Nick was very pleased as his new ares and 10 prowlers came into blackthorne to join his fleet. Nick had cemented a deal with the confederation. In their desperate state, they had requested Nick's assistance in guarding Sol. The new ships were part of the payment. Overall, Nick was very pleased with the outcome of this transaction. He was getting restless sitting around.

OOC: I would like you all to notice that the Ares Battlecarriers are EXTREMELY powerful. I just don't want you underestimating them when they go into battle. They have 16 proton turrets each, and fighters would take extreme losses from them as well as heavy rocket fire, and so would capitals, not to mention they have 2x the shielding of a confed crusier. In short, they are not just the average capital ship, and I hope that you'll write any battles with them accordingly

Refueled, the Blackthorne fleet hypered into the Sol system. Nick was beginning to have doubts about this. If an enemy was so strong that the Confederation needed help, Nick thought he might just stop the crazy operation as a mercenary and go hom. But, he had been paid well, and if he backed out now nobody would ever trust him again. He sighed as his ship landed on the small bluish sphere that this was all about. Being on Earth, homeworld of his race was an awing event for Nick, and he wandered frequently, visiting historic sites and monuments. Then, he sighed again and returned to his ship.

The glowing holographic sphere of the local map surrounded Field Commander Eileen EcKenzie, the grey lines of hyperspace corridors running across her face. Reaching a VR - gauntleted hand into the map, she cut to the status of the Assault Fleet, in orbit of Dune. The ships were tiny images around a dusty ball; ten Artemis, seven Athenas, four Kestrels, one Corvette, four Lightnings, and twelve Rapiers. It was the work of a moment to have three Artemis, three Athenas and the four Lightnings remain in Arrakis, leaving six Artemis, four Athenas, four Kestrels, one Corvette, and twelve Rapiers, to attack the next target - Nemesis.
Arrakis --> Nemesis
The Nemesis defence fleet would be the Solidarity's toughest challenge yet; almost constantly on guard due to the neighbouring Independent Confederation of Worlds, it consisted of two Rebel Cruisers, fifteen Destroyers, and forty Mantas (not including the ten on the Cruisers). The Olympian fleet used their tried-and-true method of pelting the enemy with torpedoes, while using their massed Proton fire to pick off the faster fighters. The Rebels replied with a hail of missiles and triangular Mantas. Standing on the bridge of the Assault Fleet command ship, McKenzie took a quick tally of the losses; an Artemis, two Athenas and a Kestrel lost on their side, while the Rebels had lost twenty-two of their pitifully shielded fighters, and four Destroyers. Then the remaining twenty-eight Mantas were being picked off by Proton turret fire as they flitted among the Olympian ships, hitting here and there with their lasers. While their Proton turrets were occupied with the Rebel Mantas, the Olympians kept their torpedo tubes hot, hammering at the Rebel Destroyers. A second quick check revealed that all the Rebel Mantas had been destroyed, as well as a further five Rebel Destroyers, while the Rebels had taken down another Athena, the sole Corvette, and four Rapiers. The Olympian turrets swung to fire at the remaining six Destroyers, hitting them with a double barrage of Proton fire and torpedos. Under the withering hail the last Rebel Destroyers quickly fell, taking with them a single Artemis. Now only the pair of Rebel Cruisers remained. Their main advantage was their Mantas, and those were gone; now the Cruisers were looking decidedly outnumbered, a pitiful return salvo of missiles firing against the massive torpedo barrages the Olympians were delivering. Finally the capital ships came into weapons range, and Olympian Proton turrets began to fire. Under the heavy fire, the Cruisers were quickly anhillated, but managed to take down a final Kestrel. McKenzie marshalled the fleet; they now controlled Nemesis, but at the loss of 2 Artemis, 3 Athenas, 2 Kestrels, 1 Corvette and four Rapiers, leaving the Assault Fleet at 4 Artemis, 1 Athena, 2 Kestrels, and 8 Rapiers.

2nd Democratic Defense Fleet moves from NGC-6030 to Vega.

As the fleet screamed into Pollux, the mobilized Confederation force began to launch volley after volley of guided munitions. However, the fleet is soon gone, suffering minimal losses.
Core World: 8 ODSs 3 Frigates 1 Confederation Cruiser Mk. II 23 Gunboats
As the fleet entered Vega, stiff Confed resistance met them. The fleet immediately exited the torpedo range of the Mk. IIÅs and ODSÅs, and waited. The gunboats, supported by the frigates, began approaching the invaders. Bad move, as soon as they were out of torpedo support range multiple corvettes screamed toward the pack of gunboats. The corvettes viciously ripped into the poor quality fighters, heavy rockets and laser fire abound.
Meanwhile, nine corvettes pulled off from the main fleet body and approached the Frigates. The Frigates ignored the threat, instead concentrating on supporting the gunboats. The corvettes, each grouped in a detachment of three, approached a Confed Frigate. The explosion of fire from the three groups of corvettes ripped though the rear end of the one frigate, causing it to veer and slam into another Frigate, creating a lethal fireball. One unlucky corvette was caught in the fireball, and about to go down. The captain decided to give up his life for the principle of freedom, and slammed his vessel into the keel of the last Frigate, driving a hole through the behemoth.
While all this was going on, the eight Raptors approached the main body of the defense fleet. They suddenly accelerated, rocketing at full speed towards the Mk. II. The plasma defense grids on the Raptors easily absorbed the torpedoes that impacted them, but most could not even track the super-fast Raptors. As soon as they were within range, the ships released a large amount of space bombs and dove out of the way. The space bombs slammed into the Confed Cruiser at breakneck speed, tearing through its defense grid and tritanium armor like they werenÅt there. The Raptors soon turned their attention towards the maraudering ODSÅs, who were slowing taking down the RaptorsÅ shields with their strike missiles. The Raptors pivoted and launched a barrage of heavy rockets and space bombs, devastating the weak shielding of the ODSÅs. Soon, the battle was won.

