Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy Plug-In?

Just read the book again for (literally) the fiftieth time and am wondering...
Would a plug-in work or just be too grandiose?

And exactly how would that plugin work?

I don't know, perhaps just a couple of ships, and outfits. It would kick ass
to drive the heart of gold around sol, use the improbability drive and suddenly appear in
Mira.

"Your attack has been rendered harmless.
It is, however, quite pretty"

Nevertheless, it would still have to be a big plug, if you want to include some of that good features(although that improbability drive is, I think, impossible.)

No, just highly improbable 🙂

OK, snap survey. Who didn't see that one coming?

If you didn't, you're not really a Hitchiker's fan. But anyway, the Infinite Improbability drive could work, which I'll describe in a moment. But I have to say that the map, then, would not really show the galaxy at all. Just something like a bunch of systems on top of each, so you're not sure where to click, and all interconnected weirdly.

Or something like this: many versions of each systems, each with different hyper-connections, whose VisBits are activated or deactivated by random cargo missions, or buying ammo (this would require EVO 1.0.2). This would be a pain to make, and not infinitely improbable either. Just very. 😉

I saw that coming....
The idea of an HHGG page had occurred to a friend of mine -- I'll have to see what happened to that.

However, I could imagine the infinite improb. drive being a serious problem....

Heh, Douglas Adams is enough of a Mac Activist that he might just write up mission scripts himself. 🙂

The plug is a great idea, try and use obormots second idea with the visbits... That seems like it would work w/o causing injuries related to massive amounts of mouse clicking.

I guess you'd pretty much have to fudge the time aspect though... Maybe give the time in Spob descriptions and mission text?

It could never work. You canÂ’t transfer something cool in a book to something cool in EVO without huge loss of, well, cool I guess. ItÂ’s just like people making movies from really good books: it usually just doesnÂ’t work.

I don't suppose we'll know until we try, will we? I might set up a scheme to do the visbit thing if I have time. Anybody wants to do the body of the plug?

By the way, I think the missions could be very cool. "Save Earth from the Vogons - an infinite number of times! They just keep coming back!"
