When the Voinians Came...

The 12th Brigade exited from hyperspace into Iothe, an ally of the UE. Forunately, there were no renagdes around at the moment, making for an easy trip down to the planet. As they entered the atmosphere, ESPilot hailed the dockmaster, "Iothe Spaceport this is the United Earth 12th Destroyer Brigade requesting permission to land." and the reply came back quickly, "12th Brigade you are clear to land."

With the ships of the brigade landed, ESPilot let the captains lounge in the bar for a while, and he took his second-in-command and captain of the U.E.S. Jaguar, Aleks, to buy some rockets for the warships. They entered the shop and told the cashier what he wanted, and went to get some Saalian brandy at the bar while the outiftters loaded up the rockets and did some tune-ups on the ships.

Azdara Ace had made his descision, he would join Intel. Now all that was left to do was to say goodbye to Red Squadron, and appoint a new Red Leader. He was currently walking over to their quarters, and could see them moving around inside. He stopped a moment, and thought about whether or not he really wanted to do this. He loved all of his team like his own brothers, but he didn't want to feel responsible for losing more of them. "Azdara, snap out of it," he told himself. He stood up tall, and walked towards Red Squadron's quarters. As he opened the door, he could feel all seven pairs of eyes boring into him. "Uh, hi. I came here to inform you of something. I, uh, I uh, I'm leaving Red Squadron and joining Intel. I just don't want to have to feel responsible for the loss of more lives. Uh....Bill, I would like you to take command of Red Squadron. I, I uh, I want to keep in touch with you guys, and, I'll miss you. " After he finshed his sentence and waited about tens seconds, he left. He felt so bad about everything that he went to sleep without even eating. In his sleep, he had nightmares about the people in Red Squadron that had died. They were all of accusing him of giving up, and running away from his problems. He screamed out at them, "Leave me alone! It's not my fault, it's not my fault!"

Soon, a small Renegade Fleet was assembled at the Freeport dock.

There were 7 Helians, 3 modified cargo transporters (cargo space replaced with weapons space, with missiles and cannons), and 1 shuttlecraft.

As they were launching for Iothe, the representative from Profit Enterprises entered the vicinity.

"People, don't take off just yet. You have some people that want to join you!"

A door opened, and 4 small, white fighters appeared, with men inside them.

"Ladies and gentlemen," the Profit Rep said, "I present you with the Krait! These are four prototypes we assembled at our old plant and shipped here! Cheap to buy, easy to fly! These will join you on your quest!"

The Renegades and the Krait pilots talked about plans and exchanged some final words before taking off for Iothe.

7 Helians
3 Mod. Cargo Transporters
1 Shuttlecraft
4 kraits

Just 'cos the Emalgha didn't openly rebel until the battle of Sol, doesn't mean you can't have an Emalgha leader. A planet can't openly rebel without a great deal of preperation so why not start a revolutionary underground?

Stopping in the DSN system between Freeport and Iothe, the Renegade Fleet picked up 3 more Helians from a passing Renegade fleet, as well as a pledge that some freinds of the passing fleet would hyper in with us from different systems.

The fleet now consisted of 10 Helians, 3 Modified Cargo Transporters, 1 shuttlecraft, and 4 kraits. Not a massive fleet, but if there was no UE presence in Iothe at the time, just big enough to disable and board all traders within the system before the Iothe defense fleet got off the ground...

Several days later, the 12th Brigade launched from Iothe. As they were preparing for hyperspace into the next DSN system en route to Ariane, another small fleet of Renegades jumped into the system; 10 Helians, 4 Kraits, 3 visibly modified Transporters and a Shuttlecraft......

The two Voinian guards who had been escorting Aben Zin to Skyblade's quarters were still somewhat curious. The human prisoner was still laughing, and this came as a surprise. Shouldn't this human pilot be begging for mercy?

As Aben Zin was pulled off an elevator, he was quickly marched a few doors down the hall. After one of the soldiers had punched a few buttons, a nearby door opened. The guards ordered Zin into the room, and the door slammed shut behind him.

In the room, Zin was sure that this obviously wasn't a prison cell. The room was very spacious, and great pictures of Voinian warships engaging in battle were found all across the walls. There was a desk at the end of the room, and a chair with its back to him. A few seconds later, the chair turned and revealed the figure of a commanding Voinian officer.

"Have a seat," the Voinian said, pointing to a chair not far from the desk. "My name is Admiral Skyblade, and I've been curious to see this captured human pilot my commanders have spoken of."

Zin, a bit surprised at the Voinian's hospitallity, sat down in the seat. "Yes, I guess I'm the one you've heard about," Zin replied in a somewhat nervous tone.