Then, two Destroyers, at top speed, fly to the Mk.II, weapons blazing. The ships cascaded into the Mk.II, while two other destroyers were going in and out of missile range, attacking the Mk.II. It was destoyed in a fireball. Those two then rammed at the ODSs, fireing all the way. Two ODSs and the two destroyers blew up. the remaining two destroyers do the same thing with the remaining three ODSs. One destroyer pulls out, extreamly dammaged. The Rebels now have Control of Zaphod! Rebel fleet: -4 RC -7 RW -10 RD (5 Lost, 1 Heavily Damaged) -27 RM ---------- Ursa-->Deneb-->Pelagon-->Barnard Orion-->Atrops Clotho-->Curzon-->Orion-->Atrops ---------- As the fleets sped into Atrops, they moved out of missile range. The Confed Frigates and Gunboats advance on the rebel fleet, but missiles fire and the Frigates are destroyed. the Mantas swarm the gunboats and prove to be too strong for them; the gunboats are destroyed. The Destroyers and Warbirds go in and out of missile range, firing missiles. four ODSs die, and so does one Warbird. Destroyers charge the remaining ODSs and attack them hard with heavy rockets. One Destoyer goes down from torp and missile fire, two others are dammaged. The Rebels now Control Atrops! Rebel fleet: -4 RC -31 RW (One Damaged) -19 RD (2 Heavily Damaged) -81 RM ----------

The mercenary fleet was assembling. Their target: Procyon. They would depart within the hour.
Merc. Battlegroup enters hyperspace: Barnard ----- > Zebetrious -----> Eridani -----> Procyon
As the fleet hypered through Eridani, two lightnings were lost from proton fire from the Confed fleet. But before they could do any more damage, the mercenary fleet hypered out.
BAM!! The mercenary fleet hypered into Procyon. Imedietly they turned around and fled fullspeed outside of the torpedo range of the ODS's. The Confed Frigates, Gunboats and Cruiser sped after them. Then the fleet turned around again to face the oncoming ships. The confeds got closer, closer, closer. Finally they got within torpedo range, and the mercenaries opened fire with a barrage of torpedos. All 3 Frigates were blasted back and destroyed. Then the Rapiers and Lightnings attacked the Gunboats. Two Corvettes were destroyed in a ball of fire by missiles and heavy rockets. Even more were damaged.
Then the Confed Cruiser approached. Two Kestrels broke off and charged the cruiser. As the 1st took the weapons fire from the cruiser and the ODS's, the other rammed the it full speed. The giant ship split in two and exploded. Both kestrels were destroyed.
After the Gunboats were destroyed, the Rapiers and Ravens charged the ODS's, dodging their torpedo and missile fire as best they could. A Rapier exploded as 8 torpedos hit it. The others fired heavy rockets and torpedos at the ODS's, and 4 exploded. Snother Rapier was hit and destroyed. But then the Corvettes, Lightnings, and Starks charged. They released a barrage of heavy rockets and missiles. The battle that insued cost the lives of 25 Lightnings and 2 Corvettes. But all Confed ships were destroyed. And the mercenary fleet secured Procyon for the United Democratic States.

Carnotaur looked at what remained of his fleet. The 13th Fleet and the 7th Fleet had been badly damaged in the battle, but at least they had survived, and more importantly, they had won. Sol was now in the hands of the Lethe. From now on, they wouldn't be an insignificant border colony.
Quickly ordering that his fleets be rearmed and repaired, Carnotaur then went to the battle room to plan his next move...

Luke looked out at the remaining Alliance ships. He then looked at the remaining Pirate ships. He had lost some of his greatest friends in the Battle of Sol. Much of his fleet had been destroyed.

Luke kept thinking the same things over and over again. A Confederate Frigate, charging straight for the Hell's Wrath... the order was given... Luke's ship fired it's Neutron blaster at an asteroid, which swung up straight in the path of the incoming Frigate, which exploded on impact... Luke saw this happen over and over. It was the only thing going on in his mind. That, and the sneaking, sub-conscious thought that someone owed him fifty million credits.
