I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a great RPG gamer. I attribute it to lack of experience. Whatever the reason, I am determined to beat PoG, but I keep running into the obstacle of the fact that I suck.
Anyway, I'm a page (I don't have a lot of time to play), and I still haven't reached Gwyden Camp. Over IRC, ArcAngel Counterstrike advised me to go to the swamp, which I did, and promptly got killed by the lizard-thingys in the cave. I don't feel like I'm up for that at the moment.
I was heading for Gwyden Camp, and killing the occasional insect or wolf thingy, when all of a sudden, a gang of wolves jumps me, and it's all over. I cannot survive assaults like that, I'm simply not good enough. I think I may try to turn back and go to Fantrima again, to stock up and get better equipment. Anybody have any advice for me?

The wolves may have been the demon Kobolds, if you have the roadkill mission. There mean suckers. but there are I think only 12-15 of them in all.
You could just stick around town and kill goblins and kobolds for a time, although it dosent take long for the amount of Xp from them to be useless and taking up your time. The sooner you save the general in the swamp, the sooner you will become a Squire. If you stay a page too long, it will be hard later on with little health.

Dern. There are a great many of those lizard things, and they are all fairly powerful. Maybe I should head back to Fantrima to stock up again (I have about 500 gold) and go after 'em.

Hi AAC, Starkiller mentioned above that he had not even made it to Gwyden Camp. Am I mistaken, don't you have to finish the Lumberjack quest before Septembris in Fantrima will give you the Rescue the General Quest? I'm not clear on this since I always do the Lumberjack and Oakwasp quests then go back to Fantrima and get the General mission.
Starkiller, if more than one of the Kobolds (the mean wolfie things) jump you, run away from them but do it so that they follow you. After a bit one or more will drop off and that should leave just one for you to fight. Much easier that way. Alays has worked for me. Hope this idea helps.

Nope. He gives you it when you become a page.

Sounds like a decent idea, so when I start playing in a bit, I'll employ it. Thanks.

I have finished the killingh of ookwasps so the bridge can be built, have made it to the second level of the learning tree, have pathfinder, etc.. but keep getting killed by the swamp monsters...
Iive got good armour, weapons, etc... Is the secret to finding the general having enough potions to keep healing until I do them all in?
Have I stayed a page too long? ------------------

When you say "swamp monsters", do you mean those zombie-like things wandering about the swamp, or the lizard monsters inside the cave?
<edit>Hey, I just realized that this is my 3000th post. Who else thinks that I spend entirely too much time on this webboard? :p</edit>

I'd go stock up on potions and stuff. Also, just run around all the wolves.
Finally made it into the cave in the swamp, but now am getting killed when I get down to the third level by some darth vader type. Any hints on what I need to do him in?

Ah, housemouse say hello to the general, general say hello to the housemouse... now Fight! Just suck down a potion after every other hit and just keep hitting that attack key.

I can take 'em on 1 on 1 without getting hit most of the time, but when it goes 2 on 1, I tend to lose a lot of hit points. I'm going to try and engage them, somehow, 1 on 1.
Status Update:
I got past the wolves, by killing them all at once (I couldn't just draw them away) and using a bunch of potions. Fortunately, that obstacle is gone. I also killed the ookwasps by the bridge, so I'd say that I'm doing fairly well. I'm going to head back to Fantrima to check up on things.
