Perhaps a mission in a plugin you are running led to the destruction of Earth. I thought either Galactic Scourge or Final Battle had that in it.

Galactic Scourge, definietely. Although I think you have to finish a storyline or something, I am not sure. I am confused because I am trying to do the same thing.

Here are the directions again:
1. Begin the Diphidia Missions (you don't actually have to complete them). 2. Go to a non-Astex bar to get "Free Slaves" (20% chance, must have Dangerous rating) 3. Go to the bar in any dominated planet to get "Replicon Wind" (10% chance) 4. Go to the bar in a Confed dominated planet to get "Replicon Storm" (10% chance) 5. Go to the bar in a Rebel dominated planet to get "Replicon Tempest" (10% chance)
Along the way you can buy an Exterminator.
You can also go to the bar in a non-aligned dominated planet to get "Rock Invasion" (100% chance) after step 5, but this is a side branch.
After this is over, go to New Earth and do missions to improve you legal status until you get the final mission of the game (30% chance), "Save the Universe."

It is very low chance, only 10%. Hence, its extremely difficult to get it. I remember jumping in and out several times to get a mission that, oddly, had 38% chance. Just be patient and jump in and out several times. Faster ways include accepting as many Mission BBS missions as you can, then aborting it, and reloading the pilot file.

Yes, but I think you mean go to the mission computer and accept a delivery or cargo mission. Abort it (this resets the missions offered on the planet), then go to the bar. Repeat until you get what you want. Although the mission does mean that billions of more lives will be lost.
Also, don't forget that you must have dominated that planet (or system, I forget).

Kind of. I forgot that we modified it from an earlier version where you had to do both "Replicon Storm" and "Replicon Tempest" to the current version where you need to do only one. Both missions destroy most of the Confederation. This should allow you to view the remains of the Sol system as shown in the image in question.
I apologize for the error.
Now get yourself to New Earth and do "Deliver Emergency Supplies" until you are offered "Save the Universe" (you may want to explore Protenoid space, there are a few obtuse clues to the story there).
Once that is done, you have completed Galactic Scourge.

Oh, I think you can only get the last mission if completed "Recover Meteorite" which is found in any bar at the 25% level. You may have done it a while ago but forgot. The text was somewhat distinctive :), you may remember the following:
