Well, I've heard "rumors of rumors" about it, but there're 7 people currently working on a Networked version of EV(/O?). The webpage should be available soon (it's there, but not publicly accessable yet). That's all I can say at this point.

A networkable version would be a large step in the right direction since I have always felt that is one thing the game has been lacking because one person can say "my fully loaded Confed cruiser can beat down on your alien cruiser" and the other can say "my alien cruiser can beat you down any day". However, neither of them can prove it.
Also, I believe a new EV is due. Possibly bridging the gap between the two games (they are about a century apart according to the starting dates, with EVO coming first). Possibly alien wars, and explaining why the maps are so different and why that stylish UE Cruiser bears a strong resemblance to the Rebel Cruiser...

Ummm, EVO is dead.
Once (and now it seem like "if") the updater for EVO (1.0.2) is done, that's it for EV and EVO.
There will never be a third engine. Matt Burch is now a computer engineer with a full life, as well as working for two software companies (and no, neither are Ambrosia). The only third version there will ever be is if it was some total replacement done by someone at Ambrosia... but that would really be like a plug, as EVO was a plug with just a little better engine.
At any rate, unless the EV/O source code is ever released and modified by someone else, there will never be a third.
Personally, I think NOVA should be given the 1.0.2 engine and be called EV3. Especially since they are asking money for it.....

In my eyes EVO is an entirely different game from the original EV. The Universes are too different.
To continue with my latest mantra: "Dont hold your breath. Wait, go ahead. Just dont expect me to pay funeral costs."

I ranted about this somewhere else on this board, but I dunno where. Basiclly, it'd take too much Bandwidth for any practical use in this day and age.

Im hoping that your right. I sent enough e-mails to kill a moose about both an EV3 and Networkable EV and all i got back was we're busy, Matt can't/won't, even when i offered what little knowledge i have to help them with plots.
