In one of the less dangerous bars in the spaceport of Huron, shayborg and Starkiller sat at a quiet booth swapping stories of their smuggling days. Suddenly, the holovid, tastefully quiet until now, started screaming hysterically, interspersed by static from damaged communication satellites on the transmitting end. "... ... Governor ... Iothe speaking. ... are ... attack, ... under attack by ... ... pirate force! ... ... assistance!" The view of the governor's office cut to a hazy image of what was obviously a pitched battle in space.
As they watched, horrified, a clearly modified UE Destroyer started launching a seemingly inexhaustible supply of missiles from overloaded launchers in every direction. (This action is a desperation tactic used by many ship commanders under extreme threats. Missiles are fired from launchers before they are cleared of remnants of fuel and metal from the last launch (which normally causes the delay in "reloading"). The excess heat from the friction from debris in the launchers causes the missiles to overheat and explode before hitting anything, creating a much larger blast radius, but also running the huge risk of the missiles detonating before exiting the launch tube, which would definitely destroy the launcher and could possibly destroy the ship.) "What are they doing!" Starkiller shouted at the unheeding destroyer. "They're committing suicide!" As the shocked denizens in the bar watched, the destroyer rapidly took down the freight-couriers attacking it. The destroyer succeeded in taking down, singlehandedly, two dozen renegade vessels. Then, the inevitable occurred -- one of the launchers jammed, right under the engines. The destroyer's engines cut out as an automatic safety measure. They would never have a chance to override the shutdown in time, and the captain knew it. Shayborg and Starkiller watched as the destroyer self-destructed spectacularly, taking out two-thirds of the surprised renegade fleet with it.
The remaining UE ships had meanwhile retreated to the edge of the system to regroup, but they were outmatched. The two friends looked at each other back on Huron and nodded, both understanding that they needed to assist here to gain the UE's gratitude. Then they ran out of the bar to collect the ragtag members of the Spacer's Association -- Starkiller's navy.
In thirty minutes, they had left the surface of Huron. By overloading their hyperdrives, their 10 scoutships, 6 transporters, 12 shuttles, 2 modified freighters, 4 helians, and 2 freight-couriers jumped into Iothe in record time. Jumping in, they proceed to attack the remains of the renegades, with the assistance of the UE brigade, overjoyed at this sudden deus ex machina. Demoralized and unorganized, the renegades fled from the new threat.
From his "command vessel" (OOC: I'm not sure what type it is, so I won't put it in here), OctoberFost fumed. His attack had been profitable, but only for those few who survived, and getting in touch with them again would be very difficult now that they'd already gotten a significant amount of loot. Also, they would likely never want to stick their necks out for OF after this debacle. He had claimed some plunder on behalf of the "renegades", but not nearly enough to pay for the prototypes. Disgusted, he barked at his lieutenant, "Let's get out of here. It's over."

After the disaster at Iothe, it was clear that Freeport and its allies would need some kind of organisation, preferably better then "Lets all decide to go attack a large planet with powerful allies and depend on people we meet along the way to help us!"
Back in his office, OF looked at the casualities. Seven UE Destroyers destroyed, virtually all Renegade Vessles except 7 Helians, 3 kraits, 1 Cargo Transporter, and the shuttlecraft were lost. Not bad, considering most of the casualites were not based in Freeport, but had joined the attack of their own will. The greedy bastards probably wouldn't have given their share of the plunder to Freeport anyway, he figured.
By now, of course, news of the fall of Centauri had reached Freeport. OF smiled at the news. With a huge threat to Sol, there was no way any massive UE fleet was going to go on an offensive attack in the near future. More likey, they would be vigourous defenders.
OF pressed a button on his phone and got in contact with Ian. "Call another meeting of Renegade Leaders, and get me the representative from Profit Enterprises..."

