Bigger is...not so good

Okay, this is pretty obvious on one scale, because you can avoid enemy fire with a smaller ship, but note this:

I want to create a HUGE dreadnought, about 800:800 pixels. But if you think about, it won't be able to fire properly. No offset means that it's firing range is from the centre, and since the ship is longer than primary weapons range...oops.

Now, if we put the offset at the front, we can fire forwards, but not backwards.

This also leads to what I think it the Lazira/Igazra problem - why are they so long ranged? Simple. Offset at the front. Crescent Warships, I think, are actually better off turned the other way round to fire.

Wow, good point espy, never really thought about that before. Of course, a dreadnought could probably be powerful enough to not NEED primaries, and just have a lot of SAD's and P missiles, or even convert SAD or P missile launcher INTO a primary weopon, with the alliby that the dreadnought can produce it's own weopons.... it's possible that a 800x800 ship is big enough to have an outfitting dock, probably even a shipyard, now that would be cool... not possible because the Ammotype tag is the kind of fighter, but maybe in EV nova?

mmmmmm nova...

Exactly.

If you wanted a shipyard, make a bay that produces infinite of a ship type, over a long period. And maybe have a standard bay too.

It's the cosmic balance, Red. Zelda strips me of 1 karma, and gives it to Jess. Of course, we all worship Jess, so I'd gladly give her all my karma anyway, but Zelda was just trying to be helpful instead of causing us all lots of bother. 😉

PS: No insult intended, Zelda.

BWAHAHAHA! I've got more karma than yoo-ou! Just because you think I'm totallly useless doesn't mean I am you know

But the ship would be so big (800x800 "AHHH!" faints) wouldn't it bog the game down?

But, a moving shipyard WOULD be kewl.

Gah, I'm turning into Phoenix.

A ship that size would indeed slow the game down immensly- plus a spin resource for a ship that big would take up megabytes upon megabytes of memory. But it would be very neat.

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!
(Lies are in your head.)

There is a plugin that simply makes a human planet called Earth huge. Just for fun. Naturally, being a planet, it does not require a spin. Even so, it slows the game down a great deal, unless you have a high-G3.

Remember that huge ships look very jerky when they turn. The Dreadnought is bad enough; the largest ships in F-25 (v1) really need 72 rather than 36 turn increments, ie five degrees per step, not ten.

Still, anything new is good, while we wait for Nova... Good luck with it, SilverDragon. Should be fun.

Well, it'll also probably crash EV... oops.

Don't you read the Bible?

DonÂ’t create a sprite grid that has more than 10 rows or columns (yTiles and xTiles both <= 50) because Override will puke. Similarly, donÂ’t create sprites that are wider or taller than the smallest screen size Override can use (640x480) because thereÂ’s not enough offscreen buffer room to load it all in.

That's the nice thing about ares, you can adjust ships so that they have the amount of turns they need.

You would have to be ignorant, derranged, demented, or dead to turn down the oppurtunity to fly an Azdara.

No, I don't read the Bible, either of them, and I'll be making sure the ship doesn't exceed the 640x480 viewscreen, thanks.

As for the jertiness, that's simple enough. I'll make it so that it's immobile, because quite simply, it'd be so slow anyway you wouldn't notice it moving. And it's not going to last very long.

I'll have to test it out -- but yes, it will need a higher power G3, and x10+ suggested memory. Luckily, I have the former and usually set the other anyway.

If you're trying to make plug-ins, that's a big mistake.

Yet.

Metaphorically speaking, I'm metabolically challenged.

If you equip the mega-ship with special versions of blaze/neutron/whatever, you can give the energy bolts a longer duration, so they will reach beyond the sprite.

Don't forget that you can use the turret offset property to site guns near the nose or tail of the ship, if that helps you. Besides which, ships get overflown all the time... even a weapon which doesn't reach beyond the bow of the ship could still shoot down an enemy fighter.

Yeah. What I'm going to do is offset at the front, giving the ship a fatal weakness, at the back, where's it's range is terrible. 🙂

I'm so sorry it happened. I should have done more...

Hrm I'm not sure how big that is, so just tell me, how long is a Crescent Warsip in the same units?
