Fought for Emalgha against the Voinans - does that mean the Voinan AND
I decided to go over to the Voinans after being offered a mission on Pax. Afterwards however, I never found the Voinan system where the Voinan operative said that I could actually land. Whilst I was cruising Voinan space looking for it, I accidentally stumbled on Emalgha and ended up fighting with them against the Voinans. Perhaps not unexpectedly, I now am listed as "offender" in all Voinan systems, cannot land anywhere, and have not received nay further missions. Of course, the same is try for UE missions too. So, I've p*ssed on my chips both ways, as they say! What would people recommend I do? Is there any way that I could restart the Voinan or UE storyline?
Some go both ways. <cryptic grin>
You can increase your status with one side by killing their enemies. Though you have to be near the systems you want to increase your status with for that to work.
Welcome to the boards, sarpeyer.
You can play for both, but I haven't had the desire to do so, so I don't know how. Ask Qaanol how to do it, he's Done It All. Or use the search feature for the EVO forum, I'm sure there are more than a few topics on how to play both strings at once.
If you're on a Mac, and are familiar with ResEdit, and you're using Classic, you can use a utility called Pilot File Editor to go back and turn off or on certain missions. Though, I have no idea what those mission bits are.
It helps to save your pilot file every now and then, so you can go back and redo missions if you need to.
Or, like Guy said, choose one side and work real hard at killing their enemies.
Good luck!
To play both sides, you have to have gotten the first Voinian mission (swipe cargo off the FC) and gotten the first UE mission (rescue the defector off of Pax) before completing either. It's actually possible to get the first Voinian mission while you're on Pax picking up the defector, though it's rare.
However, once you've completed one or the other, it's impossible to get the other mission set without changing the game files.
I don't think the same thing applies to the Emalgha missions. They're essentially independent of any other string. Emalgha only ties into the main series of missions once you return to Earth, they don't require UE missions to get.
I may be wrong about the Emalgha, though. It's been years since I've played on the "Good Guys'" side; I prefer to play the RotV plugins.
As for how to land at Voinian systems, I recommend hanging around Vorik or Avann and blowing up the random UE Destroyers and Carriers that come into the system. It works best with a Crescent Warship, if you have the credits for that, though a bit of luck and an FC might be enough to peg enough Destroyers and Fighters to allow you to land and start getting other Voinian missions.

Hey, hi LV. Long time no see, you're still the same evil Voinian-lover.... This topic might interest you, if you have the time...
EDIT: Double Post, my bad.

Hey Pedro,
I don't think I'm quite as evil any more. It's sadly been a very long time since I've had a chance to play any EVO (other than the Nova conversion, and I refuse to count that.:)) I read through that thread already and thought that it was possibly the most awesome thing I've read this month. It's great to get a peek behind the scenes like that and see what the background of EVO was.
Anyhow, I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have, but still, it's great to be back here.

As for how to land at Voinian systems
Trade secret that applies to almost every faction in the game (this works everywhere except
Spoiler
Freeport, Gorky, and Pariah
To gain faction with whoever you want other than the aforementioned, go to
an Independent human world
and accept a generic
bounty hunting
mission from the bar. Instead of completing it, go to
within two jumps of where you want to be able to land
and
kill the auxilliary Renegade ships that follow
you.
Jump or land so they reappear
kill them
again.
Repeat until
you can land where you want.
A very similar thing works to land where the above doesn't work, you just go to
an Independent strandless world
to begin instead.

Urm, thanks ____ and ___, that was very ____. I'm not quite sure what ____ means though or why it was necessary to ___ ___'s ____s. What I did in the end was restart from scratch, since I wanted to save up enough for a crescent warship. I'm only playing for the "good" guys now but I am having trouble destroying the Voinan dreadnought. What's the trick? Incidentally, a strange thing happened just after I was given the cloaking device - there was a short power cut (IRL) and so my mac shut down of course. When I rebooted it a few minutes later I got an error message when I started EV (I am using Nova to play Override). Everything still worked except - my cloaking device had disappeared. Any way to get it back? I played Override for many years on my old Mac and have recently come back to it after playing through Nova. IMO Override is better - there is a greater range of different missions and scenarios. I guess that's the start of a new discussion thread though.
The Dreadnought is basically just hard to kill. Its primary defenses are armor, so pick weapons that are good at taking down armor; phase cannons are definitely not the way to go there. Other than that, just get good at avoiding its weapons. The Monty Python Maneuver will likely also come in handy. Finally, you may be able to bribe the fighters to get them to leave you alone; give that a shot.
As for the cloaking device, I seem to recall there being some bug with the default EVO plugin for EVN; have you tried using Guy's fixed version?
Thanks for the tip about the bug in the EVO plug in; I found a similar comment in the archives of this group. Where can I download the fixed version please?

There's absolutely no reason for you to go toe-to-toe against the dreadnought. Take the advice of the others, and stock up on either neutron, emalgha, or blaze. Purchase a couple rocket launchers, and stock up on ammo.
When you jump in, go for everything except the dreadnought. The destroyers should be able to handle it if you take care of it's escorts. Disable the fighters, steal their rockets, and capture the ones you can.the dreadnought gets easier when you have near limitless ammunition.
