I just got the mission "Locate aliens" and searched around the trugati asteroid belt, no sign of aliens or anything like that. Am I doing something wrong? I am using EMPIRE 2.0. Any help would be appreciated.

For the Rebellion you will find it in the Farazon system. For the Confederation you will find it in the Tryvin system. I don't think that Empire changes that. It shouldn't.
Use close range secondaries (Javelins, lotsa lasers, whatevers in the plug) and get right behind him. Blow his alien body to pulp. Good luck.

I started trying Empire 1 some time ago. It has a Disruptor Beam, a kind of Fusion Beam that drains your fuel too fast to be really useful. It has a Corvette Bay. It has Guided Heavy Rockets So you can be assured that the plug has a lot beyond stock EV weapons, if even the first version has a lots of weapons.
