Moments of Pride and Accomplishment

Good story, I thought you would defeat the Dreadnaught. 😉 Well, it would be hard defeating the Dreadnuaght in a Crescent Fighter anyhow. What kind of guns were mounted on your ship?

Well, my little bout with the Nadir didn't turn out to be much to talk about. Just some circling to get him to waste his obscene number of needle missiles, and then repeated passes with my 5 phase cannons made pretty short work of him. I picked up Anna Balashova and was off to Knox. When I got there, however, I picked up on the needle jammer string where I'd left off. I got the jammer, and then it was off to Ariane to kick some more renegade booty.

Jumping into the Ariane system, I knew the first thing I'd be dealt would be the krait swarm launched from the turncoats. Sure enough, they were after me immediately. Once they had all been launched, I used a technique I like to call "krait corralling." I flew a tight loop around the line and swung back to my original course. This causes all the kraits to end up grouped into one dense pack, so that I can make passes through and be sure to hit something, rather than a long line, which I would have traverse to the end while taking fire along the entire length.

Anyway, with the pack bearing down (these guys all have afterburners), I targeted one and made my first run, passing stright through the center of the pack with a constant battery of phase fire. My crescent fighter is so fast that it can get through before the kraits even have a chance to open fire, and with each pass I only took minor shield damage. After a few passes, I had inflicted significant damage on quite a few ships. Now they would start to go down. When necessary, I corralled them again to regroup them, and I continued to make passes stright through the swarm, taking down an average of two kraits on each pass. When I reduced their numbers to three or four, I backed off for a second to charge my shields. Then I targeted one and just held down autopilot, so that my target and I swung around back and forth like I've seen aradas do so many times. We kept missing each other, but my secret was that I wasn't really trying to kill the ship I had targeted, but instead to catch the others in the crossfire. One was downed in the crossfire before I took out my target, then I finished off the last one or two with no problem.

Phase 2: Turncoats and helians

With the kraits disposed of, I reversed course and headed back toward the system center. It wasn't long before my sensors picked up a lone helian headed my way. I heard him start to fire off needle missiles, but I continued right at him, with my jammer shoving the missiles out of the way. I resumed the tactic I had used against the kraits, but with slight variations. Not letting go of my fire key the whole time, I held down autopilot to fly straight through him. When at full speed, I let go of the thrust key so that when I passed him, I would turn around to get some more hits in, but continue flying away until I could fly straight at him again, without having to make a turning arc. This also gave my shields an extra couple seconds to recharge after each pass. Like the kraits, the helian didn't open fire until I was right on top of him, and I disabled him with almost full shields.

After destroying this one, I picked up three more helians. I targeted one and megan this tactic again. Because I took so little damage, it was just as effective against multiple ships (I've even taken out two turncoats with it). While I was still working on the first of the three, I detected three UE destroyers coming in. I figured, since my maneuver kept the helians in roughly the same place, I could use it to hold them there until the destroyers could arrive. As it turns out, I managed to diable all three before the destroyers even got there!

As I finished off the last helian, I noticed two turncoats had caught up with the destroyers. Don't ask me why the destroyers didn't kill them before coming after the helians, maybe the turncoats warped in later. In any case, three UE destroyers against two turncoats is a severely lopsided battle, and I just sat tight and watched for the five seconds or so it took before the turncoats went up in smoke. The battle was over, and thanks to my United Earth friends, I hadn't had to fight anything bigger than a helian!

Strafer - NICE!

Skyblade - Yeah well, I'll be at him again today after school. Here's what I have on the Icewind Falcon:

4 Swivel Phasers
1 Dospect
2 Fuel Tanks
Auto Refueling
1 Fuel Scoop
Sensory Enhancers (IFF, Density, Needle Jammer)
And I think thatsz it. I only have 1 ton of free space left.

Great story, StarStrafer! I'll have to share one of my renegade stories sometime soon...

Wow, sounds like you have some decent firepower stocked up in your Crescent Fighter. Will all that, I'm sure you'll be able to take down the Dreadnaught sooner or later, so long as you avoid the salvo rockets. 😉

Okay, well, are there so many points here I don't know if anyone will
read this, but....

I had a shuttlecraft, running the blockade at the very beginning.

Remember all those cruisers and all those fighters they sent out?

I blew up every fighter, got U.E after me after an accidental shot at them,
so I shot their fighters down too!

Not to mention taking on Voinian cruisers with UE fighters, 8 crescent
warships with un-upgraded Crescent fighters. If anyone wants any tips I'd
be glad to give them.

Oh yeah, and I can take down the Igazra on a battlefield with any ship you
can name.

