Moments of Pride and Accomplishment

Bah! Stupid Universe! Everytime I go back into the game, something worth sharing happens! Bah!

Anyway, I was in the system left of Bakka (I forget what it's called, its DSN-Yadda Yadda) and I land on the planet, and take off again, and am greeted by a Voinian Cruiser. He launches his fighters, and they seemed to almost wait for eachother until attacking me. They came at me almost in a group, and I began my usual manoevers. I was hit by multiple rockets, and multiple neutron bolts, before finishing all of them off. I then went after the Cruiser. He launched a few rockets, they missed, he fired some neutron at me, it missed, I fired my Phase for 4 minutes straight (I timed it) at him. It hit, and killed him. I seem to have a VERY easy time taking out Voinian Cruisers and Frigates, and have a rough time taking out their fighters. I think I may know what the cause of this is. The fighters are SOMEWHAT faster, and can get a better "lock" on me, they then fire their rockets, which aren't turreted, and are, somehow, harder to dodge. The Turreted Rocket, usually they fire incorrectly, and I can dodge it MUCH easier than the regular rockets. What is wrong with me?

Also, when I disabled the Cruiser, I boarded him, took his fuel, and saw my Capture Percentage: 10%!!!!! I thought HOLY CRAP! And I tried to capture it. I still failed, but thats 1 Man vs 891 Voinians! Does my pilot have like a Missile Launcher aboard his Crescent Fighter? I honestly don't know how I do it. I don't even have the Marine Gear yet!! And no, I am NOT cheating!

Lol. Yeah those little scenarios where you've just cheated death to destroy one of the hardest adversaries in the lifetime of your pilot, and then you're suddenly blown to smithereens by some week little force that wouldn't even dent you if they attacked you when you had full armor and/or shields....But with a centimeter of hull left on your ship, they blow you away like nothing...they piss me off bigtime. But now I'm hoping....hoping that there wont be a little bee that comes and stings the exhausted knight who slew the dragon.....

Actually Stud, I only had one shield enhancer. I DID use my space upgrade for dospect armor, because it's much more useful in the Crescent, especially when I use the cloaking device, which drains your shield instantly. I don't understand why you thought I got shield enhancers, but you got it right the first time when you got armor. Congrats on beating the Strand objective, you must be nearing the completion of the challenge.

Hello everyone. Sorry I couldn't get here sooner. I just delivered a load of Saalian Brandy. Sounds like you've had some interesting stories. For any of you who don't know me, I'm Saki Gremstinn, captain of the Miranu Heavy Freighter, Indulgence, one of the best smuggling ships out there. I've had an interesting run over the last three weeks.
I was in the Emalghion system, on the planet of Emalgha, picking up 1100 tons of weapons to take to Morin in the chak system. I had hired on a pair of MHF to help ship all of the weapons on my excedingly long journey. As I was taking off, all of the cargo packed away, A Voinian fleet jumped into the system. There were three cruisers and seven frigates. I knew my hired escorts were useless in such situations, so I had them stand by. One Miranu heavy freighter against ten Voinian capital ships. Those were great odds.
I powered up my phase weapons and prepared my space mines. The Voinians would not take me without a fight. Pulling MP manuvers on three of the frigates, they were gone in the first few minutes. By this time, the three cruisers had stacked themselves together. This would be a perfect time for my mines. I released ten of the highly powerful explosives, and lured the cruisers into the trap. In a single huge explosion, all three of the cruisers were destroyed. The rest of the battle was a mopping up action with the four remaining frigates.
However, my troubles weren't over yet. As I jumped into the Zachit system, about half-way in my 19 jump run, A large Renagade fleet intercepted my ship. They must have just destroyed the Zachit defense fleet. Nine crescent warships and fighters for me to worry about. I couldn't pull monty python manuvers because my ship was still slow and sluggish, even with all the engine upgrades. I had to fight head to head with them. I won. Just barely. My armour was down to 12%. I land at the outpost, and rested for a day.
The rest of my smuggling run was uneventful. When I arrived at Morin, I sold the Weapons and made close to 2 million credits. I took off with my escorts, disabled them, and then plundered my fee back from them and went to Saalia to pick up a load of brandy before heading here. All in a few weeks work as a smuggler!

What's a space bomb?

The last time I was on this board, the price of dumb questions was really high.

Igor - WOW! You actually use a Miranu Heavy Freighter!? I was thinking they would be useful with a few mass expansions, but they would still be WAY to slow for me. Good job! How did you get away from the space bombs as they blew up the cruisers though? Those things go off so quick even an Arada can't get away in time. orders a fresh Brandy for the lady 🙂

StarStrafer - A space bomb is a highly illegal, very heavy weapon, sold in the south tip renegade systems. Mainly only human renegades. It's a bomb with a VERY big blast, and VERY powerful. Never get too close to one just set off, as even an Arada can't get away quick enough.

Yeah, space bombs are illeagal and VERY VERY dangerous. On EV with the Galactic Scourge plug space bombs spike balls, and the spikes are presumably detonaters. Oh! Guess what? I defeated the Rebel Dreadnought!!!!! It wasn't much different from the scenario I described previously, other than I kept my distance and just kept chucking torpedos at it until it blew. This left me at about half shields, so I called back my fighters which surprisingly had no casualties whatsoever. Then a pair of Argosies jump in, one Pirate and one Rebel. I send out all my fighters after replenishing their shields, maneuvering fuel, and weapons. I sent them after the Rebel Argosy and I went after the other one. About five missiles were all it took to disable the Argosy, so I boarded him and took his cash, then blew him up. The other Argosy was blown up by my fighters, which I guessed were out of ammo. Then another Rebel Argosy jumps in, and I shoot my 2 remaining torpedos at him and send my fighters at him and they take him out easily.

