Poll: Strict Play Poll (24 member(s) have cast votes) Did you ever play strict play? Yes, always. (1 votes [4.17%]) Percentage of vote: 4.17% Sometimes (11 votes [45.83%]) Percentage of vote: 45.83% No, never. (12 votes [50.00%]) Percentage of vote: 50.00%
I tried strict play once, got fried by pirates very early on, and decided not to play on strict play anymore.
I've never made significant progress with a strict play pilot. I just don't find it rewarding, it's difficult and frustrating.
I believe it is ridiculous with strict play because I always get killed by pirates after I finish one mission... I don't know why.
Because of the long warm-up time before you can jump out of a system, and also because most ships can't stand against a missile barrage, strict play is much more dangerous in EVC (and, to a lesser extent, EVO) than it is in EVN. It's entirely possible to get into unwinnable situations simply through dint of being unlucky in a vaguely dangerous system.
I usually don't. I did once and got pwn'd by a pirate. I've been meaning to start another with that. Escape Pods would actually be useful then, and the game would become much harder.
Haven't yet. Why would I put myself through such pain and anquish?
I don't. I play games to have fun, and being forced to restart isn't fun. Yes, its more like real life, but I don't think that games should always reflect real life (that's why we play games, after all).
I usually dont play strict play, but i might soon (im getting bored with non-strict). There are some other advantages to the player other than not having to have an escape pod when not playing strict.

I just wish i could fit an escape pod to the vell-os ships.
Guess What, Folks!
Yay? Yay! Yay for the Mazca/mrxak hybrid!
I adopt strict play when I feel I've perfected a ship design. Otherwise, no.
Unless I make a hacked ship, never. I like exploring more than trying to desperately survive.
Heh, thanks for trying to revive the board...
I never really tried strict play; I guess you could always get an escape pod, but really I figured I would just back up my pilot anyway, taking away the whole point of strict play.
Strict play in EVGE would've been interesting... it was scary enough having to escape those packs of aliens roaming the galaxy even without strict play on.

Yeah, the speed you can die in EVGE makes it less than sensible to go for strict play, i think. From the crazy Alien Marauder / Alien Command Ship fleets that occasionally show up, to the simple Banshee/Firebird Raider random pirates that hit far harder than they deserve to, hehe.
I played with strict play off when I was younger, but giving strict a chance a few years ago completely got me hooked on EV again. Playing with it on is so much more interesting, fun and realistic, I can't believe anyone doesn't check that little box. Besides, it's how "Escape Velocity was meant to be played," right?
I think I like exploring too much.