Running the bloackade in a shuttle? Heh, that's fun...I use a shuttle now more then a scoutship, just to make it harder and easier. However, I do my best to avoid shooting at the UE ships. 🙂

Any ship, with any outfit? It's impossible to take out anything with no outfits, correct? And BTW Esponer, you sound like a hot-shot newbie pilot to me, but, I really can't criticize you for it since I was like that when I was a newbie. Well, here's my next story, (which happenned on another pilot file of mine) about taking down some Voinians in my UE Destroyer. orders some of the newly-shipped brandy

I was in DSN-1810, where outpost Theta was located, flying my UE Destroyer the U.E.S. Annihilation, which was fitted with 3 Neutron Turrets, a layer of Dospect, and about 15 rockets. I spotted 3 large objects on radar, which were hostile, so I took them to be Voinian ships. I brought the first one on radar, which was a Frigate. I look at the other one, a Frigate. And judging by the fact that no fighters came outta the other one, I took it for a Frigate. So, I target it, and it was the V.E.S. Elysium or something like that, all 3 headed right at me! So, I target the first Frigate, and barrage him with my Neutrons. I fire a pair of rockets while shooting my neutrons like crazy, taking him out in about 10 seconds. The other 2 Frigates were firing at me too, with little success, so I was at about 90% shields. The 2 frigates were close together, so I got up to one and fired more neutrons and rockets. I took neutron and rocket fire too, and the Elysium had as many turrets as me! I'm at about 60% shields when that seconds destroyer dies, and the Elysium is still firing rockets. So I circle him, firing neutrons with deadly accuracy. Just then, 2 more Frigates jump in, followed by another UE destroyer. The UE destroyer took out one of the Frigates, and went for the other, and got killed. By this time the Elysium was disabled. So I board him, take his fuel and money, and press the capture button with that lovely capture percentage of about 3. So, I hit the button, and I'm asked if I wanna keep it as my own or use it as an escort!! I clicked 'use as escort', since I was feeling far too proud of the U.E.S. Annihilation to give her up. And I was at around 3 shields when the last Voinian Frigate comes charging at me, and was alarmingly close! I was hit by a rocket and went into armor, but luckily I had some dospect armor from Paaren Station (I had completed the Paaren station mission string). I fired my neutrons, having run out of rockets, and in a few seconds the frigate is scrap metal.

Nice story wasn't it? realizes he drank his mug of brandy during the story, and realizes something else too, that makes him go  : NO MONEY LEFT

------------------

Nice going, ESPilot! I love stories where technology and strategy outwit numbers. Five Voinian frigates destroyed by a pair of UE Destroyers? Not bad at all...

Very nice ESPilot! You do know, however, that the Elysium (sp?) just turned into a regular Voinian Cruiser when you took him as an escort. Oh, and don't worry about the Brandy, it's on me. 🙂 orders him another I'm surprised you aren't drunk yet! 😉

Skyblade - It's a nice little bird, but the big lugs can't still knock it out of the sky if they REALLY try. Ofcourse, these are Voinians I'm talkin about. 😉

Back to the Dreadnought. When I finish with him, I dread not the dreadnought. Rather the dreadnought dreads me. 😉 (Does that make sense?)

Actually, the Elysium didn't turn into a cruiser when I captured him; he stayed as a Frigate. And Skyblade, about your battle with the Confded Battleship, that musta been intense!! I have the Galactic Scourge plug, and I fly a Lightning, which strangely, has infinite shielding and nearly infinite weapon and cargo space!! I have absolutely no clue how this happenned, but I took advantage of it and bought me a....goes to a low whisper Turreted Deathray! So, with this true invinci-ship, I can take on anything, anything that opposes me. I'm thinking of re-downloading EV so I can fix this little bug I've stumbled upon.....

LOL!!! You were able to get a Deathray Turret on your lightning!? Wow, that thing weighs so much only a couple of ships in the game can carry it. I would love to see that, though...This little Lightning fighter flying around with a Deathray Turret. 🙂

As for the battle with the Confederation Battleship, it was the most tense battle I've ever engaged in Escape Velocity, thus making it the funnest. It also proved to me just how good the Rebel Destroyer really is...

Yes, the Rebel Destroyer is good. But now I FEAR Crescent Fighters! Why? Read on...