In his cabin, Aben Zin was sat on the bunk. All that Skyblade said... It didn't make sence. Did he really feel that way? If he was telling the truth, Zin had serious doubts as to his future. One of the main charactoristics of a dicator was an intense paranoia. If Skyblade really was known as a threat to the Emperor, however slight, then he was without doubt being monitored, and the Emperor would probably not be amused. If so, why should Skyblade tell all this to him? It was tantamount to suicide. If, however, the Emperor knew about that little chat... Either way, the attack on Earth would soon be underway. That much was clear. And he'd be Damned if he had to sit back and watch...

The above post can be concidered "Parlez vous sans mon derreire" As the french probably wouldn't say.
Meanwhile, at Freeport, the Renegade leaders began to arrive. Large guns were being mounted at the top and bottom of the station, and something -- Profit and OF weren't saying -- was going on in the shipyards.
Finally, the renegade leaders met. In a small room in the middle of the station, 10 of the most feared renegades and intersolar organised crime figures met. There was OctoberFost, Iothe Ian, Gorky Gavin, Huron Jose, Yaroslava the intersolar drug lord, and representatives from Frontier Express, Profit Enterprises, and several smuggling rings.
OF started the meeting. "We are here today to organise the human enemies of the UE and those who wish to help them, and make it easier for us to organise and execute such operations. Between us all, we have enough funds to build fleets and fleets of warships, and enough power to get any non-suicidal "renegade" to follow our orders. Who is with me?"
Everyone noded.
"Very well! Today marks a new begining for the human enemies of the UE! They will fear the, um, drat...we need a name. Any ideas?"
"How about the Pirates of Freeport?", someone said. "No," said a different voice. "The Captains of Piracy!". "That's stupid," yet another person said. "If we want people to fear us, we should be called the Silent EV'ers!" "Shut up, Bisrob!", someone replied to that.
"Aha!," OF said. "Lets combine the first two, and we can be the Captains of Freeport! Yes, that'll be our name, the Captains of Freeport...."

The news was grim. The Voinian Empire had just taken the Centauri system. Centauri , he thought. Mankind's first interstellar colony.
"Mine the jump point from that system, too," he told an aide.
"Aye, sir."
UE Patriot had walked around the offices of the United Earth Naval High Command, now virtually empty. In the emergency situation, all those who would usually be governemnt bureaucrats were, in a sense, "drafted" and made emergency soldiers, in case the regular ones would fail.
Plans were made for an evacuation. If Earth were to fall to the Voinians, the UE Parliament, the MPs' families, and the UE Naval High Command would retreat to Paaren. Already a defense station was being built in the Valos system.
Patriot has also ordered a blockade around New Prussia in the Tulir system, so that a Voinian advance would be slowed.
As for right now, the members of Parliament were in a hidden undisclosed location.
As are my wife and kids , Patriot thought as he remembered his family.
(My character's married - not me. )
As the Prime Minister looked out the window, Vice Admiral McPherson announced that the jump point from Centarui had been mined.
"Good. Any other news."
"Yes. A mercenary by the name of spl_cadet called you recently. Since you did not responed, he decided to tkae matters into his own hands, and is currently located in the asteroid belt."
"Good. We need all the help we can get. Speaking of the belt, what about the fighter squadrons in there?"
"They're there, but nobody knows it. Our asteroid bases are able to hied the fighters well, and the fighters themselves have been fully armed and fueled, but the bases lack starport facilities, so they'll avoid detection."
"Good. We'll give them a nice surprise," he said as he and McPherson ran off to their respective warships.
If there ever was a time that the entire human reace waited in aprrehension, it was now. People were praying - St. Peter's in Rome, the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and the Great Mosque in Mecca were jam-packed with crowds. Millinos of others prayed, some preparing for martyrdom. All military personnel had been called on duty, and all bases went to red alert. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens who for some reason avoided the draft grabbed whatever gun, knife or any other weapon they could get their hands on in order to defend themselves, their families, and their property. Sol was ready for war.
Then, early one morning (Earth time) a large fleet of gray ships jumped into the Sol system.
The Battle of Sol had begun.
=====
Remember that either Voinian fleet (the one in Eltor or the one in Centauri) will be running nito a minefield, so expect high casualties there. (It'd describe that scene, but I don't want to ruin the drama of the post by stopping it in the middle of the battle.) Oh, OF, we do have rockets, we got them from the captured Voinian Frigate a while back (and Hunter Missiles are basically gided rockets, minus a little bit of punch.)
God bless,

