Review some of your favorite or hated plug-in's here!!!

I want to review the plug-ins on:
1.It's plot (the story)
2.It's playabilty (how long the plug lasts)
3.It's grapitcs (how good looking the ships are, the planet pic's)

Give them a mark out of 10. Then give a overall mark out of 10.
Thanks

The 3 things I hate are:
1.Bad haircuts
2.Playing Pool
and
3.BUGS!!!!!

I have tried most of the plug-ins avaible and without a doubt the best one (IMHO) is Clavius and Beyond. This plug-in I thought was the hardest. With that in mind here is my review...
Plot = 10 great plot tons of hard missions
Playability = 9.5 it is not the largest plug-in but it takes awhile to beat
Graphics = 8.5 add ships and weapons but they could use better explosions. New stations too, avaible in v3.33

Overall = 10 besides the plot it has the Neutronic Kestrel, What more can you ask for?

------------------

The Omega Faction 1.0

Plot 9/10

Playability 8/10

Graphics 10/10

This is my favorite plug. The ships look soooo awesome!!!

"Impossible is a word Humans use far too often." -Seven of Nine

At the risk of being repetitive I have to say this once more: The Eye of Orion
Plotline 20/10 🙂

Playability 7/10 (If you are really into it it finishes fairly quick)

Graphics 8/10 (Good, but nothing mind-blowing)

I'm resurrecting this thread.

As you can see by my Registration date, I've been around for awhile. But I have only recently begun trying Plugs. (I just kept creating different Pilots and trying to stick to some "theme" for each one ... Pirate / Merchant / UGE-Yes / UGE-No / Conquering Planets / Not Conquering Planets / etc.. (I started a Confed pilot once, but couldn't stomach it after two missions. I deleted that trashy pilot. I'm just not curious enough about the plot / missions to hold my nose and side with them....)

Nice use of the map. Fun new ships. Cool "Gladiator" system to hone your battle skills.

Cool new planet graphics ... also the cooler explosion/flash when you kill a ship. Plot suffers by yo-yo-ing back and forth between Spica and the new systems. (Tedious.) Since the Rebs and Confeds are supposed to be unified on this Plug, it would make more sense to me if the mission strings involved some of the other standard systems too.
Battles are NOT EASY!!!

And how do we know which one's are his? Most of the Plug descriptions do not tell the author.

Sorry, but no matter how much you enjoy the plots of Tim Isles' plugins, you cannot say they have excellent graphics.

In order by release date, to the best of my knowledge:

Empire: War Without End
Empire 2: Dark Horizons
Empire 3: Endgame
Empire of Crime
Heart of Darkness
Realm of Prey
Brotherhood of the Kestrel
Next Project: Fearful Symmetry (will use Nova engine)

They're better than the original graphics, for the most part.

------------------

Maybe, but at least in BotK they were just random graphics gathered from random places.

The fact that all of the ships had a totally different style was a bit irritating.

Elite Frontiers, only scenario I've copied into actual EV data files from the plug-ins to free up memory and (in my imagination) speed.

Story: 7/10
It's a replica of the game it tries to emulate (Elite 2) and nothing spectacular, but it works very well since there's so much to do.

Graphics: 7/10
Primitive models with few polygons and no textures, but excellent contrasts. No disturbing grainyness here. It's clean. Best presentation in any plug yet IMHO.

Gameplay 9/10
Challenging start, lot's of missions to do for several companies and the two main governments. Huge galaxy that only gets bigger and bigger. Beam weapons rule this game.

Overall 8/10 Overall one of the best mods out there.

Well as most of the EV community has moved to Nova or moved on altogether, it has become almost impossible to find new graphics for EV plugs. Shade did most of the graphics for Tim's plug Realm of Prey and was (I think) going to do all new ones for this plug as well but dissapeared after only finishing a few ships (the K'rali ships and a few others). Tim has no way to do graphics on his own and had to pull together whatever he could find to make up the plug. I was kind of annoyed to see so many ship reuses in BOTK but I understand the difficulties in finding ships now. Also the different styles do fit with the idea of very different pirate factions, each with their own tactics.

Creator of the upcoming (url="http://"http://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/vega")Vega(/url) plugin.

My favorite one was E3: Endgame.
Graphics: 9
Storyline: 8 ( had good story lines that were there, but missing some for certian govs )
Playability: 10 ( tons of ships, and a huge galaxy )
Overall: 9

The onse I didn't like were Alien Empire and Terran Rebellion.
Graphics: 2 ( very few new graphics )
Storyline: 3 ( a small one if new )
Playability: 2 ( tiny galaxy )
Overall: 2.5

Final Battle is one of the worst I've ever played- although I liked the story and the graphics were okay, it was full of bugs.

Story- 8/10

Gameplay-3/10 (It's riddled with bugs!)

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, seven for the dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One Ring for the Dark Lord on his dark throne in the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
J.R.R. Tolkien

Galactic Scourge

Plot: 9 (Witty and original, but a thesaurus wouldn't have hurt the designers)
Playability: 10 (Many ways to play)
Graphics: 10 (The best graphics I've seen in an original EV plug)

Overall: 10

Tim's plugs in general

Plot: 8 (Interesting over-arching themes, but story becomes very predictable after a while)
Playability: 10 (Big and challenging)
Graphics: 9 (I know they've all been cobbled together from various free sources, but no one could pull this off better than Tim; you won't notice the inconsistencies after a while)

Overall: 9

Thanks ghostdog for the kind words about Elite Frontiers!

Having played through the standard EV, it became very clear that the game had big similarities with Elite and Frontier Elite. As these were favourites of mine the next step seem natural.

It took me five months to put EF together and was an interesting project. I even used an Amiga to do the rendering and had Frontier Elite up as a reference when building EF.

I played through it again recently and was still pretty pleased with it.

Cheers!

Some plug I can't remember the name of that came with Ambrosia CD 1:

Graphics: N/A (never saw em')
