I have created an EV guide which tells you my way of taking over a planet in EV.
You can download it from this page: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/addons.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS.../ev/addons.html(/url)
------------------
Firstly, make it into a webpage, I can't usually be arsed to download a 40K document. Secondly, nobody need's to be told how to take over a planet in a powerful cheat ship. Look at the survival guide for a bit of info. Most Confed and Rebel planets are terribly weak, with only about 20 fighters. If you've never taken over a Confed planet you're either targetting Sol, Ruby or Alpha Centauri, or you suck at planet domination and you really shouldn't be writing a tutorial about it.
Apart from that, it looks nice :).

It dosnt just tell you to get a good ship. It tell you how to speng your money right...and how to not get damaged when in a battle with a planet.
Whats the point in making a web page about a silly little 40k document???

If it's that small, it makes more sense to make it into a web page. People like to download bigger files, or files that contain more than one file. If it's a small 40K document, making it a web page let's people see it easily without taking the extra time to download it.

But a 40k download isnt going to take a few seconds is it. Anyway I have broadband so it dosnt matter to me. I can download files over 20MB for all I care!

It may only take a few seconds, but it's easier to just view it as a web page if it's that small, and make it a little more interesting, than have to go through with downloading, decrompressing, and then opening it up in another document, not to mention it's just a waste of space, no matter how miniscule. If it's a simple guide like that, just make it into a web page, and you can make it more interesting by adding more stuff to that webpage. Not only that, you can upload the guide whenever you want to change it instead of submitting it to the addons page every time you add something.
The web page just makes more sense, if you ask me.
But you must remeber how hard it is to make it a web page:
1. I must create it in HTML 2. I must check it for spelling 3. I must mess about uploading it on the net 4. I must then check if its uploaded right 5. The web page then must be maintained every now and then
It too much hassle! END OF STORY
Anyway. Other poeple have made smaller guides for EV that were made the same way as the one I made!

1. You said in another topic that you use Dreamweaver. That means you don't create it in HTML. 2. Since when have you run your stuff through a spell checker? Sorry, I know that's a bit harsh, but still, it's an honest question. Besides, you should have run it through a spell checker anyway, so this really isn't a problem for making a web version of the guide. 3. Open FTP connection, upload file. Not hard. 4. Sorry, but again, since when have you done this? I've seen two different examples of you uploading a site and not bothing to see if it works correctly (or maybe you do, but you just don't make the corrections). 5. Websites that contain static content (such as this guide) don't need to be maintained.
Edit: Typo.

EVula said it. I made EVWeb in Mozilla and SC in BBEdit. It doesn't take long and downloading it may not be bothersome to you but it annoys everyone who uses it.

Yeah but yo!?!?, Dreamweaver writes HTML for you. I wish people would keep on bugging me about how a pro should hand-code ect... I dont wanna talk about it!
I'm NOT making my guide a web page its a guide.....END OF STORY.
If you were making it for yourself, you shouldn't have uploaded it. If you were making it for the community, perhaps you should listen to the community's opinion on the most useful layout for guides.

Correction: Dreamwaver writes bad HTML for you.

Start hand-coding your site and people will stop bugging you about it.

Finally, you actually have a reason not to. Just saying that you're not going to do something is better than making flimsy excuses about why you're not going to.
That said, I agree completely with Russell.
It would take less than 4 minutes to convert the file into html with dreamweaver, upload, and check. I mean Dreamweaver has a built in spell checker too for god sake! There is absolutely no point in having a download for a document that size. Infact an HTML document of that would take up less than 10k. You would be saving space having it as an HTML file.
Shouting at respected members of the boards because they are trying to give you helpful advice isnt smart. Calm down and listen to their suggestions. I mean if everyone has said that it would be best in HTML then wouldnt it make more sense to have it in HTML so that people might actually view it?
And learn to take cryticism more lightly Its only a webboard ewan

I'm not sure if "being a guide" is an excuse to not make it into a web page. Like Russell said, this guide is for the community, not you, so if you want the community to be happy with your work, it would be wise to do what is in the best interest of the communitywhich means, in this case, turning your guide into a web page. You have a provider, you have dreamweaver, it'll take no more than 10 minutes to make the community happy with your guide.
But I guess there's no point in convincing you...