The days between the founding of the Captains of Freeport organisation and the Battle of Sol were very profitable for the new Renegade Organisation.
Freighters fleeing south from the Voinians only ran into the Renegades. Spoils which would have been kept by independent Helian crews were shared with the Captains, and they were making daily profits in excess of what huge raids used to get them.
A few days before the Voinian's arrival in Sol, OF had called Profit Enterprises, and the ammount of workers in the Freeport shipyards was increased by several hundred. Something big was on the way, apparently.
OOC: I'm assuming that the Iothe battle took place several days before the battle of Sol because I really need to catch up on alot of this : And OF, if since the rockets are used by the UE, the battle above Iothe might have been a bit more in favor of the Brigade with less Destroyers destroyed. ---------------------------- After the battle above Iothe Prime, ESPilot had ordered the brigade to land and get the repairs, and then set a course for Ariane. As they entered the Huron system, an ensign came up to him and said "Sergeant Major sir, we just received word that Centauri has fallen to the Voinians, and they are said to be preparing for a direct assault on Earth itslef!" ESPilot said over to intercomm to the rest of the captains "Ok 12th Brigade, we lost seven fellow captains back at Iothe with the Renegades, but these Voinians will be probably ten times stronger. We can't expect to come out alive, but we fight for our race. All Destroyers set a course directly for Sol."

Though they had been victorious without losing a single ship, the new Huron Militia Forces pilots held very subdued celebrations on their return to their home base. News of the devastating attack on Centauri had come in while they had been out, and there had also been rumors of some loose renegade organization led by the self-styled "Captains of Freeport" that had been ravaging the space lanes. Starkiller and shayborg both knew that going after this shadowy group was a futile exercise; all they could do was defend their home system. Leaving home to defend other systems or helping fight the Voinians would just leave Huron vulnerable and probably be suicidal anyway. Still, they managed to keep the space near Huron relatively clear of renegades, earning themselves the nickname of "10-second militia" in the process because of their amazingly fast response times. At all times, some of the HMF pilots were waiting in their ships, which made for very fast launches. If not for the excitement of these small battles -- chasing off an aggressive helian or two; swatting one of the new cheap, weak little fighters that the renegades seemed to be fond of these days; or one of those rare treats, a small raid on nearby Troub and destroying the several renegades that always frequented the area -- the HMF pilots would have died of boredom. As it was, they still didn't have too much to do ...
OOC: Um. It seems that this portion of the story is pretty much over, unless OF plans a raid on Huron or something ... We're a militia unit, we can't come out and fight outside our home systems.
Keep in mind that completing the Battle of Sol could take a few topic pages, so feel free to be detailed with any battle posts related to Sol.
Patriot- I don't have time at the moment to post anything related to the Battle of Sol, so I'll make a post based on the moments before the Voinians launch the offensive.

The comm operator aboard the Triton Corsair seemed pleased with what he was hearing. "Sir," he spoke up, "Admiral Ry'sern reports that the 92nd warfleet division is prepared and mobilized for the attack. He has also been joined by the 23rd warfleet, and the 19th warfleet is currently on its way to join us (both of these warfleets were previously based at Dogover)."
"Very well," Skyblade said in his usual response. "The great offensive against the human capital will be underway within a few hours."

Blaring klaxons went off left and right, and a panicked voice came over the loudspeakers: "Vonian ships have entered the system, Vonian ships have entered the system! All fighter squadrons, to your stations, all fighter squadrons, to your stations!" With that, Azdara Ace and his reunited squadron ran towards the fighter hanger, ready to cause some serious damage!

