should i go for a mass driver(gatling gun) or a neutron blaster?

Neither, they are both a waste of space. However, of the two the mass driver is more interesting.

Torpedoes are usually a good bet, but it depends on what ship you're flying and how much space you have left. We can't give you the precise answers you always seem to demand if you don't give us any information.

i have a rebel cruiser with 40+ weapons space, planet conquering and piracy are what i use my ship for
If you already have a torpedo or missile launcher, then I'd say just buy more ammo for it.
If you're into planet conquering stock up on missiles to down those pesky fighters. Torpedoes are a waste of space because fighters just outrun them. The same goes for the neutron blaster and mass driver, their shots are just too slow, especially against Mantas.

Missiles are probably the best, bombs are also good. Lay a bunch of mines around the planet and watch teh fireworks. Or if you are being chased just drop a few.