Then I went back to Regulus and landed on New France, where I was given permission to purchase PT Boat racks (Confed Patrol Boats have the same front design as the Gunboat, but the PT Boat has five wings and each has a Torpedo launcher for very rapid fire) and Defense Platforms, which are gargantuan disc-shaped ships that seem to have miniature cities at the middle of each end plus a massive supply of torpedos. And I guess that's the end of the mission string. Or maybe it's not......

You mean space MINES?

Yes, I'm sure that's what he meant. There aren't any space bombs in Override, just space mines. I'll bet he was getting confused with the space bombs in Escape Velocity...

Space Mines, Space Bombs. SAME THING! They both are powerful, illegal, and lethal. Not to mention they both go BOOM!

I've been on the UE/Voinian front lately. I laugh at all the captains of Voinian Cruisers. Suckers! I killed two of them stacked earlier today. It took about 15 minutes of constant fire, but it wasn't that hard. I still seem to have extreme difficulty with the Heavy Fighters though. Thats the hardest part of a Voinian Cruiser battle for me. Why?

I'd say the Heavy Fighters are Faster and more maneuverable, and they get better aim on you with their rockets, which are usually better-aimed than turreted rockets, but a few times I've seen a turreted rocket so well-aimed it was shot in the place I'd be in in a seconds or two, and it slammed into me. No new stories so far, but I'm workin' on it!!

Skyblade - none taken, nor did I see any to take! 🙂

ESPilot - Thats what I think. It's impossible to circle Voinian Heavy Fighters, while I can circle a Cruiser, and he won't move whatsoever, aside from turning. Turreted rockets are rarely a threat to me. I've even faked 'em out! I once did a half-run on a Voinian Cruiser, meaning I flew towards him, guns blazing, but then quickly turned around. He thought I would keep going, and he launched a rocket behind him. totally useless. 🙂

No new stories, but I'll fix that. Off I go!

Haha! This is one time I felt proud to be a Rebel officer on EV. takes a sip of his Brandy

So, I'd been asked to blow up the U.S.S. Sacremento, a Confed Cruiser. I was in a Rebel Destroyer at the time, and it was pretty well maxed-out with stuff like engine upgrades, missiles torpedos, Mass Turrets, and so forth. So, I jump into Canopus, an uninhabited system (don't ask me why but they always pick uninhabited systems as battlegrounds) and there was a Pirate Argosy and a Rebel Thrasher. They battled it out and the Argosy went up in flames just as the Sacremento jumped in and immediately started launching fighters. What I liked about facing this Cruiser in particular was that it didn't have long range homing weapons—but the fighters did. I picked the fighters off with little damage, pounding them with Mass Driver bullets from the turrets while the Thrasher tried vainly to destroy the U.S.S. Sacremento. The Thrasher died about when the Cruiser was at 97% shields, so I launched all my 17 missiles and torpedos, plus some charges with my Mass Turrets getting him down to about 50%. I flew past him, suffering a sizeable amount of damage while he was taking damage by 2% about every charge. So, I got a small distance away and then slowly moved toward the Cruiser and he went straight after me at top speed which was quite slow. I matched speeds and began monty-pythoning him, his shields dropping considerably quickly, and then I suddenly flew straight at him and continued circling in close range for some intense 2.3 seconds, leaving him disabled and me crippled.

I blew him up and limped back to Sauron, where Blake Roughman, my Rebel contact, gave me the right to purchase Manta and Thrasher bays plus fighters, and I was promoted to Acting Commander.

Short, but it was a pretty intense battle. I thought I was gonna be the one pushin' up daisies, or in this case spacedust, at the end of the battle. I was pretty proud of myself after being promoted, but then again, on my Confed pilot slot with my Confed Cruiser, I'm Acting Commodore , which is a very high rank in a military organization. Oh BTW, my Rebel Destroyers's name is R.S.S. Retaliation. Finishes his Brandy, and walks out to his ship to raid a few Miranu Convoys for some cash

Ahem! Remember how I was once scouring the universe for the bison? Well, I found him again. I was in my Icewind Falcon, and I had just reached the Kelmaon system, and refueled and lifted off. I then see on my screen "The Disco Bison LUVS Disco Music." I think "Oh c'mon boy! Boy you wanna mess?" And forget all about my technique I was going to use to beat him. I foolishly attack him at close range, in the front. I am immediatly bombarded by the Machine Gun. I thought I was dead meat. HAH! It's not NEARLY as strong as one would think, it just pushed me far away, and took me down to around 75% armor with the initial stream of fire. I then blasted my afterburners and attempted to get closer and behind him. However the machine gun had FAR range, but not unlimited. He could hit me if I tried to get closer. I don't know what his turn rate is, but he could keep up with my speed pretty well. I eventually went in, with afterburners blasting, straight on, trying to get closer. BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM! Dead. Now I'm pumped, and hope I see him more now. This is the first time I've seen the Bison with my Icewind Falcon, so I think I have discovered his hiding spot. 🙂 BISON: YOU'RE GONNA BE ON MY DINNER TABLE NEXT TIME I MEAT YOU! (Get it? Meat, Bison, hahaha?) 😄

Hmm I've found he never really gives one time to get mad at him :).

I defeated the defence fleet of Sol in a lone creasent warship.
Does that count for anything?

Lol. Yeah, you don't usually get mad at him fast enough cus of that damned DMG. No comment whatsoever on my taking down the Rebel Dreadnought.....And I thought this was for stories, yet my story goes unnoticed....