Pyotr-The lone ex-XO
Location: Interrogation room, another faceless Voinian Cruiser
===
The Voinian Soldier had escorted him to the ship's interrogation room. They had been a little less nasty to him, because he volountarily admitted information. "What are you going to tell us?" one soldier barked. "Vell, ah, de UE's Desta-royerrs have a, ahh, vent-type ting ovver near de, ahh, enginnes." He lied. "Ahh, haha. This will reap rewards when I tell my commanding officers!" "Vell, I vouldint bee so shore..." Pyotr said under his breath.
Suddenly a HUGE explosion rocked the ship, as they exited hyperspace into the Sol system. Pyotr couldn't hear the engine running. The ship destruction klaxon started wailing away. "Arrgh! Damn those UE's! Mines!" Pyotr slipped away when the idiotic Voinian wasn't looking. He rushed around, and in the commotion, noone noticed him. He found an escape pod cluster and hopped into one. he blasted out of the Cruiser. "Thiss ber-ings back old memorries," He thought.
------------------ What signiature? Ohhhhhhhhhhh...
Autonav 6000- Voinians aren't quite that stupid you know.
The 92nd warfleet division, commanded by Admiral Riden Ry'sern, exited hyperspace. They had arrived in the Sol system at last, just south of earth. But something seemed wrong... Everything was quiet, and no United Earth ships were visable. The sensors, however, said something different.
"Sir," the sensors operator of the V.E.S. Dominant (Ry'sern's flagship) reported, "I'm detecting small figures on the radar, but they don't seem to be enemy vessels."
Ry'sern rose from his chair and carefully looked at the dark, deceptive space. Somthing is wrong, he thought. The humans are not stupid enough to bid us a silent welcome to their homeworld.
Suddenly, a violent explosian rocked the Dominant. Systems went offline for a brief moment, and alarms sounded. From the camera screens aboard the bridge, Ry'sern realized that the entire right wing of his cruiser had been torn off.
"Damage report!" He exclaimed, somewhat in panic. "What's going on?"
The sensors operator swiftly pulled up data on his screens. "It's seems as though we've been struck by a highly explosive projectile, but I can't say what typ-"
"Space mines!" Ry'sern cut in. "The humans have space mines! Get us out of here!"
As the 92nd warfleet division began to make a 180 degree turn, yet abother explosian tore a neutron turret off the Dominant. A frigate trailing the cruiser had its entire front section ripped off from tripple explosians, and several more warships were being rocked by the space mines. It was at this moment that the sensors operator aboard Ry'sern's flagship realized there were thousands of the small mines on radar, drifting freely.
The entire fleet was beginning to suffer from the well-planned trap. By the time the majority of the 92nd warfleet division had exited the mine field, 3 cruisers, 7 frigates, 2 supply ships, and 13 heavy fighters had been lost at the cost of gaining nothing. This is not a good way to start an invasion. Ry'sern whispered to himself.
Long range sensors revealed that the minefield was shaped like an oval, guarding the southern perimeter of earth. The 92nd began the process of looping around the mine field, and heading for earth.
"Send word to Admiral Skyblade," Ry'sern ordered his comm operator. "Be sure he knows the humans have our weapon, and have heavilly-mined the planned attack check points."
As the 92nd warfleet division finally completed the long task of circling around the mine field, and they set course for earth, which was barely visable with the naked eye. But it was still deathly quiet...
The entire bridge of the Dominant was silent. The officers went about there business. Ry'sern was getting uneasy. Where are the-
"Sir!" the sensors operator spoke in a loud voice. "Thousands of human vessels approaching. We've been ambushed!"
Outside the flagship, waves of UE Fighters attacked the 92nd warfleet from the sides. Such a sight had never been seen before: Human vessels could be seen as far as the eye could see, pounding the Voinian warships with their rockets and blaze cannons. Destroyers followed the fighters, and began to engage battle with the warships. The Voinians had been taken by complete surprise...
The Voinian Heavy Fighters immediately went to work. They knew they stood know chance in dogfights with their human counterparts, so they were deployed in groups of fifty. The mighty Battle of Sol had begun.
Many of the cruisers and frigates in the front line were immediately destroyed by the swarms of human fighters. Blaze fire was so heavy that it blocked out views of the warships at times. Frigates were seen exploding as they stood their ground, and cruisers simply couldn't provide enough neutron defense to stop the mighty fighter wave.
Voinian fighters swiftly took up position behind the shattering defense line. As hundreds of human fighters destroyed an additional three cruisers and seven frigates, the fighters of the 92nd warfleet division made their sharp counterattack. As the thin defense line of Voinian warships which had formed the defense line collapsed, the heavy fighters made their move.
Thousands of rockets raced toward the wave of human fighters. So large was the rocket screen that there was little chance of avoiding it. As UE fighters attempted to avoid the certain wave of death, hundreds of them were struck and thrust backward. UE fighters could be seen being hit by one rocket, then another, and another which often slammed them into other friendly vessels. Within the span of twenty seconds, the Voinians had easilly made up for the losses they had first received.
It was at this moment that an epic engagement between Voinian and UE fighters errupted. After the rocket screen had passed, taking hundreds of human fighters with it, vessels of both sides swarmed towards each other: immense firepower against manueverability. Voinian fighters could be seen exploding as UE fighters routed and destroyed them from behind, while Voinian fighters could be seen gaining up on squadrons and releasing nasty neutron fire and large numbers of rockets. The first stage of the Battle for Sol was underway (and I mean it when I say this is a huge battle between fighters. I'm talking about thousands against thousands).
More later. Lengthy battle posts get hard to read...
Current losses of the 92nd Voinian warfleet division 9 cruisers 17 frigates 4 supply ships 53 heavy fighters
Current losses of the United Earth defense fleet in Sol 8 destroyers 293 fighters
Skyblade, just a comment: Voinian fighters can't gain on UE Fighters. I think that's what you meant.
===========
Cheering erupted in the Emalgha underground bunkers. "They have attacked! The UE will destroy the Voinian forces. We will be freeeeeee!"
Miles away, through the tunnels, Mirtek was raiding the Askel research complex. His railgun was ripping its way through Voinian marines, and the commandos neutron rifles were doing the rest.
"Sh. I hear something." Mirtek had heard footsteps coming through the hallway. "Behind the pillars. Now!" The commandos jumped behind the numerous pillars in the room. In about a minute, seven Voinian marines entered the room, armed with neutron rifles. They were clearly searching for something. The Emalgha commandos leaped out and unloaded on the marines, who were destroyed at the cost of one Emalgha commando.
"They know we're here. We must be more careful."
Suddenly, an alarm sounded...
Tas and his Emalgha comrades were raiding a slave camp for more neutron rifles. They were almost at their objective, when they were ambushed by six marines. Only Tas and two others escaped, while destroying half of the marines. They continued down a different hallway, towards the armory...

