 7 more thermolitic reactions had to be done in order to clean up the atmosphere and make it colonizable.

The Voinians proved especially useful in getting rid of all the garbage that was being produced. A total of 500,000 tons of debris had been collected in and around Kenra from wreckage and building demolisioning (sp?). The Voinians simply brought in a series of fusion reactors which used up the garbage (for fuel) and created large amounts of energy for the cleanup operation.

The Akrahd in Akrahd Minor charged the Igadzra, full speed and weapons ablaze. However, after only minutes, the Akrahd commander knew that they could not win. So, in a last blaze of glory, the Akrahd fleet rammed the Igadzra, causing heavy damage to their fleet and destroying several ships...

OOC: I'd like to do my own economy reports, if you don't mind. You know I'm fair, and you can moderate on them if you want.

------------------------

The time had come. IGNA had prepared for the major attack, the last part of Operation Proving Grounds.

Fourty ships were gathered in Akrahd Minor, fourty in Ikrahd, and fourty in Skrahd. The Templar was in Ikrahd, and the Defender had moved to Skrahd. Weapon's convoys had been almost completed depleted of SAIs, with about 75% SAI for this battle. After that, only a few SAIs would be on IGNA ships, and SAEs would slowly be filtered out completely.

Battle songs were being sung, and from the Igadzra, that said something. This was the most dangerous fight they would engage in, perhaps for decades, or even hundreds of years. Even seemingly impossible fights against Zidagar armadas in years gone by had not been like this.

An Izar squadron flew through dangerous contours on Ikrahd's surface, training. Weapon's convoys were replaced with troop convoys, and Ikrahd was bustling with activity. The entire operation had cost the Igadzra Union fifty million credits, and now they could not even afford new freighters. Not until the operation had ended, at least.

Fleets took their last training exercises, pilots took their last "last drink", and then the final leg of Operation Proving Grounds began.

-----------------------------------

"Sir!" a logistics officer shouted, coming onto the bridge of the Templar.

Sans didn't turn round. He continued gazing as the stars seemed to sweep by in hyperspace. "Yes?"

"We'll all be entering the Akrahd system in fourteen minutes, en counting. Long range scans estimate a large number of energy buildups. Hundreds of starships, huge buildups of energy, etc." the officer stated.

Sans sighed. "Begin warming up the adaptive salvo launchers, and thoron beams. Make sure we're ready for this. Hmm...how long until the troop transports enter the system?"

The officer frowned. "Four hours from now. Let's hope we've won by then."

"And if we lose, god have mercy on them," Sans whispered.

---------------------------------

The three pronged assualt began instantly. Hundreds of SAIs were quickly fired at astonishing range, which wreaked havoc among the 500 Akrahd ships in the system.

This was the most costly part of the battle already, for the Akrahd. Y-Charge, it was called, as the three forces charged from three directions, like a Y. Akrahd ships were torn apart, and their mostly slow reactions gave the Igadzra a quick advantage.

An Igazra fell to missile turrets on stellars, and instantly the fleet broke out, sending lower ranged SAEs to fire at them, and turning quickly to meet the Akrahd horde.

Heavy damages had been caused against the Akrahd, but most of the SAIs had already been fired - 60% of the modules, 75% of which were SAI.

Although near on a hundred Akrahd were destroyed compared to only a dozen or two of the Igadzra, that next stage of the battle, before the Igadzra could reform, would be disatrious.

The faster Akrahd ships got the better of them, and it didn't take IGNA logistics to tell that they were in trouble.

All was silent in the night of Kayia, save for the occasoinal commontion or ship blasting off. All about people were going off to bed after a late night while others were up late at night. All of a sudden, there was a great burst of sound as dozens of ships simultaneously started lift off procedures. It came from the spot that had been reserved for the Kiran reserve warships within Kayia's system, nearly two hundered in all. To those that were close they could see many dozens of ships launch skywards, their atmospheric thrusters glowing brightly in the dark. With a great burst of light, they left the veiw of observers and thrusted into space. To those with accute eyesight, people could see distant lights open in the stars above to become jump points to slipstream and hyperspace. In the morning it would be noted that all Kiran ships were gone.

"I may detest what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Voltaire

It was yet another weekly Militia breifing, and more bad news awaited Militia Commander Lasin as he entered the room. The Kayan Militia regularly kept tabs on affairs throughout the known galaxy, and classified systems according to the affairs there. The number of systems classified as "normal" was steadily decreasing, and the number labelled "Massive War Zone" or "Disaster Area" was growing by the week. After several reports on military readiness and training, as well as a popular opinion report and an update on the political makeup of the senate, Commander Lasin stood to speak.

"As you all know," he began, "We're living in a dangerous galaxy these days. Two years ago there were no wars, no battles - even a pirate rade was a rare occasion. Now almost every major race in this galaxy with the exception of ourselves are in conflict with another. The violence is spreading, and there may soon be nowhere left to escape it. Though we may never choose to join the battles that rage in our galaxy, the day may come when we have no choice - when the battles are brought to our doorstep. We must be prepared to defend ourselves. That is why I am proposing this new military project, which I trust the senate will pass in short order."

Lasin stopped speaking long enough to bring up an image on the viewscreen along the far wall of the room. It looked like a small metallic sphere, not unlike the sattelites the Kayans had first launched when the space age began. The schematics, though, showed it was far more than that.

"Behold, the Planetary Defense Drone," Lasin said, obviously proud of the project he had been working on for several weeks time. "You'll notice it has no engines - only rudimentary maneuvering thrusters. This means, of course, that it will be immobile once placed in orbit. But it doesn't need to move to defend us from our enemies." Lasin brought up a schematic listing it's weapons and shields capabilities. "It will be modestly armored but incredibly well shielded - since there is no need to provide room for engines, we have much more additional room for shield generators. It's targeting capabilities will be exceptional since it is stationary - as you are all aware it is only half as difficult to calculate a weapon trajectory when one of the ships is stationary than when both are moving. Here are a list of the schematics for you to review."

New Project - Planetary Defense Drone
Time to completion - 7 posts (though since I don't post as often as other people in this story, I'll let Carnotaur moderate on an appropriate period of time for what, in his judgment, would be about 7 posts time for an average player)

Statistics:
Max Speed - 2 (most asteroids can outrun it by a long shot), NO HYPERDRIVE (0 jumps range)
Maneuverability - 60 degrees per second
Armor - 30
Shield - 230
Weapons - 3 pursuit missile launchers, 150 pursuit missiles. 1 enhanced defense-pods launcher, 50 enhanced defense pods. 1 dispersal rocket launcher with 50 dispy rockets. 5 phase turrets.

(Keep in mind that it's incredible arsenal of weaponry is ofset by the fact that it is IMMOBILE. If you stay out of it's range, it can't hit you.)
