Stuck in Frozen Heart

I've played FH before. Don't ask how I ended up in the pirate system, far from fuel, with no delta funnel and no fuel. All my backup pilot files seem to have decided to update themselves to match my regular file. Is there any way out of this mess? I don't have time to start from the beginning again. Oh, for a tach fighter...

------------------

Hmm. You have four options as I see it.

1. Disable a pirate ship and steal its fuel.
2. Bribe the spaceport, land, refuel, get out.
3. If not enough cash to do option #2, you're only recourse is to hack the plug and create a friendly spaceport for you to land, or to modify the Pirate stellar in some way so it lets you land without making you pay.
4. Start over.

------------------

Never mind about that. I disabled a couple of pirates and took their fuel. However, I'm still stuck. I dropped the Election string because I kept getting killed trying to get the boxes from Marcos (once right AFTER I got them). Now I can't seem to pick that one (or any other) up. Help?

------------------

Arg. I got stuck thrice in Frozen Heart. It's best just to be patient.

1. Near the beginning. My 'iqqle shuttle got stuck in a system, without any fuel,
already landed on an uninhabited planet, not powerful enough to beat pirates, not
to mention lots of pirates, not enough money for anything. In the end, I managed
to beat one of those Argosy like things, and got some fuel and money. ALL BECAUSE
OF WEIRD HYPERSPACE LINKS!

2. That mission where you have to board a ship with asteroids nearby....... Ughh....

3. The Black Hole. Okay okay - I admit it! I put it's shields at 1 in the end! 😉

------------------
Fear not the dragon,
Fear not the wolf,
Fear not the warship,
Fear my Crescent Fighter.

Fear not the asteriods!

They are faster and more manuverable and... well, smarter. But fear not! we shall provail!
For these mighty beasts have a shield of 2!
So hop in you mighty shuttlecraft and blast the hell out of them!

There weapons and good, my friend. Four ram strategies and you can destroy a buccaneer with one tap of you secondary weapon button!

Its a good idea to have a space mine escort, which easily destroys falcons if they dare to pass... And a sattellite... (you'll never get stuck if you are a pilot who plans ahead.)

------------------
Don't give me that "there's no 'I' in team" crap. There's no 'U' in team either.

I've rescued Jasta Hela from her ship, but I haven't heard anything about her for a while. Also, Is there a way to become a Rigellian or a Magellan?

------------------
The Nautilus can outrun you!

When we're talking 'bout Frozen Heart my problem is that I played it a year ago or so, and got involved in a project were I where supposed to save the galaxy from the "Plauge" <shudders>.
Well, anyhow, I got this mission "Report to New Base at Null in the Null system"
There was no damn Null system anywhere in the whole blasted universe, so I shut it down and forgot it all.
Now I returned to my Performa with FH and opened the FH files with ResEdit, to check out whats wrong with Null. Uhmmm...
Half the "syst" file is filled with systems named "Null", and they aren't linked anywhere and doesn't contain any planets and have a weird appearance ID.
The <spöb> file is filled with planets named "Null" not located anywhere and without any data at all...
So Frozen Heart is perhaps very popular and well-made but made by somebody who doesn't know what he's doing, (save for the story and graphics, they're great.) So, Frozen Heart is impossible to accomplish, so take your Tachyon Fighter and kill all the Magellan bastards! (if it isn't a new version or a plug-fix aviable that can solve my problem, if it is I aplogy for everything.)

Stupid Newbie question: is Frozen heart a pluggin or a built in mission?

To answer Olivia's question, aborting missions is generally a Bad Thing, as it can make it so you'll never get the mission again. Got a backup save handy?

On the subject of saves, note the game engine updates the pilot file whenever you land. As a result, should you mess up a mission, I recommend pressing the handy self-destruct button (make sure to hold it down for the whole five seconds!) and re-opening the pilot file, as it'll take you back to the last spot you landed. To successfully make backup files of a pilot, I usually renamed them, and occasionally stored them in a totally different file. Oh, and you aren't sadistic enough to be playing Strict Play, are you (insert witty sarcastic smiley face)?

I suppose I could always did up my save file and check what the problem is, but I'm too lazy. Bleh.

Sounds like you didn't actually install the entire plugin, or else you 'examined' it in EV-Edit (which would corrupt it).

As it happens, upwards of four or five thousand people have completed FH, so it definitely isn't impossible to accomplish.

Suggest you redownload and install properly - and don't examine it in ResEdit. This maybe how you corrupted it in the first place.

OK thanks, I'll download it again someday. Anyway, I didn't save anything I did in ResEdit, I have in fact some experience with building plus and stuffs, so it wasn't I that corrupted the plug.
Yeah thanks anyway.

Actually, it isn't necessary to self-destruct. Just go back to the main menu screen by pressing Escape, re-open your pilot file, and you're back at the last place you landed. This even works on strict play.

Wratho, I think there must be something wrong with your copy of the plugin, your copy of ResEdit, or your hard drive formatting, because my copy of Frozen Heart is just fine.

That's just based on the number of emails I've received. It took about six months to get to the first thousand. After that it accelerated.

How much experience did you say you have had?
Your first post sounded pretty ignorant to me. I imagine the limit of your building experience is one-function cheaters.

------------------

I don't know how much experience he had, but I remember corrupting the plugin hundreds of times on the way to finishing it - opening up any system in EV Edit or any mission, or anything with a template that was different from the current one would do it.

I definitely owe everything to EV plugin checker by the Clavius people.

This is actually why it's divided into bits - the size of the graphics plugin was enough to wreck Schmelta V on its own. The one lesson I learned: keep loads of backups on CD, so that nothing can harm them.

Martin Turner - just the person I want to see! I'm playing Frozen Heart on the original EV, but seems like I get stuck right away - I enroll in the University of Earth, and then I'm told to go to Ashkelon for a dig. I do, and when I land they tell me to go to the dig and meet them at the end in the bar. Well, nothing happens in the bar, even after leaving the system, jumping out and back in and visiting the bar lots of times. I tried returning to Earth too, but the bar there is also empty. Am I missing something? And does the "to the end of the age" the professor said mean anything? I'm clueless.

(hoping to save M. Turner some time here, feel free to correct as necessary)
I've never done FH in EV, only EVO, so that might be the problem. Make sure you don't have any of the Quicktime movies in the plugins folder, as I'm pretty sure EV will choke on them.
You're way early in the storyline, you'll lose next to nothing starting over. Have you tried that?
Did you make it to Ashkelon on time? See, you should get a popup mission on entering the bar immediately after landing, if I remember that string right. If this isn't happening, I'm left blaming pieces. If all else fails, start from scratch with a clean install of EV (EVO, preferably) and a fresh copy of FH. Oh, and it doesn't hurt to fly around the galaxy a bit between missions to learn the map better.

Just my 2c,

Hmmm...looks like a good place to ask a FH question, so here goes.

i have played FH before, but I didn't finish it, and threw it away. Now, a few days ago I wanted to try it again just for fun. But I've forgotten everything, and am not very far. So the question is: What is a good ship to fly in (I've got the cash). Currently I'm in a wanderer because of the time limits. I know that a ship with 3 days to hyperjump is not going to do it, not sure about 2, and 1 ...The fastest, can do.

Understand?
If yes....good
If not.....I need to try write clearer and get to the point 🙂

Thanks for the help!

I did just fine in a souped-up Wanderer until the Tach fighter was made available to me. I'd say stick with it.