Skyblade: I'm not talking of Voinians in general, just that greedy one in the interrogation room
Pyotr had to swerve around all sorts of hazards: asteroids, mines, and ships blasting away at each other. The little escape pod wasn't that tough...
---
A destroyer swooped down to the escape pod, much like the Voinian fighter did awhile back. Pyotr turned the engine down, so that the slower ship could catch up. The cargo bay opened, and the short-range tractor beam took the little pod in. The bay doors closed, and the beam set the pod down suprisingly gently. Pyotr popped the hatch open and climbed out. There was a highly celebratory mood, considering the condition outside. A senior UE officer came rushing over, and took Pyotr's hand. He started shaking it furiosly. "Ah, former Executive Officer Pyotr! You are the first person to see the inside of a Voinian Ship! Except for a one 'Aben Zin', a fighter pilot, but his wherabouts are not known. We all hope he makes it back. Your and his combined information about the inside of these ships may just help us win the war!" "But, Si--" "Now, now you probably need food and rest! You look like you're a skeleton!" He motioned to a junior officer to come closer. "Get this man to the sick bay!" "Yessir!" "But, but, ohh, neffer mynd." Pyotr said.
Azdara Ace could see the huge exlosions going off where the battle was commencing. '"Okay Red Squadron, keep tight formation, things are going to get a little rough. Just remember, whatever happens, stick together. We have strength in numbers!" "Roger that Red Leader." "Okay boys, hit full throttle, charge weapons to full." Red Squadron rocketed towards the battle, with hundreds of destroyers and thousands of fighers right behind them. On all communicators, the voice of one of the main admirals, Admiral Brown came on strong, "Brave fighters of the UE Navy, today, we face a threat like none before. Today, we are forced to fight for not only what we believe in, but for our right to live. It hits you pretty hard when you think about it, if the Vonians succeed, humanity will become a thing of the past. I don't know about you, but I sure won't let that happen!" "You heard him Red Squadron, let's go!" Azdara Ace was ready for battle, and ready for revenge.
REDchigh hears of the attack, and he recruits every decently armed ship around Saalia and the surrounding systems. The Freightors and most of the transports are loaded with many, many tons of Atomic exposives (picked up from the many elementary schools on the surface of saalia) His fleet then head towards Sol, but is engaged in Cantauri, and engages a voinian force there instead... The UE Shuttles manage to destroy several Heavy Fighters, and the UE fighters manage to wreck total havoc, a few UE freightors and transports collide with the Voinian cruisers, the Freight-couriers take out several frigates, while the UE destroyers of 2nd regiment.. well, we wont even GET into the amount of destruction they caused, and the Voinains were caught completely off guard.
2nd regiment- Normal fleet, plus 56 shuttles (with four blaze cannons each) 42 transports most of the Saalia defense fleet (40 fighters, 5 destroyers) 30 freight-couriers (with blaze, rockets, and a few with mines) 25 highly volatile UE freightors

