Hi all. Where is this blacksmiththat I am supposed to get to make this confounded shield? The quest log says "south of Gidolan Keep. The place is crawling with Giants, but I dodge them OK, but I cannot find this blacksmith?

Starting in the square, where you early found the thief of the book -> go south, two squares. And then search in the woods. You must cross a river (from north to south), then you are on the right way.

its 3 screens south from were the thief was, yet I think its better to go around, since that route goes through the heart of giant country.

Yep. THREE squares, not two. My mistake, Sorry. And yes, the more easier way is, from the same square out going: one east, three south, one west.

Yeah, but where is that square with the thief? I forgot. Where is it in relation to one of the tunnels or landmarks?
