Demo crashing after first run

I downloaded the demo today and was able to get it to run once and every time after that, it crashes almost immediately after being shown in the dock. I've tried running it in classic and was able to get it to run once, but again, after the first quit, it ceases to run. There are no error messages and nothing shows up in the console. I've tried deleting all preferences files (Garendall Licence, com.ambrosia.pillars.plist, & Pillars of Grendal preferences) and shutting down and then restarting and then copying the demo off the disk image again, but the same thing happens! The full version works fine. Any suggestions? (I'm waiting on my registration to come through, it should be here tomorrow so I can play, but I'd like to play sooner if possible and I'm curious as to what went wrong. Thanks.

Cant say much for the demo, but if Full is working why not just use that?

Because I can't save a game in that until my registration comes. Plus, the full version seems to crash just when I start to get going. It doesn't really matter since my registration should be here in a few hours, but I still am curious as to what's going on and how to fix it. I wish I was as good troubbleshooting Mac OS X as I am troubbleshooting the previous OSs.

Well, I know how to get around one problem, Theres a bug with the Full one when its not registered, It cant open games on its own, what you do is manualy drag the saved game to the app. then it will start up and open your saved game. Once its registered, then it works fine.

I finally got my registration and I absolutely love the game. All the plot of Cythera, but with action more similar to Escape Velocity (the game that made me fall in love with Ambrosia SW!) Keep the OS X games comming!

Oh, the point of this message! I still would like to know why the demo would only run once and what might be done to fix a problem like that in the future (with another app or something). Still trying to figure out the quirks of OS X. 🙂

Hmmmm.... does it start to bounce in the dock as if launching, and then after a few bounces merely stop and then dissappear from the dock as if something made it force-quit whilst launching? It does this for me as well, both in Carbon and Classic modes. I haven't bothered restarting into 9.2.1 to check it, because though PoG is apparently a great game, I don't intend to go back to OS9 for it, or to make my work that much more complicated.

This may be a problem that will be fixed in the upcoming update. Suffice it to say that I've experienced it too, and haven't been able to deal with it. That's why I'm waiting for my MacAddict to arrive (I'm in Australia, things take longer to get here...) so I can play PoG. Anyone got a solution?

It doesn't crash.

Search for a file named "emitgop" on your hard drive. Delete it. You'll have to delete before you want to play the demo. For some very odd reason, a time bombed demo has made its way to the server. We're investigating it.

Tarnćlion Andiyarus, that's exactly what it does. The best solution is to buy the game. The registered full version works fine and it's an awesome game. Thanks for the other tip Dee, and thanks to whoever said that the full version can play saved games, but it's no matter now anyways. Thanks all.

I dunno if this is the right place to ask this, but I got the game off the December MacAddict CD and I get a type 3 error message-has something to do with memory. I increased it's memory allotment, doesn't work. I only have CarbonLib 1.0-is that my problem? Where can I get a later version?
