Looks good for a first try, the background looks really nice. On the whole, though, the textures look pretty spartan, and the whole ship has sort of a streched feeling to it. What are those things that go off to the side, where you rendered an aura effect? Are they guns?
Anyway, I can see you spent time on it and it looks good for a first try. It reminds me of the Voinian Dreadnought. Cool.

Actually I don't think it looks that bad, although it could us some work. Here are 4 things you might want to try: 1: Give the windshield thing (the blue thing) a highlight (the little light dot that appears on shiny things) so it looks more like glass 2: Make the Jilon cannons a little more complicated (up to you, but I think it would look good) 3: Copy the engine glow effect and move it to all three pods? or just the outside ones? Just a thought, might not look good, but it might be worth a try 4: Bump maps! Head over to the (url="http://"http://meowx.com/texturevault/")Texture Vault(/url) to learn more about texture and bump maps
Two things that you really should do are (1) render it with anti-aliasing on (I use a medium setting, but you have to ajust from program to program) and (2) get a better starfield, (url="http://"http://www.flamingpear.com/glitterato.html")Glittero(/url) is awsome for making starfields, you can also do it with photoshop by using the dissolve nosel on the air brush with 1% pressure, going over the pic evenly, then blurring it, then going over it again, then blurring it again, and there you have a starfield. It doesn't make the best starfields, but it works.
It would help for me to know when the competition closes because I am working on a rather large ship at the moment but it wont be ready for about 2 weeks.

Oh well I guess I wont be entering this time!!! I only just got the turreted weapons finished and actually havent started on the main hull - I have what Im doing planned out on paper though!
