I found something interesting last night while screwing around..
If you have a ship with a cloaking device and a desent fuel regeneration rate.. so as you can stay cloaked for a while it is possible to take over a planet without threat..
You launch Fighters then go cloak.. the dedicated enemies then freeze on screen they wont fire or move..
you target them with your fighters and kill them.. they dont shoot back either at the fighters or you..!!

Heh; it's not a bug, just something that Matt Burch overlooked... it's not very honest, but it works, I guess.

It's not all that necessary, really. If you have enough fighters, you can use the more honest (still sneaky, though) method. Fly about 2-3 screens away from the stellar. Launch all fighters. Demand tribute. Have your fighters attack ships as they come at you.
Ships which are launched to defend their planet will not stop to attack back against the fighters. Any ship which manages to run this gauntlet will almost certainly be very weakened by the time it gets to you, and easy pickings.

I have tried this, only I didn't do it very well. It helps if your ship is fast, and you have a lot of fighter escorts.

your ship doesn't have to be fast, that's the point. I do it in a UE Cruiser. Admittedly, I do have a heck of a lot of fighters (6 Azdaras and 5 UE Fighters), and 6 good escorts to start with. Even so, versus weaker planets, I've done with less fighters. If the enemy ships are getting through too often, then move back. Keep moving back until you can simply hit "r" followed by "f" and get rid of about 90% of the ships coming at you.
Heh.. I like that.. I keep meaning to switch to try a UE Cruiser.. But I like my modified Turncoat..
Ah well..
Man, no offence, but Turncoats SUCK!!!!! Even a mod-UE Destroyer will kill one. Upgrade to a Lazira or someting, as you will probaly last a lot longer in combat.

Yeah, or upgrade to a Shuttlecraft or something. Hehe, I'm just teasing you.
Seriously, though. If you think a Turncoat is cool, then the UE Destroyer will blow your mind. Hehe...
Well actually that strategy doesnt really work that well if the defending ships have a lot of secondary weapons like missiles. You will get pummled before your fighters can destroy them. But against ships like Aradas or Kraits it works great.

Well, I haven't really had a whole lot of experience with this, but so far the easiest solution to problems with my strategy is to back up more, giving your fighters more space/time to get rid of the attackers. The missiles can only be fired from a certain distance, after all...
If your ship is fast, Its easier to pick off any fighters that get through, if your escorts are destroyed. Besides, it never hurts to be fast and maneuverable.

Ah Grasshopper.. But you dont see when I said modified I meant with a Cheat plug.. I just used the turncoat for the lines.. I only recently started playing it legitimately..
I had used a infinite all cheater to make a turncoat with 8 turrets Cloaking device and an Adzara bay with 20 Adzara's.. not too mention a turn rate of 210 accel of 600 top speed 400.. But I recently got bored and started over playing without cheats at all..
in my legit game I'm using a crescent warship at this point.. I still hate the fighters but the ship is pretty nice..
