Can anyone offer any advice on tactics or weapons for this. I have now lost four perfectly good Crescent Fighters attacking this station. Every time I get swamped by CFs and have to eject. This is driving me absouloutly mad. Every time I have to earn more money to buy a new ship and it just gets trashed again.

Honestly, I would say you've picked a really tough ship to do that mission in, but more power to ya. I would say two things would be key for you: afterburners and escorts. As soon as you jump in, turn around and hit the burners, jetting away from the main group. This will allow you to engage the fighters launched in a more strung out manner, instead of being barraged. Don't forget to use asteroids as cover from the SAD's. Second, get a solid team of escorts, as they can do a lot of the fighting for you. I almost exclusively use Aradas, cuz they're easy to capture and really fast, and, swarming, six Aradas can take down capital ships pretty quickly. You could always upgrade yout ship to an Arada or something a little tougher. You also could ditch the escape pod and just reopen your pilot every time you die, so you start out with the fighter you just wasted without having to build up the cash for another. That will make the game quicker for you, if patience isn't one of your strong suits, like me. Good luck!

1.0.2 is tough on Crescent Fighters. If you're having trouble, an Azdara should be able to handle it. I hate to say it, but since 1.0.2 decides to make all the fighters faster than you (evil bias evil bias evil evil evil bias), the Azdara is a good choice if you can't cut it with the CF.

I'd still advise something like a Lazira or Zidara, though.

I've done the Rock mission several times, and I'd have to say the Azdara is the best choice. I've used the Crescent Fighter, Warship, and a few others before, but the Azdara seems to perform the best. You need extra speed in this mission than you do firepower.

Get enough money for a crescent warship. With this you should start dominating planets dominate at least 8. Then hire 6 crescent warship escorts.
Then do the UE military string to get the cloaking device. (may not be necessary)

I would definitely have to agree with Cap'n Skybalde, using a warship (my preffered fighting vessel) makes the mission tougher. I had to specially equip my Igazra with an afterburner to get away from the initial swarm, every using the plasma siphon didn't help against the CF pack. I died twice, and mind you, my Igazra has 4 shield enhancers, plus a layer of Dospect armor for protection, and they still ripped through me. Definitely the faster warships, the Lazira or Zidara, like SilverDragon mentioned, would do well with this mission, I would think.

Those warships are certainly good for the mission, but it is extrememly hard unless you use a fighter. North Tip Renegade fighters will eat anything other than a fighter...

I would tend to disagree with you on that, Cap'n. I love my warships, and all I needed to do for this mission was tack on an afterburner. Then it wasn't any problem, the CF's came in too staggered to do me any real damage. Then I can jet over, wade in and rip apart all the CW's. This trick might work better with a faster warship than my Igazra, but it wasn't that bad once I got the hang of it. The only thing you have to do is make sure all the CF's don't reach you at once, and that isn't a problem with afterburners and a couple fuel scoops, evern in my large, slow, unwieldy warship. shrugs Course, this is just my opinion, I subscribe to "bigger is better" more often than not.
Ah, yes I should have mentioned. This represents my final assault upon the Crew of One. Therefore I cannot use the Azdara or any warship (all the decent ships). It also means I have to eject every time I die since I am playing on strict. Also the only escorts I can get are those coming from missions. This is one tough mission.
Get a Vonian Frigate and you'll be unstopable because phase cannons are no good aganst armor. You can take out around 10 CW at the same time in a Vonian Frigate, when upgraded with speed etc. and armor.

Fine with me. We all have our own favorite ways for combat moves and engagements...
Voinian ships are a good idea against any strand race. Using a Voinian Frigate (or better yet, a Cruiser), phase weapons become toothpicks. Tack on lots of phase turrets and SAD (or SAE, if you've finished the Igadzra missions), maybe some dispersal rockets, and you're all set to bring shame to your enemies.
Since you can only have a fighter, use a Voinian heavy-fighter with phase weaponery and and after burner, is you don't already have one with your combat rate. then good luck with the lack of speed! I tried it, it is hard.

Yikes, Godfather! That's one tough proposition! Sorry, not much experience with fighters and even less (none) with strict play. Sorry I couldn't help ya! Good luck keeping your sanity intact!
I think that was the only mission string I didn't finish in a Krait for the crew of one.. it wasn't necessary for the main objectives so... and I don't think I want to try it! I think a CF with Dospect would be your only bet, without a cloaking device. Of course you can't use a Voinian fighter as they have more than one crew :).
