Fledgling Plugin designer

I have an iMac and a Beige G3 and I cannot develop ship or weapon sprites of my own all I have to draw with is Kid Pix and Power Point =0(. So If anyone knows any good shareware or buyware art programs where I can develop some ship and weapon sprites of my own I would appreciate it greatly if you could inform me of them.

Graphic Converter. Weapons only. Don't try to make ships. It won't work

Also Photoshop (my personal favorite), or ColorIt, which some people here seem to use. For ships, you need a 3D modeling app.
