/Me having nothing to with 1KW, and totally guessing on this one: They probably have one 'piece' with the universe map, and one piece per government, plus prbbly a few seperate pieces with some graphics and stuff... so I'm estimating about 12 pieces which they are gonna put together just by copying all resources into one big file

It'll probably be released as replacements for the EVO data files rather than as a separate plug. That way, EVO will only have to load the relevent information.

Probably. That's the way FH did it anyway. Though i'm not sure if removing the original files speeds up loading time that much. The main advantage in removing the original files is that the result is less buggy, because EV resources which don't get overridden by the plug are still considered active . So, just for example, if the 1KW plug doesn't override all EV missions, you could get EV missions in the 1KW universe. This is of course not a Good Thing ™. This not being much of a hassle for 1KW since they max out all resources anyway
your servant, hoping this helps a bit, -s-

I'm not sure about speeding up the load time either, but it definitely cuts down on the amount of RAM required to load the game. At least it has with my development copy...

This surprises me even more, since AFAIK EV doesn't hold any resources which were overridden... ???

When you eventually do post the plug, can you pleeese not BinHex it? It takes up much more space. If you just stuffed it and put it up, it would be smaller. (In my experience anyway.)
On the note of encryption, what's the ".bin" mean as a suffix? I know BinHex is ".hqx"... So whats ".bin"

Except that ASW's server dosn't like .sit files. It makes your browser download them as text.
I for one would now want to download 30 megs of text and have to paste it into BBEdit, save it as a .sit file, and then drag it over Stuffit.
Sorry guys, its gonna be .hqx
Crud, crud, CRUD....

There are other alternatives to .hqx encoding. I typically use .bin (which, I believe stands for binary encoding) to encode stuffed files for upload. It's unclear at this juncture who'll be doing the upload for Mille Terrae - hopefully one of our members with a cable modem.
Anything but .hqx!! I have no idea what it is but it takes a frickin long time to download anything in that format!!
How about if you guys "ZipIt"?
You know, the PC way... ".zip"
There is a mac program that'll let you do that called "ZipIt" and you CAN unstuff the file keeping everything intact using Stuffit.

.bin is mac binary, I believe.

Yes, the program that I used to ".bin" the files in the olden golden days were:
MacBinary II+
It can be found here: (url="http://"http://www.mac.org/utilities/macbinary/")http://www.mac.org/u...ties/macbinary/(/url)
Instructions to use it are posted there too!
ZipIt is posted there too at: (url="http://"http://www.mac.org/utilities/zipit/")http://www.mac.org/utilities/zipit/(/url)
No need to thank me and good night!

Just trying to keep this thread at the top of my list so I can watch it...
Is it just me, or has someone shortened the number of threads that can stay on the first list??
I have no idea. Andrew was messing with it a few days ago, ask him.
