I think aradas suck compared to other ships. When i had one for a short space of time doing the Adzgari (sorrey about spelling if it's wroung) missions and didn't see why they were so good I prefer Freight carriers because the have more turrets and I like blasting people with turrts.
------------------
Well, I like using an Arada as an intermediate ship before I go to a Lazira because it's quite upgradeable, like a computer with a dozen PCI slots and 4 AGP slots (I wish they made one like that). You can turn it into a cargo ship via cargo pods (not the best way to use an Arada though), but it's better to turn it into a heavy fighter.
Try this: Sell the four phase cannons and buy these items:
1 mass expansion 4 swivel phase cannons RCS Upgrade Thrust Enhancement Engine Upgrade 4 Shield Capacitors 2 ramscoops 2 external fuel tanks Plus all the non-mass items you'd get anyway (Color radar, size-difference radar, EMC system, sensor upgrade, etc.)
This is what I generally do when I get an Arada, then once I've accumulated enough credits to purchase a Lazira AND fully upgrade it, I get one of those. After that, I get an Igazra.
------------------ One cannot walk down an avenue, converse with a friend, enter a building, browse beneath the sandstone arches of old towns without meeting with an instrument of time.
Time is visible in all places.
Clock towers, wristwatches, church bells divide years into months, months into days, days into hours, hours into seconds, each increment of time marching after the other in perfect succession. And beyond any particular clock, a vast scaffold of time, stretching across the universe, lays down the law of time equally for all.
In this world, a second is a second is a second.
Time moves forward with unwavering regularity.
Time is an infinite ruler.
Time is absolute.
That's nearly the same as my configuration.
Anyway, the reason I like Aradas is that with some tinkering, they can be just about any type of ship you want. Aradas can be maneuverable enough that you don't need turrets. If you get swivel phase cannons, just so long as you stay generally oriented towards your target, you can hit them. With a speed upgrade, the only ships that can touch you are the Azdaras and the Crescent fighters.
I think the reason I like Aradas and you don't is that you like turrets, and I don't. They are nice, but I prefer to kill things using my skill as a pilot, not the target tracking of the computer.

I agree. I think that Aradas can be upgraded pretty well for combat. I ushally get four swivle phase cannons, some doposect armor, 2 pursuit missle launchers, or if i'm working for the Zidagar 1 prusuit missle launcher and a phased beam, RCS, engine, speed upgrades, and all the normal stuff. Since the last person listed the normal stuff, i'm not going to list it again. You might need a few mass expansions to get all that stuff, but you're not outfitting it for trading anyway.
Well this is usually my line of ships. Shuttle (of course), Scoutship, UE fighter, arada, UE Destroyer, UE Cruiser. The arada is very nice. Imagine a Scoutships jumping ability, the speed of a UE fighter, the cargo of a UE Cruiser (well almost), and the upgradeability of a UE Cruiser. It is a pretty nice ship. It is just nice (because of what was mentioned above) that you can customize it any way you want it. That's why there are so many types of aradas (Idgazra, Azdagari, Renegade, Merchant, Zachit, Reg.) :).

I got my Arada at one of the renegade planets in the south, and named it "LAstronef Marchand" (the Merchant Starship). I love it, and it's the reason I still play 1.0.1 sometimes. I never planned to trade it in. I play as a trader, and my Arada has: Cargo space IFF Decoder Scanners ECM Fuel Scoop 2 Emalghian cannons 2 of whatever cannons it came with (you can tell I don't fight much, huh?) Pursuit missile launcher & missiles (mostly for defense) Afterburner And I think I may have bought a cargo expansion and extra shielding, but I can't remember. (I'm not at MY computer right now. I actually just finished playing a bit of EV--with the Mugabi and Destiny for her plug-in--co-operatively--we decide what to do together, but I do the keyboard stuff--with my Mom!) Jude

Shuttle-Scoutship/Helian/Miranu Courier/Miranu Freighter-Arada-Lazira-Voinian Cruiser/Igazra.
Normally it ends with the Igazra.
Well, I usually go Shuttle, Scoutship, Arada, Lazira, (if I side with the Ziggys, then I get a Zidara), UE Cruiser.
About the Arada, I usually get: 4 Swivel Phase Cannons 2 Dipsy Rocket Launchers+ some Dipsy Rockets A Mass Expansion The usual stuff (sensor upgrades, Fuel stuff, sheild upgrades, ect.)
Thats about it.

bah, crescent ships suck. they are all sheilds, no armour. i prefer the voinian/UE cruiser with extra armour and sheilds. the only good crecent ships are: adzgari warship, azdara (with all sheild upgrades) and the Igazra. so ha!
i can take out 3 Igazra's with my voinian cruiser too
Here's mine: Shuttle, Scoutship, Frieght Courier and then UE Cruiser.

Servack, I note that use the Dipsy Rockets. Why not use the LaLa Mines instead, I find them much more useful.
I generally go Shuttle/Scoutship/Arada/Crescent Warship/UE Cruiser
Try an Arada with
4 sw phase-cannons dispy rocket launcher. and as many Dispy rockets as you can find 2 Fuel Tanks thrust, RCS, engine upgrades 2 Mass Expansions 3 Shield Enhancers
If you're Zidara, add a phase-beam If you're Adzgari, add an Adzgari Up-grade, and a shield generator
