Some of you may be aware that me and ColdFusoin are going to make an Escape Velocity: Override RPG, in the same style as Realmz and Exile. We shall achive this with the wonderful tool Coldstone ( (url="http://"http://www.beenox.com")www.beenox.com(/url) ). This is such a wonderful tool, I started making the game tonight, and I already have some of the interface done! Don't worry though, the game won't be a pile of crap just becuase it's being created in a WYSIWYG programme, I belive that it will be an extremely good RPG (but then I would say that as I thought up the idea:P).
Now the only problem is (don't laugh), we haven't got a plot. Does anyopne have any ideas about a possibly story line? We'll be including more than one I think, as well as a mission computer type thing were you can get little quests to complete. I think the game will be less like Zelda 64 and Final Fantasy series and more of a free roaming plot were the next path isn' exactly clear until you get deep into the game. Even then there will still be smaller quests and stuff in case you get stuck and bored. If you could think of any cool EV style plots that could fit in with the game engine, then that would be brilliant and you would get high praise in the credits.
We would also like some graphic artist that could help with game sprites sich as NPCs (non-player-characters) and scenery and terrain. The game is going to be predominatly 2D, so no complex 3D stuff is needed, just some good Photosop skills. Any other support such as mission writing, proof reading (once we have a script) and testing (once we have a game ;)) would be great asset to the game.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Man walks into a bar...you finish it
Well as someone in someother post said how about putting it at least at the beggining having your character running about catching space flights to other planets like in Escape Velocity only have it in like a overlooking for like Grand Theft Auto is set up (game name) and put my name somewhere in thie obviously long list of credits as being one of the first to reply to your recent post.

Hmmmmmmmm........... A plot you say? I always thought that a good war would be needed to inspire our new young pilot to take a part in it. However, I was always interested in wars that didn't have a complete evil freak in it. In EVO the Voinians are some bad mother (watch your mouth!). Anyways, what I mean is, try to have two sides with simply different opinions that just mutated into pure hatred against the other side. This gives a way to branch out into either one side or the other. Maybe even a third group trying to stop this war could could be put into play. Another major idea for this plot is that each side must have allies, preferably other races from other worlds. This way you could gain more technology from an opposite side by persuading the allies into your side.
Of course you could either be a part of this war (which I now pronounce Great Space War XII) or be a simple trader with some company.
Remember the second person who answered you (and possibly the creator of the basis of the game ;)) when you are making those credits ;).

I don't see why a war is something neccesary. Unlike EV and EV:O, you could make a scenario in which the galaxy is at peace, but maybe some things or people are threatening a war and you can either stop them or aid them to change the story immensely. Just some thoughts tr
One question, wouldn't it be some sort of copyright infringement to make an Override rpg? I assume you seeked permission from Ambrosia... Just curious because I'm interested in this RPG stuff too tr
It would only be copyright infringement if we released the game once it was finished. If we do, we will ask Ambrosia's permission first

As to respond to tommanr (sp?), I just think a war pulls some stories together. It certainly isn't a neccesity.
I have another suggestion to. It would be cool if you were a slave (like the Hinwar) who escaped and is trying to free his race.

How about getting new races into the picture that could either be violent or peaceful, or maybe a whole new galaxy has been opened after you meet these new race(s)? Just some thoughts

I was talking to my friend in art class the other day, and he had a great idea for a plot.
"You have been sent out by an alien race (not in the EV:O game) to get help for your race. The sun in your solar system is going to go supernova, and you need advanced scientific thingymabobs to cure it. You are plunged into the EV:O galaxy. As you progress further and further into the game, it becomes clear to you that a highly advanced alien tribe is the reason why your suns going supernova (One of those kill every thing Borg type race). You have to somehow gather a force to try and stop the aliens, but help from a single government isn't enough, you need to unite the strand worlds, and call upon the help of the mystical council..."
This amy not be the final plot, but it's the best contedor so far. Let me hear your opinions (I may also make an EV:O plug of it once I've done the RPG).
A group of toothless termites walk into the bar. They look at te guy behind the counter and say: "Bar tender?"
How will you explain the magic system in ColdStone? I don't think Magic works in a Sci-Fi universe.

Simple, we won't use magic, it won't be hard to work around it. Servack, can you use Coldstone? Would you like to help us?
