The Light Behind the Shadow

Thank you Daedalus for accepting my offer. As for the new name, how about the Daedalus/Carnotaur Renegade Alliance, or something along those lines. I remind you, the Azdgari Empire is separate though, so they do not count (unless you want to have Intimidator and the Azdgari Empire, also called the AE, to join you as well :D).

daedelus looks up and says, "perhaps you ought to speak with oasa about the fuel problems. during the War, Oasa seemed to be needing fuel for special purposes."

Oasa invites the entire alliance's leaders to a meeting on Voina to share technology and plan a scouting expedition.

Carno, the name of the Renegade Alliance is now, the silver fleet. I guess since all of us are allied, we are the Galactic Alliance or something. The Silver Fleet is part of the Galactic Alliance.
--------------------------
After examining Carno's research Daedalus is skeptical. "It appears that weapon would work but it seems extremely unstable. I would not use it around my fleet, if the cut was not closed, it would turn into a black hole. I will equip one ship with it for use in one ship missions. I will only have enough room for the new beam and ramscoop. I will cristen the ship, S.F. Pandora. Bring the tech to the galactic Alliance meeting."

Daedalus oversees contruction of his new Silver Fighters as they were not completed when the Silver Fleet made its appearance.

Give them shell! give them solid shot! Damn them, give them anything!

Carnotaur gathers together the disruptor beam technology, his two Igazras and Azdgari warship, all equipped with disruptor beams, and one disruptor beamer itself and goes to Azdgari to pick up Intimidator. Once there, he and Intimidator have a private meeting. After the meeting, Intimidator sends out a message to Daedalus, Oasa, Buba, and Rooster, telling them to meet on Azdgari.

Once everyone is present, the meeting begins, started by Intimidator. “As you all probably know, I have recently been trying to rebuild the Azdgari navy. So far we have built 90 Azdgari warships, 120 Azdgari Aradas, and 200 Azdaras. However, we will only be able to commit 1/4 of these forces to the offensive against the Ancara. The other 3/4 I will use to protect the Azdgari Empire which is critically weak at this point.

“Recently my son, Carnotaur, has developed a new kind of devastating weapon: The Disruptor Beam. It works by using highly consontrated energy to split sub-space and thus creating massive amounts of energy. Most fighters would be instantly vaporized by this beam. To tell you more about this weapon, I turn over the floor to Carnotaur.”

Carnotaur stands. “Thank you Intimidator. Intimidator is right, the Disruptor Beam is extremely deadly. However, it requires vast amounts of fuel. However, I have also recently developed the Super Ramscoop, which recharges fuel at 10 times the amount a normal scoop does. With this technology, the disruptor beam is highly practical. However, because of its design, the Disruptor beam cannot work near either sub-space disturbances, or black holes. The results of firing this weapon would the be instant vaporization of any ship, vessel, or planet within 550 million nautical miles, about half a system. There would then be a massive shockwave, which would disrupt sub-space within 10 light years. Anything within the system would be destroyed. Hyperspace links would also be destroyed, and communication would be impossible until 8 hours after the explosion. Hyperspace may also not function. But don’t worry. This only occures near major sub-space disturbances and black holes.

“My friend Daedalus thinks that this weapon is too dangerous, and so has only employed one on one of his vessels. I assure you Daedalus, the chances of a Disruptor beam not sealing sub-space and creating a black hole is 1 billion to one, and it might be even more unlikely.

“Now that I am finished addressing the Azdgari Empire and myself, I now turn the floor over to Daedalus.”

"Your Adzgari fleet's help is commendable, but as i said, only one ship will be able to enter the rift ( Malcontent ). Your fleet will need to wait on the other side in the event we fail and the Ancara attack. The weapon you described would be inoperable under subspace fluctuations as you said, correct? The array constructs a continuous corridor which distorts subspace. We'll have to use conventional weapons to destroy the crystal. My plan is this: Myself, Buba, Oasa, and Daedalus will be aboard the Malcontent and will board the array. We will make our way to the core, destroying the crystal. There is no way our ship's weapons will be precise enough or powerful enough to destroy the crystal completely. I will bring an enhanced Photonlance to completely eradicate the crystal. Carno and Intimidator will manage the backup fleet in Azdgari space. Are there no other announcements?

------------------
It is not fear that will destroy you, but the absence of it.

Couldn't we land a fleet of warships on Malcontent? Malcontent can destroy large warship but not small ones. It could be destroyed by a nuclear blast cracking the crust. How can it stop small missiles from entering the atmosphere. It is worthless without a fleet. The Silver Fleet is willing to go through the rift on the surface or under ground on the Malcontent.

