Did anybody manage to perhaps run Uplink under CrossOver and apply the FBI mod?

There is a difference between a "mod" and a "DevCD mod." You have, thus far, failed to note the distinctions. Things like themes, extra gateways, &c. are simple mods that replace the data files in Uplink. With the right tools and know-how, anyone can make one and install it over any version of Uplink (Mac, Windows, or Linux). However, DevCD mods (or dev mods) are those mods that are created by modifying the source code of Uplink. Introversion Software, the company that wrote and developed Uplink, sells the source code for (I think) Ł30. When you buy the source code (the DevCD), you agree that you will only distribute DevCD mods for Windows or Linux. Thus, it is illegal to distribute Mac versions of DevCD mods. Thanks to the recent updates, it is possible that this might change in the near future, but I would not hold your breath.
Thanks xander for that explanation, you are quite right there.
Interesting to know that. Now couldn't it maybe possible to release a freeware Uplink for Mac, based on the source code, but with a different name.
See Onlink for example is really sophisticated, and progressing a lot, especially for the Mac:

A theme is different from a mod. A theme just involves modifying the graphics and is doable, along with new gateways.
A mod involves changing the game's actual code to add things.
Hm.... well that doesn't follow the usual game conventions... (i. e. Quake, Medal of Honor, Blitzkrieg...)
Plus, say that was true, where does this come from then?:
This updated version, free to registered users of Uplink, (...)
Uplink 1.6.1 features the following improvements and changes:
-- Restored compatibility with Mods
-- Fixed an issue where with large world map.
-- Various bug fixes and enhancements

Unfortunately, the problem is legal, rather than technical. Dev CD mods are only allowed to run on Windows and Linux.
So why then has the Ambrosia Uplink the Theme preferences?
Screenshot by pressing F9
I don't know whether it was already described in the new documentation or whether it even was intended.
Pressing the function key F9 during game play, takes a screen-shot in the following directory: ~/Library/Application Support/Uplink/screenshot.bmp
Well, unfortunately it only always replaces the original, so no sequential shots, but nevertheless it's actually pretty awesome, don't know why nobody else discovered that?....
Speaking of mods, though... seems they don't seem to work the same way as they used to, i.e. my custom gateways don't appear in the game when I install them as I did before. What gives?
**To install mods
1. Right-click the application and go to "Show package contents" 2. Go to Conents -> Resources (there you'll find everything you need)
**To save or install users
1. Go to Home -> Library -> Application Support -> Uplink 2. Check files with ending ".usr"
(Note: As from the PC update, old users from previous version prior to 1.6 won't work anymore )

The timing for this couldn't be better. Check out what I'm working on for my final project in my Comp Sci class (learning assembly)
Pretty neat xel!
What exactly changed from version 1.3.4 to 1.6
I am thrilled to know what exactly changed (history)!
So MacUpdate says a couple of things and they are noticeable mostly.
But what about the game content updates, what exactly is new here?
Are we going to see the FBI hack for the mac?
Dam it, these dev mods should definitely be integrated into the new upgrade!!
