ResEdit or EvEdit?

Which is better? I am a beginner, so which should i use? Which has more features, is easier to use, etc.

------------------

resedit is oldschool resource editing. you can hack the finder like I did (remove annoying menu items, assign new ones, new keys, etc.) the EV/EVO templates have issues with resedit, too.

ev edit is known to cause bad things to happen with the systems and objects so i've heard.

i suggest resourcer. i got the templates for that. i think it's hypercard, but it's definately powerful.

the bottom line: resedit for sprites, resourcer for systems and objects, ev edit or resourcer for everything else. ev edit is the easiest to use in a way, but it has issues.

It doesn't matter what you use -- you still need to run it through DynaSys's Plug Checker every couple of days in development.

Back up frequently. EV-Edit can mangle plug-ins, but so can Res-Edit.

I use Schmelta for Missions, Pontus's map tool for stellars, a few of Pontus's other tools for other things, and EV-edit if I'm lazy.

Resourcerer's EV templates are very inconvenient to use, as is the program itself. I recommend:

For sprites: Resedit
For missions: Schmelta V
For the map: EVO Dev Map
For everything else: Resedit

Does Schmelta work for Override? I tried it and it would not work. I ported the plug by changing the ID with Resedit but it then said the numbers were too high.

You'll need to place EVO's data file in Schmelta V's folder, instead of EV's data file... or something like that...

Thanks a lot for all of the replies :). Umm.. I tried to use resedit and i dont know what the hell is going on in there.
Its too confusing. I like the way EvEdit works. its easy. what about the other programs? are they easy to use? where can i get them?

You ought to try my templates for Resorcerer -- they really beat the pants off the originals. Get 'em at (url="http://"http://lightningbolt.pair.com/products/evo-templates/index.html")http://lightningbolt...ates/index.html(/url) .