"Or we could just send one of our ships, unmanned, over there and then have it fire its disruptor beam. As I said, everything in the system would be destroyed. However, it would cause almost perminant damage to sub-sapce, and we might never get to go back to the Ancara systems. It might also render the system uninhabitable, because our scientists have speculated that such a large explosion (which would almost destroy sub-space in that area) would create vast amounts of x-rays, rendering the system and maybe even nearby systems filled with x-ray radiation and uninhabitable. However, our scientists haven't proved it. Just a suggestion."

but how would we send comm transmissions through to the ship? our signals can't enter the slipcorridor. I have an idea: Daedelus, can you miniaturize your planet cloaking device to fit on a drone? We will outfit it with a sensor array to locate the crystal, and then return to normal space with the coordinates. With that information, we will be able to send an automated fleet to destroy the crystal. And if the disruptor beam obliterates the system, all the better.

Please people, read my entire posts. The array locks to one mass; it would tear the other ships off into the interquadratical flux. We must send one ship, one that can take the beating just to get to the array. The time grows soon that the Ancara will attack. I suggest the C.E.S. Corrusk , it's heavily armored and is equipped with the slipdrive. We will leave in one hour.

------------------
It is not fear that will destroy you, but the absence of it.

I could modify the cloaking device quite easily. But think about what we would be doing. We would be closing the only opening into a new galaxy for 1.5 mil. The Ancara could be doing all kinds of evil in their galaxy. Their could be suppressed races all over it. Maybe there is a resistence already there. I say that we all land on the Malcontent with our fleets and go through. Then we could destroy the crystal from the other side. The Malcontent could be our homeplanet to start a resistence if there isn't one already. Since the Malcontent can cloak. We could launch an attack from within Ancara space.

The rift locks to one ship only! And on closer examination, the Malcontent would require too much time to equip it with a slipdrive. There is another possibility i suppose. I thought it too dangerous to bring the whole crystal back as it could fall into Ancara hands (a few of them are still in our quadrant). However, if we took only a small chip to power an array on our side for a short time, we could send in scouts to report on the situations in their quadrant. We must now leave in 30min (gametime; next post)....

------------------
It is not fear that will destroy you, but the absence of it.

it is too dangerous to bring back even a fragment. I say we strike while we can. How long will it take to outfit the Malcontent with a slip drive? As long as we are able to stop their cruisers from entering our quadrant, I see no hurry.

------------------
(url="http://"http://www.bigfurrydeal.com") bigfurrydeal! (/url)

Many fleets are gathered around the array. A Vanguard of Silver Fighters awaits for its activitation.

"Here is your final briefing Mercury Squadron. You are to arrive at the enemy system cloaked. Fan out and gather sensor readings. You will have 10 minutes to perform this mission. Return here within that time or be trapped. We will proceed from there."

A space funnel begins to expand in the array. Mercury Squadron enters and is gone.

10 minutes later the array powers down just as the 9th fighter returns. One was lost.

"Mercury Squadron. Return to base on Malcontent to anylize the sensor readings."

I'm afraid Daedalus's post is revoked. He continues to ignore that only one ship can enter the rift. I agree that it is too risky to bring back a fragment, but the mission will have to wait (sorry if this sounds selfish) until i'm done with dinner. We'll reconvene then.

It is not fear that will destroy you, but the absence of it.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood quadrant for the Ancara side of the portal in your, "we can send in scouts" post.

A vanguard of ten Silver Fighters makes its way to the Ancara quadrant. After taking sensor readings it returns.

"Captains, they have at least 6 cruisers with 8 times as many drones."

OMG! You're still sending more than one ship through! Nevertheless the mission must now begin. All are aboard the C.E.S. Corrusk. Our array is powering for the one and only incursion (and return). All stations, check in. Buba, Oasa, Daedalus, call in signaling that you're ready to go, and i'll begin....

Come on people, call in so i know you're ready!

rooster, I'm ready to go. I brought along a second photolance in case yours somehow malfunctions...

Carnotaur, Captain Scorcher, and Intimidator will be waiting in case the mission fails with approximately 30 Azdgari warships, all equipped with disruptor beams. Intimidator is also informed that a small Igadzra fleet has been dispatched to join them, along with another Zidagar fleet. The Zacha and Strandless have also voulenteered ships. In all, the space armada waiting for the Ancara (who are sure to retaliate, unless they can't because of the destruction of the crystal) are sure to retaliate. If they do, we will be ready. And if the mission fails, and the Ancara attack, we will also be ready.
