I note one flaw in your plan. Make sure to get speed upgrades before this, so you can dogde the Missiles and Torps! 4 Missiles and especially Torps are going to fry you alive! I know what im talking about; a not much weaker ship, Shuttle can stand 3 Missiles from Patrol Ship only with Armaplast and even then it drops to damaged armor. A single Torp is enough to disable a Argosy! So sorry, unless you get Durasteel or speed upgrades your plan is useless.

hell no, it takes 4 torps to disable an Argosy.

Heheh hardly. What you point out is exactly why the Lightinings are slightly harder...You much charge staight at them, from quite a distance away, firing in quick enough sucession to get your necessary payload off(3 For the Lightining, 5 for the Raiper). The 3 Should (if you do it correctly) disable the Lightining before he releases to missiles.
The Raiper.....well torpedoes? Against a small target come on, you can dodge them like nobodies business.
Please not NOT say my plan is flawed since I have done this, for many years, to great effect....If it is flawed for you, I guess you just can't perform it correctly and I can't help you.
Edit- The only threat torpedoes cause you is after the Raiper is disabled. They have a tendancy to swicng around and try to hit you when your are attempting to board the disabled ship. So you have to make sure they burned themselves out.
If you can do it correctly, your sheilds should never fall.

Well, I find that Raipers can easily defeat both with help from an afterburner......
I always have both torps and missiles on any ship that has capable room for them, if you know your hunting Kestrels, simply sell off the missiles and load up on torps. When you attack the Kestrel, hail the Lightenings (since you don't have missiles to deal with them) and beg for mercy. Use the afterburner untill he uses up his missile supply (don't forget, you can sustain a few missile hits in a Raiper anyways)....He won't fire torps at you. After that, just pound away at the Kestrel with torps from a distance, it doesn't get much easier really, he can't catch you.
As for the Corvette, my standard equip doesn't require any altering to take these fellas out...just use the afterburner to exaust his missile supply and take him out with your own (or torps preferably....fly away and have him charge straight at you....easy hits).

But Kestrels have considerable shields so it reguires many Torps. Argosies (which have 35 shields) reguire four to be disabled. Kestrels, which have 4x shields reguire 16. As for the Corvette, did you know a Rapier is actually not much faster than a Corvette? Rapier accel: 217 Corvette accel: 202.

The Kestrels sheilds makes hardly a difference...if he can't hit you, and your pounding away at him, he could have the sheilds of a Confed Cruiser, it makes no difference, so long as you have a sufficient of torpedoes, and the Raiper can carry that many (for the Kestrel I mean).
Yes, I'm quite sure that I knew that a Corvette and Raiper are somewhat evenly matched in terms of speed...did you read that I mentioned an afterburner a number of times? I also mentioned standard equip (Which always includes an RCS, Thrust and Engine upgrade, but how could you know this, so thats not really important). The afterburner is what makes the Corvettes a cakewalk (once they expend their missles, down to laser turrets and Javilins....You deserve to be shot if a heavy missile hits your fighter ;)).
EDIT- Besides, whats the difference if you gotta wait around for alittle bit while torp tube empties itself?.....Would you prefer to use Res-Edit and bump up their max dam? Feel free to do so if you want, I wouldn't.

A defender can kill a kestrel. ANyway, that is off topic. I would say, to make the most money, I just fight pirate kestrels.