There was silence for a moment, in which Skyblade looked the human down.

"What happened to your arm?" Skyblade asked in a curious tone.

"Two of your soldiers fired on me inside my prison cell," Zin responded.

"Ahh," Skyblade said as he got up from his chair and began pacing the room. "As much as we Voinians may seem like demons to you, I'm sure my soldiers would not have fired on you without a good reason."

Zin thought about that for a second, and remained quiet.

"Don't worry, I've already heard the story. I don't blame you for attacking my lieutenant regardless of what the intentions were. Every soldier has the right to defend himself and his beliefs." Skyblade approached his chair and again sat down.

"Now, what exactly do you think of the Voinian people? I can already tell you from personal experience that we are naturally a war-like race. I personally don't even see why the Emperor has ordered me to invade the human colonies. While the Voinian people come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, I respect your people as a peaceful race, rightfully defending the space I've been ordered to invade."

Zin was somewhat shocked at those words. The word "Voinian" had come to mean war and hate to him, but this was very irregular from what he had thought of his enemies.

XO (We'll call him Pyotr (pee-YAW-ter; it's Russian))

Pyotr's Location: Prison cell, Voinian Cruiser

===

Pyotr thought his stomach was going to implode. He was slowly starving to death. The Voinian soldier wasn't kidding. There was an intercom device in his cell so he could tell the Voinians when he wanted to tell them something. His brain worked slowly on his devious plan to foil the Voinans, and get him out of here...
"Anyvody! I'm goingk tooo telll yoo my seekerets noww!"

What signiature?
Ohhhhhhhhhhh...

Aben Zin looked into the Voinians eyes, searching for something to give him some clue as to the Voinians motives. The Voinian seemed open and friendly.
But then he doubted you could get high in the Voinian society without disguising your feelings.
There was something else in his look. A sense of... curiosity.
I'm probably the first real human he's seen in the flesh before, thought Zin.
Well if Skyblade could lie through his teeth, so could he. Setting his face in a near replica to the Voinian's, he seemed to all the world and old friend...
"You ask what I think of you? My dear sir I have nothing but respect for your brave people. You fight with honour and dignity. Why you have shown nothing but compassion ever since I was first granted access to this delightful vessel."
To Zin's secret delight the Voinian's smile flickered; just briefly.
"Save it human. Sarcasm does not suit you."
Aben Zin finally cracked. He stood up sharply, leaned across the Voinian's plush desk and grabbed him violently by the collar.
"You attacked us!" His hissed, his face consorted in rage, "You attacked us without provocation! You talk of Respect and Peace, well you don't know the meaning of the words. You let millions of people die. Families, children, all Dead! Do you give a damn? Do you HELL!"
His face was now milimetres from the Voinian's.
"Captain," Skyblade said, his voice perfectly calm, "Please be seated."
Slowly it dawned on Zin that a neutron rifle was pressed to his head. Skyblade must have pressed a panic button.
He felt the red clouds of anger pass and he slowly sank into his seat. The anger was still raging inside of him but for now it was under control.
He reverted his features to the open smile.
"I'm sorry about that, minor misunderstanding. Do go on,"

================================================================
With a flash, Azdara Ace woke up. He still felt, bad about his descision, and his nightmares were still fresh in his mind. But he remained firm in his decision for joining Intelligence. He was soon dressed and ready for some breakfast. But stopped to look at a curious bunch of envelopes lying on his bedside table. He slowly sorted through them and realised that there was one from every member of Red Squadron, 7 in all. He sat down on his bed and started reading the first one, it was from Bill.

_Dear Azdara Ace,

Please don't leave, you mean so much to the whole squadron, and leaving
would just cause more problems instead of adding to the ones that are
already there. Listen, you're one of the coolest people I've every met, and for
you to leave the squadron would be almost as bad as you dying. I know that
everyone else is going through the same thing that you are, because when
you think about it, every member of a fighter squadron is responsible for
every other member of the squadron. We're all here for you.

love,
Bill_

By the time Azdara Ace got to the end of the last letter, he was lying on his bed sobbing. It had never occured to him that everyone else was going through the same thing and would miss him. It made him feel like a bad person. like someone that just gave up on things and didn't really care about other poeple. He didn't want to be that kind of person though, and he decided to continue to lead Red Squadron. It might be hard on him, but at least he had the comfort of knowing that it would would also be hard on everyone else, and they were in this together. After he finally cried his last tear and brushed it away, he headed back to Red Squadron's room, ready to lead them courageously into battle, together.