Perhaps I should have simply said "destroyed?" Sure, Voinian fighters certainly can't catch their human counterparts, but the rockets and neutron beams certainly can...
Fighter squadrons continued to attack, fall back, and counterattack. Both sides were receiving heavy losses: The Voinian fighters for their lack of speed, and the UE fighters for their small amout of firepower (in comparison to Voinain fighters). The battlefield was becoming a dangerous place to operate, as many fighters were smashing into others. As time progressed, however, the battle spread outward, allowing more room for battle (but not for mistakes).
Ry'sern, whose cruiser had been spared during the UE fighter wave, conducted operations from the bridge. Many of his fighter squadrons had been totally destroyed, while others had not yet suffered any losses.
Since entering the battle between the great Voinian and human fighter would be suicide, the Voinian warships took to firing off neutron bolts at any enemy fighters that wandered to close. Rockets were being preserved, however. The United Earth destroyers were beginning to approach the great Voinian fleet...
"Why has Skyblade and the 17th not showed up yet?" Ry'sern asked himself quickly as he watched a heavy fighter destroy a UE fighter. "He should be here by now..."
And neither was the 17th warfleet division to be found in the Centauri system...

REDCHIGH- I'm afraid I'm going to have to void that last post of yours. The 17th warfleet division is no longer in the Centauri system (refer to my last post).
Also, your suicide attacks by numerous different crafts are rediculous. Since when do humans make such attacks? And even if these vessels are not controlled by crew, it just isn't a realistic thing for the United Earth to do. Try to keep this story consistent with the real Override story.
The Freight-Couriers and Helians of the 1st mercenary squadron hung back firing off every missile they had. As the target exploded, a frigate, they swarmed another. The intense blaze fire quickly destroyed it. Realizing that they would be no match for the Voinan forces if they were caught, the ships moved back into the asteroid field and hid behind asteroids, ready to ambush the voinan ships. Meanwhile the 400 Kraits, ambushed a large force of fighters, using their superior manueverability to stay behind them. Although the Kraits died easily, they took a heavy toll on the sluggish Voinan fighters before they too returned to hiding. Additional Voinan losses: 2 Frigates 235 Fighters Mercenary losses: 5 Helians 150 Kraits.
