Hey......3D EV Conversion?

The people that made Bugdom and Nanosaur have 3DMF editing tools (so do other 3d programs)
F/A-18 Hornet uses 3DMF models.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Totally mission-based but still 3D EV!
Converting the models to 3DMF would be easy, just making sure to include the right ships (we can't have all of them) to replace the planes, both to have a balance and to have the ship models match the plane physics. Does this sound cool and/or possible?

But how? The Exobattle engine supports 3DMF, but it's far from 3D EV. And the problems are simply huge - if not as daunting as the difficulties associated with multiplayer EV. Read my "Not EV3D, but EV for Exobattle" subject far, far back in either the banter & brawl or EV boards to get the details of another proposal I had.

I'm thinking just a EV 3D battle simulator. I could edit the sounds, change the backrounds, maybe re-model some missles, then import some EVO models (This would require figuring out if you need seperate models for movable surfaces, I don't think so)
This is kind of a boring-summer-day project.
Take a look at the Hornet 3.0 demo, see if you could imagine that.

Oops---
And the mission editor in Korea would be most useful.
I could create pirate hunting missions, bombing hideouts, escorting freighters (I could make those using the helicopter physics, replacing the Chinook model with a UE Freighter model)
I may try editing the whole map model, maybe having it take place on a specific planet---perhaps I could make a station out of the carrier by seating the station model on top of a really thin little leg, to raise it up (as I believe the bottom of the model of ships is level with the water) so the station would appear to be floating.
The Hawaii training map changed to replace the Korea or Kuwait maps would be useful; the islands could have numerous possibilities. THAT make it sound a little more plausible?

Something a little more plausible (and much cheaper and quicker) would be to make the sprites using BSP's, like in Avara. Just with altered physics and such. That way it would be feasible for net play for those of us who cant afford to upgrade the modem.

After all the Voinian fighter would be pretty easy to do. 🙂

Oh right. And the gameplay would have to be altered somewhat, but it's a good, quick way to improve on a pre-existing 3D engine.

Using the stuff from Hornet would violate copyrights anyway, and would be too laggy for multiplayer (unless it is de-lagged quite a bit or the ppl involved all have ISDN or cable or something).

Yeah, I was imagining something roughly like that, though more like X-Wing or Ares, based on the existing Exobattle engine, which ain't half bad (by Matt Burch, too). Did you read the topic I reccomended?