"You don't trust me, and I honestly don't blame you," Skyblade said to the human pilot. "We Voinians have truelly earned a reputation as ruthless murderers across the known galaxy."

Zin seemed to agree, though the expression on his face didn't change.

"But," Skyblade continued as he leaned back in his chair, "You can't blame us all for the Voinian Empire and its cruel reputation. If I remember your human history correctly, there was once a dictator named Hitler who ruled the German people. This was in World War II, I believe?"

Zin nodded in agreement.

Skyblade went on. "The German people, as you probably know better than I, were regarded as a tyrants. They killed millions of innocent people, am I right?"

Zin again nodded, a bit surprised that a Voinian commander knew human history so well.

"But again, not all of the German people were like this. Some hated Hitler, even outwardly opposed him. They even lost their lives for it..."

"What are you implying?" Zin asked.

"What I am implying, human," Skyblade said, leaning forward, "Is that my government is a dictatorship, just like the Nazis who ruled Germany hundreds of years ago. I was opposed to the rise of the emperor, but was forced into military service."

"Go on," Zin responded.

"I am still in wander as to how I have such a high-ranking position," Skyblade continued. "I would think that my government would have discovered my insurrection-like behavour years ago. But instead, the Emperor has placed me in command of the eastern front operations."

"Then why are you fighting us?" Zin said out of curiosity.

"Because, I fight for the good of Voinia, my homeland. What I fight for has nothing to do with the dictatorship which runs our empire. Just like many of the German soldiers who fought during the second human World War, I do not devote my fighting skills to the emperor. I can tell you right now that if my soldiers or crew were listening to my words, I would be arrested and killed for the highest treason."

Skyblade sipped from a strange greenish drink at his desk before going on.

"But I fight you humans as a worthy and respected opponent. If you think about it, your race would only end up doing the same thing the Voinians have done in the future. It's just a matter of time before every race slips into some form of dictatorship. When, and if the Voinians win this war, I would happily kill the emperor myself."

Zin couldn't believe what he was hearing. He could personally have Skyblade arrested and killed if he passed this information to any of the Voinian crew members.

"Now," Skyblade said in a warmer tone, "You know of my background and intentions. It has been most pleasant finally meating a human, and I hope you've learned something today about the Voinian people." With that, Skyblade extended his hand. "This is the way the humans do it, correct?"

A moment later, Skyblade hit a button on his desk, and two Voinian soldiers entered the room. "Escort the human pilot to room 354. I find no reason to lock him on a prison cell."

Skyblade turned to Zin. "I trust you'll find our crew quarters amusing compared to human counterparts. I also trust that you won't try anything funny. I will try to arrange and have you brought back to your people in the future, but do to current plans, I can't do that quite yet."

"It'd be a safe thing to do," Lieutenant Sla'dack spoke. "The Emalgha have formed many rebel causes on their homeworld, and if we wait on longer, we could be quite strained fighting the humans and Emalgha in a full scale war."

"I've been quite aware of this matter for some time, Lieutenant," Skyblade responded as he again looked at a map. "Although the Emperor has ordered small patrol fleets to keep resistance on Emalgha at bay, it's going to take more than that."

Skyblade paused and glanced at the lieutenant. "Inform Commander Der'vex that I'm placing him in command of a possible northern front. I'll be giving him a few warfleets based at Avann under in his command. His orders are to set course for Fridion, and be ready for possible open rebellion."

The lieutenant saluted and exited the briefing room. Skyblade then turned to the rest of his commanders and associates. "Now, it's about time we plan our next offensive against the United Earth..."

OOC: I stated earlier that the Freight-Corrier hasn't been invented yet (well, a side comment made by Iothe Ian hinted at that). But since ESPilot used it in an earlier post, and I'm up against 28 UE Destroyers, I'll go ahead and use it here. Also, there are no rockets yet; humans have yet to steal them from Voinians. Only Hunter and Needle missiles (Captain Skyblade, the thread starter, or UE Patriot, the UE Leader, said this earlier. I forgot which one said it, but they're both important leaders of this story)

------

As the renegade fleet hypered into Iothe, the massive presence of UE Destroyers disturbed them.

"****ing ****!", one of them exclaimed. "Lets get the **** ****** out of this ********* place!"

Suddenly, the help promised in the DSN system arrived, in the form of 20 Helians and 15 Freight-Corriers.

"Whoa," Helian 2 msged to one of the guys picked up in the DSN system. "Those are some freinds you have."

And the battle began...

The UE Destroyers and the Freight-Courriers were at a disadvantage becasue their Hunter Missiles worked poorly in the interference.

