Several folks from this forum had asked that I do a modified kestrel for some of their projects. So I put a little something together last night for kicks:
You can download it (url="http://"http://dreamwave.evula.net/kestrel/Kestrel.sit")here(/url)
I might do some other Atinoda ships when I get the time... I've got ideas for an Osprey and Shrike.

Ya, that's really sweet. What do you do your modeling in? (and don't answer 'the nude')

Hmmm, I think I prefer Matt Dailey's version from (url="http://"http://www.grand-novice.com")Grand-Novice's(/url) (url="http://"http://www.grand-novice.com/EVES-site/free_stuff.html")free stuff(/url). I think it's the smoother look I prefer, makes it look cooler.

No argument there. Matt's got some fine work at Grand Novice. I just don't like many of his EV models simply because of their lack of defined textures.
Heh, I also just realized he had an Atinoda ship called the Osprey... I wasn't aware. I guess he also decided to continue the bird name theme.
Just out of curiosity, which sprite is bigger, the Osprey or the Kestrel? You can't really tell from the pics you've posted.

They're the exact same size (128x128). Only real difference is additional cargo / weapons space, extra engines, wider / thicker hull and "V" tail design.
Shrike:

The modded Kestrel is cool. Its much larger than the original Kestrel, almost as large as the one in Nova. It has also a lot of details, where the original is (simplifiedly) just wings and a neck.

Yes, one of my nit-picks in all the EV games is the scale of the ships... all of the warships should be far larger, most of the fighters; smaller. All of my ships tend to clearly define the difference in size between warships and smaller craft... it brings on a whole new sense of realism and a "do I really wanna mess with this guy" mindset.
Regarding the Atinoda ships, I'm also working on versions with metallic surfacing to match the rest of my updated (mainly Override) mods. The current versions were made to blend in well with the rest of the stock EV ships.

I have always rationalized that the screen size of the ship represents the "apparent cross section for the weapons targeting computer." Fighters are smaller but have less sophisticated electronic counter-measures than warships so they appear larger. If they were to scale the Patrolship would be a speck and very hard to fly, or the cruiser would fill the screen and be too easy to hit.

Well everyone knows that if the ships were to exact scale, sprite sizes would get rediculous. I just simply like to show a defined difference between fighters and warships to give a better impression of their potency, power and (of course) size.
I seem to remember the Confederation frigate being 48x48... that's just rediculous. In my book, that very ship should be closer to 128x128.

Nice Kestrel. I'd love to fly around in that. Where can I get Infini-D?
------------------ Destroyer E is the name of my ship and the name has a good meaning.

It's an expensive commercial product, and I don't believe they even sell it any more. If that is in fact the case, then the only way you can get it is to buy it from someone who already has it but no longer wants it.

Hot piss!
Cool stuff, by far, Skyblade. And by the way, if the Frigate is 48x48, what's the Rapier? I don't think it's much smaller, if at all. I know exactly what you mean.

I don't usually post here, but I thought you might find (url="http://"http://www.metacreations.com/products/carrara/")this(/url) helpful. Carrara is made by Infini-D's original creators, and it looks pretty cool; I am looking in to trying it out. The price is apparently around $400 or so.
(edit)(url="http://"http://www.eovia.com/home.jsp")Here(/url) is another link to Carrara info; I think this one is more up to date and stuff.
You can also get the free version of Strata 3D; I believe you can download it from Ewan's Lair. I use Strata for all the stuff I do. It has some features disabled (at least in the version I have), such as animation capabilities and some modeling tools.
