I haven't been playing long. I am in the desert in a "timed" trek across. My question is, what spells should I have gained at this point? All I have are the fireball and the "stump" spell I got from the big ogre boss. Should I have gotten any others before now?
Probably yes. There are two levels that you've passed through that have multiple exits, and each exit puts a different new path on your world map. You've obviously found one exit in each of those levels to get where you are. But you'll have to find the other exits to get the spells you missed.
If you want a hint at which levels have another way out, go to the (url="http://"http://employees.3gi.com/~ereid/ferazel")Ferazel's Wand Player's Guide(/url) and check out Paths to Levels for the Full Version. Look at the places that show up on your world map and see which of the places have more than one path out.

You should have received the statue spell in Western Reaches and the Boomerang spell in Escape from Greenland. There's also a spell in Iceconoclasm...but you may not have explored that level yet.
The explanation of why you missed them is probably one of two possibilities: You didn't know there was another exit out of Central Caverns and Escape from Greenland, or you found empty pedastals where there should have been a spell. The former is easy to correct, just go back to those levels and look for the other exit. If it's the latter, you have a bug that others have run into and you may have to send your game to Ben to get those spells.
