Favorite Part of EV:O

In an attempt to create a total conversion plug-in, I thought I'd ask those of you who also play the game (and seem to have some strong opinions) what is your favorite and/or least favorite parts of EV:O

(Note: I'm not asking for technical assistance, yet (anywhere) or at all (on this board...)

Please consider both the specific scenario (UE, Voinians, Miranu, Strands, etc.) in EV:O and the entire concept of the game.

To ask specific questions:

What does EV:O have too little of (combat, missions, cool planets, interesting descriptions of... well... STUFF)?

What does EV:O have too much of, that is, where does the game get dull?

Finally, if anyone abandoned a plug-in project after making any ship graphics (or, for that matter, decided not to use a certain graphic or graphics) and still has them, send them to me (please?) and I'll include a persona in the game or remark in the read-me about you, wheter or not your graphics appear in the plug itself.

Thank ya'll.

------------------

This isn't my favorite part, but in EVO, I really admire the ship graphics, they are colorful and unique. I can't believe I just said that. But really, the ships look a lot better than in any other plug I've seen.

Well, I personally think that EV:O needs more complicated, mind-bending (read:PUZZLES) missions that actually make you think, around the lines of the Frozen Heart or Beyond the Crescent Plugs. Furthermore, I liked the Nebulae and United Earth missions. They were the most intresting. You should also make some things that take advantage of version one point two, like giving turrets blind spots.

"Where'd you get those
coconuts?"

I'd like a way around the first quarter of the game where you are just a boring merchant making cargo delivery runs. Maybe a mission bit that gets flagged in the game itself, and allows new pilots to make more money starting out, thus making it easier to bring a pilot file up to speed. Strict players could, of course, turn this off.

As for what I like, I like the Strand war, and wish that there were more of it to do. I don't know of someone has done this already, but I'd like to see a plug which goes further with the whole thing.

I also like beating up on Renegades, 'cause I hate them.

I really liked the strand war storyline. I'd love to be able to blow up a planet (ala deathstar), and see more interesting planets, instead of just another "bleak, desolate world"

I'd also love to see more ship types, and more planets per system. And better graphics. If there was something out there with Magma-like graphics, but with waaaaaaay more ship types, then I'd love it.

I like practically everything about Override. I just wish that there were more descriptions. I always wondered what the aliens looked like. The game leaves too much to the imagination, but maybe that's how Matt Burch intended it.

Actually, that's not Matt Burch. That is a decision on the part of the game scenario designers (Peter Cartwright). Therefore, you can easily make a plug that changes all that. Go! Now! Do it, I say! 😉

About the ship limit... there are certain limits in EVOm like maximum of 64 ship classes. This cannot be changed with a plug.

Another neat thing which (as I understand it) could be implemented now, is to have a plug where you found your own colonies. Like, maybe, someone would approach you and say "<your name>, we are thinking about colonizing the planet <DST>. My company has lined up enough colonists to get it going, so if you want a part, all you would need to do is provide the funding. We need 5M credits to start, and may require more later. Are you interested?"

After that, you would transport the colonists to the planet, and 5 million credits would disappear from your wallet. Then, it might be pretty cool if the planet started off with your legal status as overlord, and they gave you tribute (but they didn't send bounty hunters after you - I do not know if that's possible). Then you could see some of the following missions, maybe more:

*The colony is being attacked, and you must defend it. Failure to do so results in the colony disappearing.

*They want some money for research. After paying a certain ammount, they would come up with an outfit and or ship which cannot be bought anywhere else.

*Transport more colonists from various locations on in.

*Bring supplies for projects in. Both this and the colonists missions could result in more commodities, higher tech level, etc. for the planet.

And that's just a few ideas off the top of my head. Maybe you could colonise a series of planets and create your own government! Then you could get into a whole other plot of a war against another government! Someone needs to make this plug, because I have no idea how to do it (and don't particularly want to, to be honest... hehe).

I don't know about the later stuff, but in my TC, 'Discovery', the humans have only just started sending ships into space, and you are one of the exploeres. One of the first missions involves discovering a good planet for coloniazation, and then actualy helping to colonise it. It also brings more of the galaxy. Very little becomes availible to you, and you gain about 15 or so systems in the first few missions untile you are finaly told that the exploring and colonisation is over, it all becomes availible to you, and you are set out to discover the galaxy. Also, I have made a very, very clever twist, that depending on which planet you find, two very different things happen, but that shall be for you to find out...

Also, I believe that in 1.0.2 the game can take away credits from you, so your idea isn't an impossible concept for those with time and imagination. I would do it, but while I have the imagination, I have not the time. sorry.

EVO needs definatly more descriptions. The EV galaxy was all human, exept the Alien race,in which you see very little of, so description is not really needed. However, in EVO, there are many alien races with little or no despcription.

EVO is great but when you complete all the central objectives, which there are 6, it gets boring. After playing for UE, Miranu, and each of the Strands, the ret sucks. Not enough missions for the renegades, Voinians or Strandless. Emalgha can count as UE.

About the graphics, when/if I finish my TC, I may have one or two graphics left over, but it is up to Admiral Zombat, the maker of these graphics, if he wants to give them away...

It sounds like MisterT enjoyed the Paaren Station mission string. Most of your ideas are taken from the Paaren mission string, so, to emulate Jive320, cough,cough,rip-off,cough,cough.

I agree. I love the strand war. I wish I coul finish off the friggin' other strands and have the Azdi's rule the universe!! As you know, the strand war stops before it's finished. That would be cool if you could finish the war.

I also want more renegade missions. I love kickin' the $#!+ out of those @$$ holes!! It's fun to get payback on the ones that kept killing you when you were just starting out :D.

Yes, MisterT's idea is quite good. Since I am (hopefully) participating in Thousand Worlds, I'll see if anyone wants to incorporate it.

I liked exploring the galaxy.....but I liked whipping the pirates with my "wimpy" lil ship better..and capturing or destroying their vessels after taking their creds..Right now I'm playing Femme Fatale and I love the evolving storyline in it..this is also why I liked Frozen Heart...but one of the missions involves a murder investigation, and all you do is fly around collecting info..there's no real "investigation" to it; I'd like to at least have the option of royally fouling up....not that I need any help when it comes to that...

Umm... OK. I don't see how I'm ripping anything off. The Paaren Station string isn't about colonization, you don't have to defend it, transport anything more than equipment there, you never pay money to start or improve it, or anything. You don't gain control or have an integral part in the management of it, and most importantly, it is a mission string set up for you by another government, rather than a mission string which would eventually establish a new (your) government.

Admittedly, I did take the general concept of this from someone else (a post a month ago or so), which stuck in my head. I liked it, expanded upon it, and posted it here. But as for ripping off from the Paaren string, I don't know what you're smoking, boy.