"Alright guys," the lead Helian msged to the others. "Freight Courriers and 2/3 of the Helians fend off the UE. The remaining Helians, those new fighters, and other craft attack the freighers; as soon as you've got the goods, get the hell out of here.

----

The freighters were taken by complete suprise. The pack of new Krait fighters disabled the smaller ones one by one, as the Helians boarded and made off with cargo and cash. Occasinally, a freighter would pass by a Cargo Transporter, which would fire a blast of red and disable it.

---

On the other side of the system, it was a rather nasty battle. Usually intelligent Hunter Missiles were used at close range like Voinian rockets, and red bursts of guns and turrets flew all over the place. The Helian's Needle missiles were being quite effective, but supplies were running low. The UE Destroyers's edge was sharply decreased by the fact that they were out of formation from preparing to hyperspace and the sheer ammount of directions the enemies were comming from.

Suddenly, a pack of 3 Freight Courriers managed to seperate the UE Flagship, the Valykire (sic) from the main group. After firing their remaining missles at the Destroyer, they began attacking via primary weapon.

The Fleet's commander, on board the modified destroyer that was under attack, decided to counter this by...

One of Mirtek's loyalists had somehow managed to create a special railgun for him. It proved extremely effective against Voinians.

Mirtek and fifteen other commandos, who were armed with stolen neutron rifles, wound their way through underground tunnels...

Ten other commandos entered a slave camp from a secret underground entrance. They sealed the door and proceeded down a small hallway...to an automatic exit door. Nine of them backed away, and the leader walked up to the door to activate it. and dropped to the floor to protect himself.

Three Voinian marines were guarding the door, and were immediately shredded by surprise neutron fire. Tascau thought it was very odd that that door was guarded. From the hallway, it was concealed in the wall. Nobody should have been able to see it...

The entire Bakka system was filled with the amazing sight of thousands of Voinian warships. An offensive was clearly underway, and it was the 17th warfleet division itself who would perform the invasion.

Skyblade, aboard the Triton Corsair, ran his ship through hyperspace check. All systems were functioning, and the rest of the 17th warfleet prepared to make the jump for Centauri. The humans were in for a big surprise, whose primary attention had been drawn to the renegades in the south...

"The rest of the 17th warfleet division had just reported in. All vessels are ready to hyperspace for the Centauri system," the comm operator aboard the Triton Corsair reported.

"Very well," Skyblade responded as he waved his hand. "Engage hyperdrive."

The 17th warfleet began to exit the Bakka system one by one. Having been reinforced days before, the fleet now consisted of 1850 Heavy Fighters, 700 Frigates, 275 Cruisers, and 150 Supply Ships. Within the span of sixty seconds, every vessel of the 17th warfleet division had entered hyperspace. The Voinians were about to strike a major blow at one of the first human colonies ever founded...

"Order a withdraw," Captain James Patterson of the destroyer U.E.S. Striker ordered in a rather panic-shaken voice. His ship was decimated, and many of the crew members aboard his ship were lying on the floor dead. Red lights flashed, and alarm sirens blared. As soon as the comm commander gave the order, the destroyer exploded in a ball of flames and debri.

The 17th warfleet division had arrived, and had certainly made their presents known. The thousands of Voinian vessels had entered the system at an unsuspecting moment, immediately decimating all ship traffic. The Centauri defense fleet was performing poorly. The 150 destroyers and 400 fighters that composed the fleet could not offer formidable defense against the massive Voinian juggernaught.

Heavy fighters and frigates were seen chasing the dozen or so remaining UE destroyers as they attempted to jump from the doomed system. Unied Earth fighters, now numbering 40 or so, attempted to secure the retreat, but hundreds of rockets and numerous neutron bolts slashed the small crafts, some of which ended up smashing the hyperdrives of the destroyers as they spun out of control. Only two lucky destroyers were able to leave Centauri, and not one fighter made it through the battle alive. Voinian casualties were light: 55 Heavy Fighters, 20 Frigates, 2 Cruisers, and 5 Supply Ships.

"Send word to the Emperor," Skyblade announced to his comm officer. "Tell him that the Centauri system has been invaded and secured. The Voinian Empire has again triumphed. Sol itself is completely unprotected from attack, and they, too, will soon feel the magnitude of the Voinian Empire."

The United Earth has been putting shipyard facilities in the Sol system at full capacity, preparing for a possible invasion. Destroyer and fighter numbers have boosted far beyond the intended numbers set for the Sol defense fleet. The human race senses a major battle in the near future, and they are preparing to defend their homeland: with whatever it takes."
