Ok, I am right before going to High Garendall for the Symbol and the Tome of Elixers, and I can also go to Reef Island. Both of these areas seem to be higher level than I can comfortably venture into, despite having the best armor in the game (as far as I know, but judging by pics of AAC's character, etc...). I am level 20-something, but only have 144hp because I didn't discover the blue mushroom until very recently.
Anyway, either of these places, I get my butt kicked with regularity. I try to block, and that works decently for some enemies, but when I get two of an enemy that can do 30-40+ damage if I'm not blocking, I'm utterly screwed.
Can you usually get more than one hit in before having to block again? I usually can not, or else I get caught with my guard down. It's worse with my Battle Axe Misery - sometimes I can't even get one swing in without the enemy catching me with my guard down. At least with my EBoD I can shoot for sure inbetween attacks since it fires so much faster.
So I have the best armor, my hit points aren't going to go up significantly because I'm such a high level already, I think I'm using the right attack/defense strategy with blocking as much as I can, and I'm still dying in every place that I seem to be able to go next. I haven't even bothered trying the Sea Giants...
My only possibly idea of what could improve my character is boosting my Dex score a lot so that I'll dodge more easily, and hit more easily with my axe so I can use that instead of my bow. But I don't have the time to sit and kill the same creatures over and over again for gold, just to buy elixers. So unless someone has an idea of what I can do, I'm going to end up just using Cheat II and getting a million gold to buy elixers with or something.
I hate to cheat, since I've enjoyed this game very very much up until now just going through it normally, but I'd rather cheat and see the rest of the game than remain frustrated or waste hours and hours of my life gold-hunting.
So please, does anyone have any advice as to what I can do for my character? Is the rest of the high-level game like that, where if you don't block your character dies in 3-4 hits? How do you deal with mobs, or even 2 enemies at once?
Thanks very very much in advance!

I agree.. Here's my characters stats so maybe this will help.. HP: 147 Lvl: 22 The best armor possible and a ring of unicorn.. Battle Axe of Misery and Lilith shield or EBoD
STATS with battle axe and ring Str: 16 Dex: 22 Vit: 23 Speed: 10 Luck: 18 Marksmanship: 14
I have the hat and the lamp but I only use them when fighting mind hunters or undead respectively.
I keep on wondering what I'm missing.. I can't find an area outside of reef Island or south (sea giants) or high garendall. I only have the two quests left, symbol and tome of elixirs.
I think I might be able to get through the reef by sneaking around and stocking up on potions.. maybe.. (I've seen the cave). But I'm really worried about caving with this much risk.. like I'm not ready yet.
Hence the stats.. do I need to work on something?

Can you tell me where the mushroom is?

There's a message from a while ago.. I think it's called Mushroom.. It includes a map and everything.
The post with directions was called "The Magic Shroom".
There's no need to try to kill everything you come across! Just run past them.

Yeah, except that most of the enemies later are fast, and will keep up with you (especially if you're exploring a new area), and so you'll eventually be mobbed and killed for sure. And if you're trying to explore caves with narrow passages and dead-ends, forget it. It's a good idea, but not very useful for going through the rest of the game.
Thanks for actually posting something, though. Apparently nobody else has any advice to give (and this is the second topic I've posted of this general nature)...

I don't have anything really useful to add, except to say that for whatever reason, I didn't really have this problem. I was about the same as your level when I went to High Garendall the first time (I believe I was 131 stamina and level 21, but I could be misremembering). Sure, I got killed a lot, reloaded, etc, but all I really had to do was keep guzzling potions. I must have kept at least 10 filters of healing on me at all times, and probably at least 30 healing potions, and I just kept guzzling away. Whenever I got much below, say, 80 stamina, click 'i' and gulp, then go back to slashing away. And I didn't even try to use blocking all that much, just x-x-x-x-x etc.
Finding the blue mushroom early really does help, though. My second time through now, I'm level 22 and already 204 stamina, so that's a huge bonus, and I can survive a lot more without potions.
Also, as regards running away, there are places down south where you have to run, there's absolutely no way around it unless you're AAC or someone else with godlike stats. Just run past the ones you know would kill you, and save your fights for the others. It's certainly do-able -- I managed without any serious problems, and I'm not by any means a hard-core gamer or experienced in this kind of thing.
I don't have godlike stats, and I'm not AAC, but the only things I've encountered that can kill me are the sea giants.
Get a ring of speed +2. And when you enter a hostile, unexplored map, save(if you can). Run around, exploring and getting an idea of whats on the new map. If you've explored a lot without hurt, save with whatever progress you've made.

Regarding the Liliths (and other primarily melee enemies) I've found blocking to be very effective. I hold down the z-key, wait for the sound of the attack bouncing off the shield, and then click the mouse to attack. Since the z-key is still held, I go back into block immediately, and melee enemies can hardly ever touch you. On slower enemies, like the cyclops, you can sometimes get in two attacks between their blows.
Awareness is also a very handy skill to keep you out of situations where you're facing two or more enemies... check your map frequently and approach a line of opponents slowly from one side, so that you only face one at a time.
This strategy will help you with just about every melee opponent in the game, excluding the sea giants...
Good luck. I think you'll enjoy finishing the game more if you can avoid using the cheats.

You can't get to the blue mushroom without registering. See "The Blue Shroom" (or something like that title) thread for directions on getting it.
As far as your signature goes, can't you make each line longer? I believe the 4-line limit is what's cutting you off, but if you eliminate those hard line breaks, you should be okay.