Dreadnought - Part 2

I took off from Outpost Alpha, after a series of virtual reality training sequences. I was pumped and ready for this battle. I was ready to kick some serious voinian butt y'know? I jumped on over to the Vorik System, where the "Voinian Warfleet" was, along with Dreddy. My support? 4 UE Destroyers, 2 UE Cruisers, and a stray UE Destroyer. All 5 UE Destroyers died while I was playing with the Voinian Heavy Fighters from the Cruisers. I swat a few away, and see a MAJOR battle. 2 UE Cruisers are battling the Voinian Cruiser, who is clumped up beside the Dreadnought! That's WAY too much power! So I shot Dreddy, so he wouldn't kill the poor things before the Cruiser was dead. Because the UE Destroyers had severely beaten up the Cruiser before they were obliterated by the Dreadnought (or I assume thats what happened) the UE's didn't have much trouble with him, and blew him up. Both survived. Now it was Me + 2 UE Cruisers vs. Dreadnought. One UE Cruiser died in about 2 seconds, the other lasted a while. He was doing pretty well, and eventually became disabled. I made sure he didn't get blown up, because I needed him his a shield for future salvo rockets, if any came towards my way. For about 5 constant minutes, I fired my phasers at him, circling and circling and circling AND CIRCLING! This is like a pistol trying to take out the heaviest armored tank ever made. After 5 minutes, the moron decided "oh, I guess I should try to hit the guy with my turrets!" and began firing at me. I swerved and dodged and evaded, taking minimal damage to my shields, which by this time had fully recovered. I went down to around 30% of shields from like 4 neutron blasts. I then swerved behind the disabled UE Cruiser, and used him as a wall. He lasted about 5 shots before blowing up. Luckily, by now, he had stopped firing, and I went back to more circling. I circled and shot, for literally, 20 minutes straight. When I saw I had no more support, I decided I would time how long this would take. Crescent Fighter vs. Dreadnought. 20 minutes and 3 seconds until he was disabled. Thats right. I circled this cheese wedge for 20 minutes straight. When he became disabled, I went to board him. I got "You cannot board this ship." I swear you could! However, this was 1 man vs how many does the dreadnought have? 2188 or something? So I guess they had the airlocks guarded with "spare" crew. So I went back to shooting the bastard, it took like 2 minutes to get him to blow up. I helped him blow up. I was near him, shooting, and when he blew up, my shields went to 0%, and I went into my aromr for a second. Thats how strong that explosion is! So I went back to Outpost Alpha, got my reward, got my money, and now I have 8.45 Million Credits. 🙂

Lesse, I've done the Needle Missions, I've done the Dreddy Missions, I think I will try to find the Anna Missions.

OK, Human Renegades PISS ME OFF!!

I'm working on the Anna missions, and I am getting VERY VERY VERY sick of renegades! Especially Turncoats and their little flies! I had to land on the planet inbetween Riomar and Iothe (how do you say Iothe?) and like 5 Turncoats were there. Ofcourse, this BIG swarm of Kraits come right at me. GOD I HATE THAT! Why? Kraits like to get into these BIG BIG Swarms, meaning LOTS of blazers! Blazers HURT! Especially when you're in a Crescent Fighter! And because I have limited the use of the MP, I can't just kill them that easily! I spent about 5 minutes killing the kraits, and then went after the turncoats. When I am finishing off the last disabled turncoat, ANOTHER ONE JUMPS IN! So I go after his Kraits, and kill them, and him, and when I am finishing his disabled *** off, A HELIAN JUMPS IN! By this time, I have maybe shavings of armor left. I go after him, get him disabled, and begin to finish him off, when, ANOTHER HELIAN JUMPS IN! So I go after him, and I kill him, and, A KRAIT JUMPS IN! I kill him, and land on the stupid planet. I hate RENEGADES!

I see I've found a kindred spirit. I just completed the Anna missions in a crescent fighter yesterday. Do you have dospect armor? This is the only way I can think of for a crescent fighter to have "shavings of armor left." Here's a trick: since each system has an average number of ships present, don't destroy the ships, just disable them to reduce the likelihood of more jumping in. When they're all disabled, destroy whichever ones you need to to complete the mission, and you can ignore any others that jump in, since they're not part of your mission. A word on kraits, you should be fast enough to dart right through the pack with guns blazing and still take little or no hits. The other thing that bugs me is that it would be tough to MP them even if I wanted to, because they seem to be quite fond of their afterburners. One more thing, personally I pronounce it "eye-oath."

Man, I would be pretty mad if all those ships kept jumping in. Grrrrr...

~Cap'n Skyblade

I am so mad I don't even want to play the game right now!

And yes, I do have dospect, the useful armor has taken up most of my ships room, and I have 1 ton of space left. Fortunately, I have just about everything I need to keep me going. I can run from kraits, but if I am running from them, and I want to shoot them, I am pretty much doing the MP. I can handle the stupid pieces of paper, I just get VERY VERY IRRITATED with them!

LOL!! Yeah, that would generally help. lol...

Well, I beat the stupid Nadir, rescued Anna, and now, as far as the game is concerned, I don't have to fight another Krait for the rest of the game.

I gave my Icewind Falcon a paint job. How? Well, I made it look how the name might suggest. Icewind...kind of bluish, sleek looking... 😄

Let's see who can guess what I did. Whoever guesses correctly, first, gets a Saalian Brandy on me. 🙂
