You're quite welcome to turn them off if you don't like them - we even provided you with a handy checkbox in the preferences dialog for that very purpose.

Contrails work as long as you have a half decent computer. My LC475 runs them fine. What are you running, a Classic or something. Get a new computer and stop whining

The 1.0.2 engine supports turning off smoke trails, but there's no way to turn them off because the check box was removed from the DITL, all you need to do is Replace the "prefs" DITL in the public release of EVO, with the one from the fc4 semi-public beta
and yes it works!
