Okay i said this idea before in the "cluster bomb" post but I believe it can be done.
How about having a weapon detonate at a certain time/distance/whatever and spawn a determinable number of another weapon, which acts as the submunition.
The submunition could be defined as and even used as a separate weapon in a plugin.
Here's my design for my cluster bomb again:
Cluster Bomb = turreted dumbfire submunitioning rocketflak
Shield damage: 4 (comes out to 5)
Hull damage: 4 (comes out to 5
Submunition type+#: 4 Cluster babies
Cluster Baby = a homing missile that homes in on your target automaticaly but only comes in cluster bomb form.
Not with the current engine, or with 1.02. You may be able to do something with a ship though, using the new ammo type, (-999) where the firing ship blows up. Launch the ship, set its turn rate to 0, and its speed to 0 or something. Give it a special weapon, with ammo type -999. The thing that won't work, is the time limit, having the ship fire it at the right time is kind of hard.
But then it wont spawn the submunitions. I mean for it to spawn submunitions when it detonates.
Oh yeah and i didnt mean I believed it would work NOW or with 1.0.2. I meant for a future version, maybe 1.0.3 or 1.1, if and when it gets to that high a number. 1.0.3 probably

1.0.2 is the last update to the EVO engine, accorting to Matt Burch. Of course, you can beg Ambrosia to put this feature into EV3, or just ask kberg to put it into the quasi-EVMP he's making now (that is, when he starts doing weapon support).

Hmm. Now i get what Chamrin was talkin about, it would launch a ship (which is supposed to be a missle/cluster bomb) that would launch all of its warheads at once and then kill itself with a -999 gun. Nooowwwww i get it.
OOH and as an added bonus you can shoot the clusterbombs down! I might make a normal bomb like that too, with a heavy splash damage ultra-short range suicide gun. After all i am the Mad Bomber >
