What am I missing?

Hi, I have the feeling I missed something somewhere.

I have the following quests:

Symbol of Garendall
In the past of thievery - I already have awareness and pathfinding, should I still go to Perugo forest?
Learning tree search

I have been all over the map but cant really find anything usefull left to do.
I got a big blue mushroom, 2 dragons teeth, heaps of shells (are they needed somewhere?)
I found the old elf in the cave on the plains of wind but he wont talk to me.

What am I missing here?

Any hints apprieciated, thanks!

I'm not as far but of what I have read you should search the tree for elf or a variation plus any quests you have. Then go talk to the elf and he will give you a couple quests. From there I do not know.

Done that, but he still wont talk to me...

SPOILER ALERT

The old elf gives you a quest to look up some stuff in the learning tree and ask a black smith about the shield used in the ritual of the sacrifice(if you already have the blue and black dragon teeth). Look up the info in the tree, then ask a smith about the shield, I asked the smith in Frantrima. The smith will tell you a story about some warior who came to the town almost dead, and had seen the shield. When he tells you the story a few words will appear with the (?) after them, go and look them up to find out how to continue the quest.

the elf just wont talk to me.

The blacksmith has nothing to say to me because I dont have the quest to talk to a blacksmith, I can only buy stuff (lots of stufff gold coming out of my ears 12.000 or so).

So any help on getting the elf to talk to me is welcome.
