Sparks, Nobody, I agree with both of you. I hang around in spurts now, although this is one. It's been three and a half years and it's never been like this.
And Nobody is right, this is the worst way for the boards to go.
------------------ One cannot walk down an avenue, converse with a friend, enter a building, browse beneath the sandstone arches of old towns without meeting with an instrument of time.
Time is visible in all places.
Clock towers, wristwatches, church bells divide years into months, months into days, days into hours, hours into seconds, each increment of time marching after the other in perfect succession. And beyond any particular clock, a vast scaffold of time, stretching across the universe, lays down the law of time equally for all.
In this world, a second is a second is a second.
Time moves forward with unwavering regularity.
Time is an infinite ruler.
Time is absolute.

The last strain of intelligent thought on any of the EV boards died under the pressure of a thousand whiny, self-centered newbies well over a year ago. Maybe two, it's hard to say. If you put two weasels in a box, one weasel will kill the other. Unless they're severely retarded, in which case they'll simply sit there and insult each other for hours on end. Which proves my point about the board. Actually it doesn't, but the fact that my above paragraph made no sense at all doesn't deter from the fact that you're all a bunch of morons, and that the lot of you and all the egocentric preteen ****s like you should die in a horribly painful shooting spree committed by the last sane person on earth. That much said, I think this board is a lovely place for children of ages nine to twelve to become totally obsessed with stupidities, inflate their egos by telling everyone their IQ score and how much of a genius they must be, and in all other ways become idiots I'll have to deal with in my every day life.
Also note that any replies made to this message won't reach me, because frankly I don't give a flying **** at the moon as to what anyone says on this board. You're all a bunch of self-centered little pricks who are completely and totally sure that they are the chosen ones, and that the world is out to get them because it's jealous of their overpowering greatness... and why not? You are completely justified in belittling others as long as you can take over Sol, or whatever the **** it is you think you can do. No matter how long you stay here you will be newbies, because frankly some people are just newbies for life. There are exceptions... occasionally one of you is even cool. But it won't be you, most likely.
Oh, and CF... calling someone a Nazi is perhaps the most cliché insult still in existance, save perhaps "doody head". It screams "I think I'm an intellectual!" However, you're moderately cool, unlike most of these people, so I won't penalize you too heavily for it.
Additionally, this message probabaly won't be here long anyway, because Andrew Welch is Hitler.**
As if talking about cheese and "(o)(o) boobies" is highly intelligent? That fight between Nash and Rebel was oh so mature, right? Now I, since their beginning, have said these boards were the final death of the EV community, but lashing out on "you're all a bunch of morons, and that the lot of you and all the egocentric preteen ****s" -assumingly EVERYONE- is just as bad as what the newbies are doing.
And as if your post isn't just as bad as the rest of the egocentric "preteen ****s" you were just denouncing.
Hypocrite.

Mikee, shut up. You're way out of your depth - all three of those people have been around for easily twice as long as me. With the possible exception of Forge and Sparks' sexual fetishes and Nobody being himself, they're easily a high portion of the remaining sanity around here.

Could I have an order of Discboard with that?

I agree. However, just lashing out and blaming everyone isn't the solution. I even agree with most of what Spark's said, and all the Forge and Nobody said.
Just the way sparks said it... was wrong.

Actually, the role of web board moderation is in the hands of the EV/EVO community -- I'll be appointing 3 new admins today who will take care of those duties. I waited a week at the request of the present admins.

Why do you hate these boards, they arn´t so bad. Don´t you see that it is you that make these boards bad, posting topics about how bad the board is "it can`t get worse". Doing that won´t make it better, it will only make it worse. So stop doing it and ignore ass**** as CHMD. ---------------------------------- If it´s quality software you can read "Made with Macintosh"
------------------
People always seem to point to the newbies as the cause of the spam, and then complain that the Admins are not doing a good enough job getting rid of spam. The truth is, there would be no spam, if you the complainers didn't complain about it and draw attention to it, giving the spammers what they want, and an incentive to do it again just to see the havoc they can create.
People should look around, and see what they can do besides pointing the finger, and what they can do to help. Because if you are not apart of the solution, then you are apart of the problem. The solution is ignoring spam, and letting the admins deal with it. The problem arises from people complaining about it. The less you respond to spam the quicker it falls into the depths of the message board.
Lets analyze who is generating more spam. The nickname CHMD comes up quite often, in reality, he's only posted 41 times. Also mx big kestrel who's only posted 52 times. Compared to those who are demanding for these two to be banned, they have posted only a small amount. All of the posts started by these two HAVE been EV/O related, and while their spelling and grammer may need improvement, as well as their choice of words, they still stay on topic more often. The only time they go off topic these days is when someone goes and insults them. MXBK has not even responded to insults recently. CHMD only asked "Why he was an idiot"
Most people here aren't helping the solution by ignoring spam posts, instead they add to the problem by posting more spam under new threads. They insult people that have offended the EV/O community or themselves before, and then create a flame war. The point is, we need to forgive people and give them a chance. Remember Rebel? Recently he came for a visit and was immediately banned from #ev, they never gave him a chance to talk. I talked with him for a while after, and he has changed, he's not trying to create problems for others, but others are creating problems for him. When people do that, the person affected tends to do what the crowd expects him to do, and fight back and create more disruptions.
So get rid of your grudges, ignore spam, thats the best way to fix the problems here, you do your part, I will do mine. The responsibility lies with everyone, including you.

A side note, the quotes in the next post, were correct, I just went through and rewrote the message making it more clear.

Newbies CAUSE the intial problem, but alot of idiots only add to it by flaming back. So, one might conclude that had the newbies not flamed, they wouldn't have flamed back = no trouble
But for once, maybe people should look around, and see what they can do besides pointing the finger, and what they can do to help. Because if you are not apart of the solution, then you are apart of the problem.
Working on several productive projects at the moment....
The solution is ignoring spam, and letting the admins deal with it. I agree this spam isn't good and there is too much of it, but lets look at who's posting it, everyone hates CHMD, but in reality he has only started 4 threads in the first 4 pages, 3 of which people have answered the question completely in only 1 or 2 responses. The fourth, caused no harm, was only a comparison of two ships, no one was insulted in it, no one even complained about it.
He posted THIRTY times the first day. He declared that Andrew M had no life, he was more intelligent than any of us and other mindless rants. He basically came out an said, "I'm an ******* ". How do you EXPECT people to act towards people who insult them and show up to cause trouble?
Instead, people still go around saying, "the board is in ruins", in fact the board is better now than it was for most of the life of the old disc board, and I've been here long enough to know.
Bugs, no HTML, constant ****-throwing and newbies posting total nonsense... much better. I don't think seniority has any effect on one being intouch with actual reality...

I certainly believe in giving chances, but rebel WAS the one who would not apoligize at the beginning. But, why should we allow people to paste "penis" 50 times in a row just because they might be able to change? I have tolerance, but people who are purposely causing trouble should be removed.
So get rid of your grudges, ignore spam, thats the best way to fix the problems here, the responsibility lies with everyone, including you.
I do my best....

Of course these boards aren't bad. Getting hit over the head is bad. The thing is, these boards SUCK... in that they killed the old EV/O community. The bugs, no HTML, no images, constant flames... The old boards were awesome, these boards are "not good".
Maby not, but they are the only ones. -------------------------------------- If it´s quality software you can read "Made with Macintosh"
What exactly are you all fighting about? I haven't been with this board long enough to know, but it seem that you all are resorting to the mindless insults you are denouncing. Please get on with your lives, and don't anyone dare post a reply to this message; the point is to get everyone off of this discussion.

So YOU, someone who hasn't been around long enough to know what we are talking about is telling us who had their community destroyed to basically shut up? And not only that, but we shouldn't even rebuke you? Please.
Sorry, but the discussion is about something you know NOTHING about, so why don't you back off?
-mikee J, tried of the "I am better than you 'cuz I have no idea what I am talking about" attitude.
I will not waste everyone's time by explaining how long I've been with the board, my superior intelligence, or anything else. But this is ridiculous. There are certain members here who abuse the privilege of posting messages. But angry replies aren't effective. A flame war requires at least two people. Blaming the newbies, or all the 'egocentric pre-teens' doesn't work either. This is not a place to rant and rave, spam, or make obscene remarks. The moderators are doing there job by removing what they think is necessary. A sign of a 'good' board is one that isn't clutterred with messages regarding the language of other messages. Keep in mind there are children here, who want to learn about a good computer game. That is ideally the only content this board should contain.

Mikee, if you do not like these boards, you are perfectly welcome to stop posting here; none of your hit and run insults benefit anyone, and they certainly aren't a catalyst for change.
I believe that the Chronicles, Newswire, Web Links, and Add-On Files pages are significantly better than what was on the old Escape-Velocity.com site in terms of content, presentation, and maintainability. I think that's a fair consensus, too, given how many people are contributing stories to the Chronicles, how easily they are released by the admins, how much they have been read, commented on, etc.
The same holds true for the Newswire, and more significantly, for the Add-On Files -- thousands of people have found, rated, downloaded, and enjoyed the plugins presented there -- and admins can release files much more easily than under the old system.
The site has changed, but claiming that there have been no changes for the better is really just burrying your head in the sand; perhaps when you attempt your web site project you will realize the magnitude of what has been accomplished here.

I havn't been on the board for very long,so I don't know how it was before, but my opinion is that when I came on here, kinda mucked it p.Sorry.Now I'm back to rightous ways, and people like Soviet Mikee still have a go at me.What have I ever done to you?I may have flamed a little, but if I apolagise to the whole board, activate a truce and send only creative post, then why should I get blame for people like CHMD? :frown:

Many of us who remember the old boards think so too. The site looks good, the Bullitin Board is great to have (it's the people who make the community after all), and all the auxilliary sections are very practical. Good job, Ambrosia.

**(/quote)Hit and run? All I was doing was reinforcing some of the opinions people have of these boards. I wasn't going, "We all need to email andrew 1000 times each until we get the old board script back". I was stating what I didn't like about these boards. Heck, I'll admit, UBB has some pretty cool stuff. In fact, it can be very useful in low-traffic enviroments. However, the bad far outweigh any good.

When the heck did I say there wasn't any improvements? Have I ever said, "Everything about this site sucks, there have been no improvements and UBB is totally worthless".
There are alot of things about this site that are good and bad. It is my opinion, as well as many others, that the old site was better than the current site. Some people like Mac OS, some like Windows and there are those that prefer Linux. None of these OSs are perfect, and each have their own advantages. But he who switches over and believes his new OS is better in every way than his old OS... is a fool.
Sorry, the old web site was quite a bit worse in every regard -- bad links, outdated files, scattered organization, difficult to admin, rarely updated, no formal newswire/chronicles, very inflexible plugin listings, and on...
What you are doing is leading a futile one-man crusade. Your hit-and-run comments ("This web board SUCKS!!") are both juvenile and useless; try doing something productive.

Hey, I was just saying the boards weren't BAD.... I just thought they "sucked". What crusade would this be? All I did was just have a discussion. I didn't start a new topic. In fact, I don't think I have EVER started a new topic stating, "These boards suck". I don't do that, I was only participating and stating my opinion within a topic that related to that. Show sue me =p
As for productive, that's what he are hoping to do on Blazer's board, so nah!
