Crescent Fighter - Realism Problem

I just noticed a major flaw in EVO's realism, and I wondered if anyone else had. Playing for the Zidagar in my Crescent Fighter, I noticed that with their system upgrade it would be possible to have a Crescent Fighter Bay and 3 Crescent Fighters in one Crescent Fighter and still have room for a phase cannon. Somehow this doesn't seem right. Anybody any views on this?

Hmmm, nice observation - wonder why it hasn't come up before :). I think that the bay actually adds some to the structure of the ship though, so it would be quite a lot external to the CF base.. either that or they have more advanced technologies than we realised :).

That's always been a flaw. I used to really love my Lightning, with a bay with two Hawks. <grins> Fighters need that level of weapons and space, so things got messed up. I think that all fighters should be "banned" from having bays in the actual game code, which would solve the problem.

That would be hard to do, because of having to determine what was a fighter. You could probably achieve something like this with EV Nova's contribute/require bits.

Yes, that's what I meant. I wonder if Nova has implemented any such feature.

Another fun idea would be a "shape" idea. Fighter bays would be in a cube, so they wouldn't fit within a fighter, which has most of it's space on the wings.

Sure, most of Crescent weapons and ships are unrealistic But I never thought of that possibility. The solution would be to make bays much, much heavier (120 tons for the lightest)

Actually, I perfer having a fighter squadren in my games. Me as an Azdara with 3 other Azdara fighters in a fighter bay is really fun.

As I said, this should be possible with the new engine, although I don't know if ATMOS has actually used it.

Really, the proper way to do it would be to give fighters the amount of space they need, make fighter bays take up a lot of space, and give cruisers and carriers a lot of space as well. Really, though, it's kind of dumb how little ammo many large ships in EVO can carry after my preferred upgrades...

I mean, if (whips out ResEdit and calculator) a Crescent Fighter Bay weighs 80 tons, and can support 3 Crescent Fighters, each which weigh 8 tons and carry 45 spare tons of space, that means...waitasec.

Ignoring that 3 Crescent Fighters can carry more space than a bay and just taking the mass of the bay...

A bay = 80 pursuit missiles = 40 hunter rockets = 80 SADs...that doesn't leave much space left over in a large ship, considering a stock crescent warship (including bay) has only 35 tons empty...

A crescent warship is 8 times as long as a crescent fighter, and including the relatively more spacious shape of the crescent fighter, that means for appropriate weapon loads, a crescent warship should have (um) way too much space (more than 512 tons), considering that volume increases cubically with length.

Anyway, large ships really should be LARGE, and so should bays.

I've also always thought that the fighters themselves should have mass. Make the bay weigh a bit less and give the fighters their proper mass. I have made some mods for EV Classic that do this, maybe I'll post them sometime. nothing major, but a lot of things on there aren't.

no it wouldnt, just because they have more space doesnt mean they can dish out damage fast enough to kill us. remember, its the primary weapons that do the most damage, and those are usually maxed out anyway
